25.01.2022 A BIG thank you to the Mother Maria of Paris Greek Orthodox Mission for supporting the RCC Youth Outreach program!

25.01.2022 We hope everyone has a wonderful week, no matter what gets thrown your way!

25.01.2022 The NSW Government are strongly recommending that face masks are worn in situations that make it hard to social distance, such as on public transport and in shopping centres, if you are able to. Please follow the below link if you would like more information. Stay safe and well!

25.01.2022 Last week we had a small but lovely socially distanced morning tea at the community garden, with 18 gardeners attending. We wanted to say thank you to our lovely gardeners who have been working with us to keep the garden open in these uncertain times; and to celebrate our garden tidy up funded by the City of Canterbury Bankstown. At the morning tea, old friends met again and were treated to refreshments and tea. We talked and laughed, and shared stories and information, happy to be out in the sunshine. Canterbury Bankstown

22.01.2022 Here at the Riverwood Community Centre, we are committed to providing support to anybody in the community who needs it. Which is why we have been working hard to continually adapt our services throughout the pandemic. The RCC Long Day Care has remained open to provide a safe space for children to have fun and offer the support that families need. We know that COIVD19 has been a challenging time for everybody, so we were grateful to be able to talk to some of the Long Day Care... families about how they have been impacted and how RCC has been able to help them. We would like to thank everybody who has worked hard to make sure that the RCC Long Day Care remains a safe and supportive centre and all of the lovely community members who make it feel like family. If the Long Day Care is something that you and your family would love to be a part of, please call us on 9533 0100.

22.01.2022 It is my pleasure to announce $10,000 of funding for Riverwood Community Centre for their We Stand Together Project. The funding, from the Multicultural Celebra...ting Diversity Project grants, will be used to run 5 workshops for recent arrivals and Aboriginal people to build awareness and pride about how we live, important changes in our society, and services available. 18.01.2022 It doesnt matter if youre big or little - its always important to ask, R U OK?

17.01.2022 Over the last few months, there have been times where school has looked a little different for many children and their families throughout NSW because of COVID. However, so many families in our community have continued to work and so we were happy to be able to keep our Out of School Hours programs running, including School Holiday Vacation Care where we have had a blast coming up with new incursion ideas! Like our Long Day Care families, we were so thankful that some of our OOSH families were able to take some time to talk to us about how they have been impacted by COVID and how the RCC OOSH has been able to help them. If you have any questions about the RCC before school, after school or vacation care programs please give up a call on 9533 0100. We would love to see you during the next school holidays!

17.01.2022 The Riverwood Community Centre Long Day Care currently has places available for children up to the age of five. 16.01.2022 Although regulations and best practice continues to evolve, its important to celebrate the small things. Last week a small group of community members who participate in the RCC Aged Care services were able to get together for some socially distanced games and a catch-up, all had a great time!

16.01.2022 Thank you for helping to make providing healthy meals as part of the Youth Outreach program possible!

15.01.2022 Our Winter 2020 newsletter is here! It captures a snapshot of what we have been able to do and the services that we have provided throughout the pandemic, which we know has been a challenging time for everyone. Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to ensure that we could continue to support the community. Check it out in the link. http://riverwoodcommunity.org.au//Winter-2020-Riverwood-Co

15.01.2022 A big thank you to the St Vincent De Paul Capacity Building Project for providing RCC with the Xtra Eyes, Sensory Tent and Escape the Noise packs. The Xtra Eyes pack provides an inclusive and comfortable space for people with low vision and can assist with reading. While the Sensory Oasis Tent provides a space for children to regulate their mood when they become overwhelmed by sensory input. And the Escape the Noise Kit is provided to community organisations as a resource to... allow people to reset in an inclusive environment and therefore engage and stay longer at events and activities. We are so excited to use these fantastic resources so that everyone has the opportunity to feel comfortable and get involved. For more information on these packs please visit our website or email [email protected]

07.01.2022 The RCC Community Gardeners have been making the most of the sunshine! Thanks to the staff from the Sutherland Council for coming and having a look at the awesome work that has been happening.

05.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to keep the Riverwood Community Centre running throughout 2020, including the Long Day Care. And to all of the families and community members who make it such as special place!

05.01.2022 The Long Day Care kids have been finding their zen with yoga this week. What have you been doing to bring some joy and calm into your day?

05.01.2022 As we continue to navigate COVID19 and the impact that it continues to have on everyone in the community, it has been vital to reach out and connect with real people in our community, in order to gain a better understanding of how people have been impacted and how RCC services have been able to offer support. In this last instalment of this first series, we were grateful to talk to some wonderful community members who use a variety of services within the RCC Aged Care suppor...t. From our conversations two things stood out, the first being how positive and welcoming the people in our community are. The second was how isolating this time has been for many elderly people. So, we encourage you to reach out and check in on friends, neighbours and family. Even if its just a phone call to say hello. If there is anything the Riverwood Community Centre can do for you, please give us a call on 9533 0100.

05.01.2022 The Riverwood Community Garden has had a facelift! Communal plots went from an overgrown jungle to beautifully mulched beds of potential thanks to funding from City of Canterbury Bankstown and the hard work of our local garden contractor Sukhwinder Singh. Youll see staff down there a couple of times a week, weeding and keeping it all rubbish free!

04.01.2022 The first employability skills program for women with children is running next Thursday, the 22nd of October at the Punchbowl Community Centre. We would love for you to get involved but bookings are essential, so please call us on 9533 0100 if you are interested. For more information visit our website: http://riverwoodcommunity.org.au/employability-skills-prog/

04.01.2022 As our preschoolers are busy preparing for school, we are implementing our school readiness program. As part of this we embed letter recognition, early literacy and numeracy into our play based program. As part of our curriculum, we understand children learn through play and are coming along in leaps and bounds in these very important skills. The children are also learning social skills such as taking turns in small group activities which all increases their language and communication skills. Look at the concentration on their faces!

03.01.2022 At the Riverwood Community Centre, the safety of all children is our number one priority. So, this week, as part of National Child Protection Week, the long day care educators have been encouraging the children to think about the people they trust and who make them feel safe and loved. One of the activities around this was for children to use their hand to think about five people who are in their safety network.

02.01.2022 Please be aware and stay safe

02.01.2022 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone, making it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, to be willing to support those around us. R U OK?Day acts as a reminder to ask, Are you Ok? if someone in your life is struggling. However, its important to remember that theres more to say after R U OK which is this years message. If someone says theyre not OK, make time to listen, encourage action and check in. You dont need to be a...n expert to keep the conversation going, and by knowing what to say and making someone feel supported you can make a positive difference in someones life. So today, and every day, we encourage you to check in on your friends, family, neighbours and colleagues. Here at the Riverwood Community Centre we are here to provide any support that we can, so please call us on 9533 0100 if you or someone who know is struggling. We are here to help. If you would like more information about RUOK?Day and to access their resources around what to say when someone says theyre not ok, please visit: https://www.ruok.org.au/join-r-u-ok-day

02.01.2022 National Child Protection Week has come around again, with this years theme being putting children first. Putting children first means prioritising the safety and wellbeing of children. To grow up well children need to feel safe and loved, have a chance to play and explore, have a say in decisions that affect them, and access to essential things like food, shelter and healthcare. Here at RCC this is central to everything that we do, and we believe that its important for ...anyone and everyone who works with children to hear, this week and every week. The colour green has become the symbol for this nationwide week and this afternoon, the children at the RCC OOSHC used green shirts and covered them with messages of hope, reminders to smile and words of empowerment to get involved. Children are our future, so this week is all about community awareness of supporting and caring for our kids, letting children know that they are valued and speaking up against child abuse and neglect. For more information on National Child Protection Week please visit: https://www.napcan.org.au/

02.01.2022 The members of our Community Garden have been working hard to get the garden ready for spring. Last week one of the RCC groups came down to have a look and get some sunshine.

02.01.2022 RCC staff were humbled to meet with Rawah Arja and her proud father Mohammad Arja this week following the launch of her book The F Team. Rawah is a passionate young local woman who drew inspiration from her community for the book, she wanted to give a voice to the struggles and achievements of many young people and write something that they would read and relate to. We wish her well with the book and the wonderful work she is doing for this community.... We cant wait to see Rawah back at the Centre soon, inspiring everyone in our youth program. To find her book visit: https://giramondopublishing.com/product/the-f-team/

01.01.2022 This week at the Long Day Care Centre the children are learning about and celebrating NAIDOC week. A celebration held across Australia each year observing the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The children participated in creating dot paintings on different types of natural and/or recycled materials such as barks, leaves, logs, sticks and cardboard papers. Learning about the culture of Indigenous Australians always excites the children and keeps them interested in learning about diversity and Aboriginal Australian history. Providing the children with these experiences allows to develop their understanding and empathy skills by responding to diversity with respect and becoming aware of fairness.

01.01.2022 The RCC Long Day Care has been out of this world! Weve been exploring the solar system, even building our own!
