20.01.2022 Under the current COVID-19 restrictions, Victorian vessels are unable to be serviced. The Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIAV) states this poses a major safety risk to approximately 16,000 registered vessels that have not been serviced. Rod wrote to the Minister regarding this issue yesterday see the letter at http://ow.ly/2KUD50BBRNJ

20.01.2022 Here's a snapshot of our sittings held from 24 to 26 November 2020.

20.01.2022 Committee for Melbourne welcomes the Parliamentary Inquiry’s recommendations to extend the Free Tram Zone (FTZ) to include the city’s Arts Precinct and the Melb...ourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) as a tremendous improvement for the visitor experience and visitor economy in Melbourne. Extending the FTZ, which was an original Committee for Melbourne idea-will be more important than ever for Melbourne’s Road to Recovery. That is why we ask the Government to consider extending the FTZ to include all 5 iconic stops proposed by the Committee: Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Melbourne and Olympic Parks and the Melbourne Museum as well as the Arts Precinct and Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) Arts Centre Melbourne This will encourage Melburnians and visitors to come back to enjoy all we have to offer in sports, culture and business events. 17.01.2022 Today, Rod spoke on the Parks and Crown Land Legislation Amendment Bill 2019. The public currently has the right to fish, bird watch and undertake other recreational activities except camping on crown land. This Bill proposes to permit camping on crown land and, create conservation areas and implement protections, regulations, and mechanisms to maintain the land, the local habitat and wildlife.... 'It is clear upon reading this bill that it proposes sufficient policing, management and community consultations to properly implement regulations that consider the impact of camping on locals and licensees on Crown Land.' https://rodbarton.com.au/parks-and-crown-land-legislation-/

10.01.2022 People THANK YOU! We have received so many messages of support re our motion Repair the past not only from the industry that has been treated so badly, but also others outside of us and across the community! This has ricocheted around the country. I would like to share just one email of support. Gidday Rod Just thought I would send you a note of thanks mate.... I saw your speech on reflections , and thought yes that is something to be proud of mate and I was pleased to see you were. As for the knockers who continually try and bring you down, I just want to remind you of an old country saying we have . Yes I know you are a Stanhope boy but given you are now a suit wearing, latte sipping, city type I thought you might have forgotten it. It goes something like this, XXXX EM, it is such a simple saying it is even worth saying twice XXXX EM. What you do is valuable mate and you only have to answer to yourself and your bride, try not to forget that. I also saw the one on past injustices. This is the reason you need reminding about that country expression , it might be a loosing fight, it might be an impossible fight, but that does not make it a fight that should not be had. Unlike the many, you instead chose to do what is difficult, not because you enjoy it but because it is the right thing to do. Thank you to you and your team for doing what you do and never underestimate the effect it has on the forgotten members of this state. These are the guys who after being XXXXXX by the state leadership 3 years ago were the first to put their collective hands up and say our communities need us to stay out there, at personal risk of contracting Covid_19, to ensure people are still able to attend medical appointments and get supplies. Not that bad of a response considering how poorly they had been treated. Please do not let hindsight cloud how real the risk was in the beginning when no one knew what was really happening. Please continue the fight so that one day justice will prevail. Regards XXXXX

10.01.2022 The Victoria Nature Festival is going online these school holidays to encourage people to continue to reconnect with nature as the pandemic heightens appreciation for open green space and local wildlife. 09.01.2022 Food delivery used to mean a teenager bringing a Domino's pizza to your house party in his clapped out hand-me-down Camry. In a few short years, thanks to Uber Eats and other platforms, it has become a ubiquitous, everyday feature of our lives. The pandemic only sealed the deal. 08.01.2022 I would never say that this support is not needed for those businesses[but] there are non-employing sole trader businesses out there, many in the transportation sector, with extraordinary loans and overheads who are yet to qualify for any financial support whatsoever. Stated Mr Barton. See Media Release at https://rodbarton.com.au/premier-sole-traders/

08.01.2022 Due to new COVID rules, in Term 4, there will be a phased return for onsite learning for Prep to Grade 6, Years 11 & 12 and special schools. VCE and VCAL will return from 5th October for assessment and back to school from the 12th October. Prep-Grade 6 will return in the week beginning 12 October, likely staggered through that week.... We know this is an important stage for many parents who have been hard at work home-schooling. Rod Barton wishes all students the best for their return to school.

08.01.2022 This morning Rod was on 3AW talking to Ross and Russell about Infrastructure Victorias call to slash off-peak public transport costs. See http://ow.ly/10il50BzBgY #publictransport

08.01.2022 Rod is currently listening to road safety specialists from Sweden, Norway and the United Kingdom at the online hearing of the Economy and Infrastructure Committees parliamentary inquiry into the Increase in Victoria’s road toll. The hearing is being streamed live at vicparl.news/broadcast until 7 pm.

04.01.2022 Earlier this month, I took part in the Legislative Council Economy and Infrastructure Standing Committee’s public hearing on the Inquiry into the Increase in Victoria’s Road Toll. Among the many valuable presenters invited to this hearing, the Committee was joined by Australia’s leading cycling safety charity, the Amy Gillett Foundation (AGF), who presented on their priorities to keep road users safe in Victoria. Notably, the AGF has been campaigning for A Metre Matters l...egislation changes across Australia for over 10 years. While every other State and Territories has seen changes to this road rule, Victoria remains the only state in Australia that doesn’t have Minimum Passing Distance laws to help both cyclists and drivers interact safely while sharing the road. The discussion with the AGF was a useful reminder that safety for cyclists is really about safety for all road users. I also recognise the importance of road safety for our supporters, as we’ve seen a rising population of 56,345 Eastern Metropolitan residents who are becoming more actively engaged in cycling this year. Cycling related deaths and injuries are preventable and these crashes don’t just impact cyclists they also have a terrible impact on drivers that are involved. As I look forward to continuing to work with the Amy Gillett Foundation on this important issue, I’d love to hear your support in getting A Metre Matters across the line in Victoria and other road safety concerns. If you’d like to learn more about the work that the AGF do, be sure to visit their website at amygillett.org.au

03.01.2022 The Victorian Government is undertaking the largest forest restoration effort in the state’s history with a $7.7 million operation that airlifted tonnes of eucalypt seeds into areas of forest devastated by last summer’s fires. Funding from Bushfire Recovery Victoria’s $110 million State Recovery Plan is helping recover thousands of hectares of burnt Mountain and Alpine Ash forest and enabling seed to be collected from healthy bushland to ensure the re-seeding work can be ongoing. See http://ow.ly/Lg7Z50BHcos.

02.01.2022 The Victorian Government is seeking community feedback on stronger planning controls that deliver on an election commitment to permanently protect Melbourne’s green wedges and agricultural land. These important green areas located within 100 kilometres of Melbourne support thousands of jobs in conservation, tourism and agriculture and are also crucial for food production. 02.01.2022 Today, the Inquiry into Expanding Melbourne’s Free Tram Zone Report was released. Due to differing views, Rod submitted a minority report in recognition of the struggles of our most vulnerable seniors and students; the need to create an accessible and high capacity tram network; and the benefits of the Free Tram Zone creates for tourism, local residents, and our CBD. https://youtu.be/rCVQeSyWYAo

02.01.2022 Once again the Taxi industry is being treated differently to the rest of the community. Nothing in this response tells us what the bleeding obvious what is needed! - that the department needed to pickup the phone, ring Transurban and say if taxis are paying the same rates as everybody else, they should have the same benefits as the rest of the community and give taxis 12 passes per year, like ride share vehicles get.
