24.01.2022 Share your skills and get paid to do it! This is a call-out to young people aged 12-25 with a connection to Darebin who want to run an online tutorial, presentation, conversation, or panel on our Youth Services social media. Were open to anything you can think of as long as it promotes connection, creativity and well-being. So far weve shared secret apple crumble recipes, learnt how to dance the running man, tightened our hook in a boxing class, had cookie bake offs and tri...ed our hand at New Jazz Dance. We are offering a fee of $200 for each Make Space session that we post, and contributors will get support from Darebin Youth Services staff to develop your idea and help you get ready to go online. Head here for more info - https://forms.gle/hHWm8nzJWwQt8bJ18

21.01.2022 All skateparks in Darebin are closed under Stage 4 Restrictions. Continuing to use these spaces will result in a fine of $1652. Victoria Police are extending their patrol to known busy locations under Operation Sentinel to make sure the restrictions are being adhered to. The ongoing issue at Northcote skatepark will see an increased police presence at the skatepark, Northcote train station and around the Plaza in particular. Please, if you are somebody who is using this space or if you know others who might be, stop going to skateparks during these restrictions and share this post. We dont want this lockdown to go on longer then it has to and we especially dont want to see young people and community members getting sick or fined. For more information please visit: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/stage-4-restrictions-summary-co

06.01.2022 The term transgender describes people whose gender identity is different than the identity they were assigned at birth. Today is the first day of Trans awareness week, and it's a fantastic time to be yourself, and to up your Ally skills. This short vid is a great way to familiarize yourself with pronouns and why they matter.

06.01.2022 Ada - POW 8 - Meet the 13-Year-Old Bull Riding Champion https://youtu.be/QPLmBccdEMk This week Ive chosen a video about a young woman called Najiah Knight who is the only female competing in mini bull riding. Although neither I nor the people at Darebin Youth Services condone animal cruelty and the mistreatment of the bulls in bull riding, I really wanted to share this video showcasing Najiahs pure determination, resilience and grit. Being the only female in your chosen sp...ort would be difficult, but Najiah just faces that challenge head on and draws motivation from it to become the best. She is aware of the huge danger of her sport, but her belief in herself and her headstrong drive completely overrides the fear, which I think is extremely inspiring. But again, I want to make it clear that I and Darebin Youth Services do not condone or want to promote animal cruelty and the mistreatment of bulls. See more

05.01.2022 If you are doing exercise or physical activity where you are out of breath or puffing, such as jogging or running, you do not need to wear a face covering. You do have to carry a face covering with you so you can wear it before or after exercising, unless you have a lawful exception. Full details on when and where to wear are in the link:

03.01.2022 We know theres been a lot of talk about masks lately, but we want to remind everybody that until further notice you MUST wear a face covering when out in public or you may receive a potential $200 fine. Some activities and reasons, you DO NOT have to wear a face covering include: - Infants and children under 12. - Someone affected by a relevant medical condition including problems with breathing, a serious skin condition on the face, a disability or a mental health condition.... - Professional sportspeople when training or competing. - When you are doing any exercise or physical activity where you are out of breath or puffing; examples include skateboarding, riding a bike, jogging or running but not walking. You MUST still carry a facemask and wear it when you finish exercising. - When directed by police to remove the face covering for identity purposes. - When driving by yourself or with other people of your household. - When eating, drinking, taking medication or when smoking/vaping. - During emergencies. We know these are confusing times and the rules are forever changing so please check out the link below for more information or get in contact with Darebin Youth Services to ask any questions you may have. Stay safe out there people avoid sickness, avoid fines. https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/face-coverings-1159pm-wednesday See more

01.01.2022 Nell POW 8 ABD DNL VIDEO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NcICyljTzw&t=227s This week I have chosen the ABD a video made by DNL a female skate crew in Melbourne. It is a nice local video, filled with familiar spots all around the CBD. DNL are the first female only skate crew in Melbourne and create a safe space for girls and women to learn skateboarding in an empowering environment. They have created a community where they support one another and have fun. DNL have an open-door policy, welcoming any female skaters to join them, removing the experience of feeling alienated as a woman in the skate community and creating safe space to learn and grow. DNL is not focused on skill level or ability it is all about having fun which is the most important part of skating.

01.01.2022 In the next and final chapter of the Rezza+’Voir Laneways public art project we invite you to take part in the art. As we all begin to consider life after the COVID-19 restrictions we want to know: what’s getting you through these strange times? From the simple to the grand, in one or two sentences, we’d love to hear who or what’s helped you cope, and hey, perhaps even made you smile. Your contributions will be made into posters and accompanied by young local artists’ work in... the two laneways adjacent to Edwardes and Spring Street. The installation will brighten up the laneways and offer some hope for the coming spring and summer period. Contribute your stories to Chapter 3: Living in Strange Times in the ‘Share your stories’ section via the link or send an email to the City Design Unit on [email protected](External link)
