23.01.2022 'Port Fairy Folk Festival 2019' Sachar Amos Stringed Instruments will be holding a ‘Restored musical instruments’ display at Port Fairy music festival March 8-11 as part of the instrument makers exhibition. On display will be instruments that I have recently restored including Greek bouzouki and Gibson Mandolins from the early 1900’s. If you’re going to be at Port Fairy festival, feel welcome drop by over the weekend to say hello and check out these fantastic instruments back in full playing condition. I look forward to seeing you there!

15.01.2022 Recently this Santa Cruz guitar came into the workshop with a stain on the soundboard. The client had left a blue polishing cloth on top of the soundboard and shut the case, before leaving the instrument for 12 months whilst away overseas. When he came home the dye from the cloth had leached into the lacquer via a chemical reaction. At first we thought it may have just been in the top coat but after cutting back the surface a little, it turned out that it had gone right through the lacquer finish, only stopping at the wood itself. The decision was then made by the client to refinish the entire guitar top to original appearance. Thank you to Santa Cruz guitars who oversaw this restoration via photos and email.

05.01.2022 Recently I’ve finished a couple of new guitar builds including this classical guitar inspired by the work of guitar maker Francisco Simplicio (1874-1932)..Whilst not a copy, this instruments body shape and decorative style was influenced by Simplicio’s rosette and purfling designs..The back & sides are maple from Austria and the soundboard is spruce harvested from a high altitude forest in Switzerland where the tree has grown very slowly (approx. 1-2 mm of diameter per year) creating a responsive soundboard that was able to be worked thin and remain strong ..Thanks also to Ben Puglisi for his help in UV tanning the timbers of the instrument to achieve the aged and warm look of the guitar..Features of this guitar include string length - 650 mm and French polish finish.
