23.01.2022 UPDATED ADOPTION PROGRAM FOR IPSWICH As you may have noticed in recent months, our adoption page has been filled with lots of wonderful adoption cats, but none of our dog and puppy friends. After many months of evaluation, we have made the decision in the interest of animal welfare to move dog adoptions from our Ipswich location. All public services including the intake of stray dogs, cruelty cases and holds, remain the same. ... Our Ipswich facility cares for an incredible number of cats and in comparison only a handful of dogs at any one time. Even before this decision, every dog in care at Ipswich requires transfer to our Wacol facility for veterinary treatment and behavioural testing before finally being returned to Ipswich for adoption. Sadly, due to the low number of dog adoptions in Ipswich, many of these dogs wait for far too long in our care and are subsequently are transferred back to Wacol once again for a better chance at a happy home. By making the decision to have Ipswich dogs move to and stay at our Wacol facility, the dogs are being provided a better shelter experience with lowered stress levels and they're finding happy homes faster. Meanwhile, in Ipswich we can increase and better the care of our cats as a result of this reduced movement, nose and stress. We will continue to care for all animals in the best way we can. *Edited 13/11/2020 to provide further insight into this decision and its impact on the animals in our care.
