23.01.2022 It was a sad incident - with #LachlanBrigade #YourBrigade being supported by our mates from New Norfolk Fire Brigade Magra Brigade, Bushy Park and Gretna Brigad...es. A piece of the history of #OurValley was lost with the hop kiln in the top end of the Lachlan going up in flames. Built around 1880, the dry timbers proved a strong fuel source with the building completely fire damaged. Two other buildings were saved through the efforts of all attending crews. The #LachlanRATS extend their sympathies to Jack and Christine who have been great supporters of the Brigade. #ProudtobeaRAT #TFSVolunteers #OurPeople #OurVolunteers Images: Lynette Graham (original image from Our New Norfolk page) Andrew Lewis (from Our New Norfolk Page) Lachlan Brigade (Victor and Steve)

19.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service has declared an end to the fire permit statewide from 2am tomorrow (Thursday 26 March). This means that anyone in Tasmania intending to light a private fuel reduction burn will no longer require a fire permit to do so. Even though permits are no longer required, landowners who plan to light burns on their property should:... be mindful of the weather be prepared with an adequate water supply have access to firefighting equipment be physically capable consult with the owners of neighbouring properties, particularly those with vulerable crops such as vineyards. This update brings the north and south in line with the north west which had the permit period revoked a fortnight ago. At all times burning on private property is governed by local council by-laws which must be adhered to and environmental laws which govern smoke emissions. Property owners planning to burn on their land should visit fire.tas.gov.au for further information. Call 1800 000 699 to register their burn to prevent an unnecessary visit from a local brigade.
15.01.2022 A house fire in Glenorchy last night was caused by a clothes dryer, destroying a garage, and $100,000 damage. Some tips for safe clothes dryer use: clean the ...lint filter after each use - lint is highly flammable and is the cause of many dryer-related fires. make sure your dryer is well ventilated. always run the dryer to the end of the cool down cycle - fires have been caused when the dryer has been stopped before the end of the cycle, causing the items to keep heating up and combusting while they are in a pile. For more information about how to stay stafe this winter visit www.fire.tas.gov.au

09.01.2022 A 21-year-old woman from Kingston remains in hospital in a critical condition following a single vehicle crash on the South Arm Highway at Sandford at 7:15 last... night. The woman who was the driver of a red Toyota Camry was trapped for a short period of time before being freed by emergency service personnel. The crash occurred on the South Arm Highway just north of the Clifton Beach turnoff. A 19-year-old female passenger was also taken to hospital with minor injuries. The South Arm Highway was closed for a short period whilst forensic and Crash Investigation Services personnel examined the scene, Sergeant Adrian Mollon said. Preliminary investigations indicate that excessive speed for the conditions was a contributing factor in this crash, Sergeant Adrian Mollon said. With increased traffic over this long weekend, we ask that motorists drive to the road conditions, particularly when travelling at night on damp roads, he said. Anyone who observed the vehicle travelling on the South Arm Highway prior to the crash is asked to contact police on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at crimestopperstas.com.au
08.01.2022 We've seen an increase in call outs to people burning off on their properties and leaving the fire unattended. Make sure you give us a call to register your bu...rn. That way we can put the fire on our map and if someone calls to report the fire, we'll be able to give you a call before we respond. This way you can avoid an unnecessary visit from your local brigade and our vollies can carry on enjoying their long weekend. Fires on your property must never be left unattended, even at this time of year, and make sure it's out before you leave it. Stay safe everyone!
04.01.2022 Have you ever wanted to see exactly what it's like to fight a fire first hand? Well, thanks to Fire and Rescue NSW Station 83 Riverstone you can. Riverstone Fir...e Station were called to a kitchen fire on Wednesday, 9 September after a pot of oil caught alight. The kitchen was extensively damaged, however the owner's of the home escaped with only minor injuries. Check out the below video to see a kitchen fire through the eyes of a firefighter. Kitchen fires are the leading cause of house fires in NSW and a hot oil fire can engulf a room in a matter of minutes. Never attempt to put out an oil fire using water. Use a fire blanket only if it is safe to do so. Act quickly. Get out. Stay Out. Call Triple Zero (000) and wait for firefighters to attend. You can prevent a kitchen fire from happening by never leaving cooking unattended. #PreparedForAnything #MoreThanFire
