16.01.2022 Shout-out For Shoulders Shoulders are pretty amazing. They give us the ability to be able to perform explosive, loaded and high precision activities - think, throwing a ball or performing a handstand. The shoulder's movement is mostly dependent on muscle function due to it's limited bony structures when compared with other joints in the body; as a result, the shoulder has more movement and mobility than other joints.... The shoulder's mobility is shaped by the combined influences of the following joints: - glenohumeral joint - acromioclavicular joint - sternoclavicular joint - scapulothoracic joint - cervical and thoracic spine As eloquently expressed by Dr Jeremy Lewis on his recent podcast, not only does the shoulder have more movement than any other joint in the body but it also has the ability to perform the fastest movements when compared to other joints in the body. Keep those shoulders healthy and cartwheel towards the weekend, team! If you're having any shoulder troubles, don't hesitate to give us a call or send a message. #happyhumpday #joinourteam

07.01.2022 "Even coaches need coaches" - Unknown Strength and conditioning programs for striking athletes are valuable in building up the robustness of joints and ligaments, and developing specific performance outcomes.... Striking sports such as boxing, Muay Thai, kick-boxing and many forms of karate utilise agility, plyometrics, ballistic movements and reaction time. At Rise, making sure we build these essential components off a strong base is what we're all about; lower body strength and power will certainly have a positive effect on sports-specific tasks, such as kicking. Finding the right balance between strength and conditioning training and sports specific training is crucial for athletic development. Try not to fall into the trap of overtraining the strength components and consequently neglecting your time spent training in the actual sport. @gcptraining () , " " Although having improved strength and power will add to your performance and potentially mitigate future injuries, it is essential that you are training the optimal techniques with your striking coach to ensure ideal skill acquisition. There are many great coaches on the Mid-North Coast, each specialising in their chosen fields. Pictured here is Alex from Rogue, Port Macquarie sharpening Rise-EP-Chantel's Muay Thai-style kick. Alex has a background in Wrestling (luta libre), Muay Thai, Brazilian jiu jitsu and Japanese jiu jitsu. Using his knowledge in these areas, Alex coaches his students through executing a range of skills essential for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai; from the gross motor skills down to the intrinsic movements, Alex really appreciates the finer details of combat sports. If you're looking to polish up your Muay Thai skills or interested in acquiring a NEW skill, living in Port Macquarie and not sure where to start - look no further than our friends at Rogue! @roguemma
