17.01.2022 Well, this is accurate AF #Repost @gretta with @get_repost Please remember one thing, Instagram (Facebook) is a business. There is always a corporate motive.... Ultimately, brands spend the advertising $ on Instagram. This change is going to make it much harder for many brands to judge an influencers effectiveness (which engagement is an indicator of) or know when an account has bought fake followers etc. This will make it harder for brands to truly scale their influencer marketing efforts (without the use of tools with integrated social analytics, hi @heyinfluencers ) leading the way for a further investment into paid The metrics Instagram will be measuring will how often users are opening the app, how long they are staying active and how active, as well as post stay time and of course for brands, total revenue. Ultimately, as a business, they want more users on, more often, for longer so that they can be exposed to more ads. Not how effective this will be for the mental health of its users. Theyre shifting the mentality from the pack to a far more individualised responsibility to engage (which is smart from their position). Think of it like this, if you cannot see the likes total, you feel as though your individual like or comment means more so you will take more time engaging rather than just seeing yourself as lost amongst a sea of others. As a user, I completely acknowledge the benefits of this change and think it seriously does have the capacity to change the type of content and interaction being carried out on the platform. Making it more meaningful, authentic and hopefully more in real time again (things that were taken away when the news feed was de-chronologicalised). Less curated, less homogenous content > more meaningful, in the moment content is a complete plus in my eyes. Plus from a mental health perspective , yes it is seriously damaging especially for young people, to constantly seeking validation through vanity metrics and constantly craving and searching for that next dopamine hit. But like I said, remember there is a corporate motive behind all of this #instagram #socialmedia

12.01.2022 THREADS Facebook has launched a new app, Threads. A new messaging app for Instagram users. The app will be available for iPhone and Android and should be hitting app stores later in the day. Threads is a camera-focused app that allows Instagram users to share their status or quickly send photos and videos to people theyve added to their list of close friends.... "For your smaller circle of friends, we saw the need to stay more connected throughout the day, so you can communicate what youre doing and how youre feeling through photos and videos," the company said in a blog post. "Thats why we built Threads, a new way to message with close friends in a dedicated, private space." The app borrows several elements from Facebook competitor Snap, whose Snapchat app focuses usage on sending photos and videos through private messages. What do you think of Threads? #socialmediamarketing #facebook #instagram

04.01.2022 Big news from Instagram today From today Australian Instagram users will no longer see the number of likes an Instagram post receives, in a major shakeup announced by the social media giant. It seems that the economy of likes - where a tiny red heart is quite literally used as currency to drive influencers careers - has increasingly lost meaning, too. Remember: a picture of an egg holds the record for the most instagram likes.... Not only are likes becoming less revelant, Mia says the move to hide the number of likes will ease the "pressure" on users when theyre posting selfies and sunsets. "We want to make sure that people are not feeling like they should like a particular post because its getting a lot of likes, and that they shouldnt feel like they sharing solely to get likes," Mia says.
