25.01.2022 ELECTION FORUMS Answering multiple Q’s to complex and at times controversial issues in 30 mins certainly is electric in amongst the prepoll sunburn, and trying to look fresh?? Thank you to Green Drinks Noosa for testing a 'fried' brain to revisit bills passed, statistics, as well where we have been, and where we can go. What is achievable and deliverable is often a contestable, and does not need to be? #noosaforums #openmic #qldstateelections2020 #QandAs

24.01.2022 GOOD NEWS FOR OUR SCHOOL ‘BUSSERS’ It has been fabulous after advocacy to Buslink and Minister Bailey for extra services to alleviate overcrowding and ‘long routes’ that we will have more direct and dedicated services from the following schools - Cooroy State School, Noosa District High School, Noosaville State School, Tewantin State School, Good Shepherd Lutheran College, St Teresa's Catholic College, St Thomas More College, St Andrews Anglican College, and Peregian Spri...ngs State School. 24.01.2022 UNUSUAL TRADITIONS . As the seconder to the nomination of Curtis Pitt MP as Speaker of the House, the ceremonies today saw parts of our past which requires the Nominator (The Premier) and Seconder (myself) required to ‘drag’ the elected Member to the Chair. This, a throwback to Middle Ages England, where the Speaker represented the Parliament to the Crown, a role which had considerable risk of death. At least it is now not fatal, though at times may feel that way? COVID rest...rictions meant we could not do the ‘drag’, so we improvised with some distanced ‘pushing’, which may create a new tradition? From there, we headed to Government House, Brisbane to present the newly elected Speaker to his Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey Governor of Queensland and formalities included introductions without handshaking, physically distanced photos and some refreshments of traditional cucumber sandwiches! Once back to base, farewelling my fellow cross benchers who have been moved from our abode of the last 3 years to the higher ground of the 12th floor. Myself and the Member for Mirani will be left to our own devices in the reshuffle of spaces, which includes another new Chamber position! Musical chairs, offices and sadly not bedrooms as I retained the dreaded spot next to the freeway A big day, and one in which I was greatly honoured to be part of, and to ‘second’ a Member of Parliament who has great integrity, treats us all equitably, and gives great advice, even when it may not be what we want to hear! #57thparliament #openingweek #behindthescenes #mpmoments See more

24.01.2022 FRASER ISLAND FIRE UPDATE Current status ‘PREPARE TO LEAVE: Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village as at 3.30pm Tue 1 Dec’. Any person at Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village should follow the directions of QLD Fire & Emergency Service or QLD Parks & Wildlife Service Officers. It is important to know that while Kingfisher is on Prepare to Leave, other areas of Fraser Island are on Stay Informed which could change rapidly. As at 3.30pm part of the fire is travelling from Boon Bo...on Creek south towards the Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village. As at 10am this morning, another fire was located approx 4kms west of Happy Valley and another approx 3kms south of Cathedrals. You need to be ready to follow your bushfire survival plan. If you do not have a plan, or intend to leave, you should be ready to leave the area because the situation could get worse quickly. Extensive water bombing has been effective in slowing the spread of the fire, however conditions remain unpredictable and can change rapidly. Fire crews are working to contain the fire but firefighters may not be able to protect every property. 24.01.2022 ASSESSING OUR FUTURE NEEDS Wonderful to meet up with Ramsay Health chief executive officer Justin Greenwell to discuss future plans for the Noosa Hospital now that the lease and public services contract has been secured! #Noosahealth #ourfuture #teamNoosa

24.01.2022 REMEMBRANCE DAY 2020. Even though we could not honour as we traditionally do with hundreds at the cenotaph, the intent was no less. Laying wreaths at both Tewantin and Cooroy, joining our veterans for reflection and prayer, and the release of peace doves as part remembering. Thank you to Adel and the Tewantin Noosa RSL Sub Branch team, and to all who on the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month, took that one minute of silence today #wewillrememberthem #lestweforget

23.01.2022 MP BEHIND THE SCENES - It’s always good to meet those starting their journey in to the world of reporting. Today was no different when interviewed by this burgeoning 7NEWS Sunshine Coast reporter on a potential hung parliament and the balance of power, and who I support. The answer is simple. I support Noosa, it's residents and aims. Whoever will commit genuinely to our endeavours respectfully with real intent, not 'tokenism', would be considered favourably :) #noosafirst #keepnoosaindependent #teamnoosa #qldstateelections2020 #commit

The Minister has assured us that a planning taskforce has been established in relation to the issues raised and that adequate resources are available to local police during this period. COVID SAFE ACTIVE CLUBS KICKSTART congratulations to the many clubs in our electorate who had successful applications for these grants, all extremely well deserved. Combined, our clubs received $70,000. Way to go Noosa!!! To finish. A fabulous treat for this MP when I got to play Deputy Speaker for our Youth Parliamentarians this afternoon. Hosted online, between technology glitches, a missed reading(or two!) we all survived without anyone being asked to leave the ‘Chamber’, which Madam Deputy Speaker had wanted to test out? Our future is in good hands, thank you YP's As always, you know the signoff !! Sandy

23.01.2022 ROAD SAFETY There is nothing more important in our efforts to reduce trauma and fatalities than our understanding of our role and responsibility in ‘choice’. Thank you to the Rotary Club of Noosa Heads for the RYDA Road Safety program that provides the knowledge and tools for our youngest drivers to make choices for their safety, and to other road users. And thank you to John who shared the reality of the aftermath. #driverawareness #notomobiles #drivetosurvive #itsuptoyou #itsuptous #rotaryinternational #dtmr #qps

23.01.2022 GIFT OF THE GABB! It was such an honour to celebrate 47 years of Rotary service with the hard working John Gabb and his fellow Rotarians. 23.01.2022 DOLPHIN FATALITY UPDATE - It is deeply saddening to lose a dolphin or any marine life in shark nets. The Department of Fisheries advises that they received notification at 10.46am on Monday 11 January regarding a dolphin in the shark net off Noosa beach. A crew was sent immediately, however the dolphin was deceased. Shark Control Program (SCP) equipment is checked regularly, weather permitting, with an average of every second day. However, in this case due to bad weather, th...ey were unable to check over the weekend of 9-10 January. The Department advises that they are committed to minimising the impact of SCP nets and drumlines on non-target marine animals and all nets are fitted with dolphin alarms which aim to reduce entanglements. Publicly available data available at https://qfish.fisheries.qld.gov.au/ shows that, during 2020, no dolphins were caught in SCP nets at Noosa. We have updated to 360 the current status of government’s progress in relation to moving to Smart drumlines, the Shark Control Program and alternatives measures to avoid marine fatalities whilst retaining swimmer safety. Please see the link below. https://www.sandybolton.com/shark-nets-update-and-control-/

23.01.2022 ANNIVERSARY OF OUR PEREGIAN FIRES. Today was an emotional day, revisiting both the trauma, as well the connectivity, support and sheer ‘togetherness’ we experienced in what was an unprecedented event. With a record number of QFES appliances in history fighting to keep our community safe, the incredible volunteers through our Rural ‘Firies’ and SES, businesses, organisations, Noosa Council staff and all who opened their homes and hearts. I did not want to speak, however did ...as I could not get around to everyone today who I was with in evacuation and command centers, and who contacted during and in the aftermath with what they sought, and updated as quick as I could! It has been wonderful to deliver new trucks, equipment, and through our efforts see amongst other requests the review on the terminology in alerts beingactioned at a Local, State and Federal Level. Again, thank you so much to everyone who came together at that time, and did so today, to look after each other, and reiterate how united we are in keeping everyone safe. The words of our youngest, and pictures including the photos by @Barbora Tomikova say it all, including the beauty in the aftermath. And yes, even though I could not locate in my stacker crates those ‘Evac’ undies presented to me by the Tewantin Noosa Lions Club when the last of the evacuees could go home, at some point I hope to have time to find, as embarrassing as they are, told a story! And don't forget, always be #fireready #teamnoosa #peregiancommunityhouse #loveourcommunity #noosacouncil #qfes #qps #ses #rfbqAnd so may others!! See more

21.01.2022 UNSCHEDULED UPDATE 16 SEPTEMBER 2020 An update regarding both residential and commercial tenancies which as promised we would post as soon as received, hence the brevity. RESIDENTIAL TENANCIES Several protections will stay in place to protect tenants as households continue to recover. These include: Protections for tenants from being listed in a tenancy database for unpaid rent caused by COVID-19 impacts; Tenants experiencing domestic violence being able to end their in...terest in a tenancy agreement quickly; Limited reletting costs for eligible tenants who end their fixed lease early; Entry restrictions and requirements that support social distancing requirements; and Relaxed repair and maintenance obligations that recognise impacts on lessors while maintaining tenant safety in the rental property. These remaining COVID-19 protections will remain in place until 31 December 2020. The free conciliation service will continue and you can contact the Residential Tenancy Authority on 134268. To read more about these changes, please visit rta.qld.gov.au/renting/covid-19-changes COMMERCIAL TENANCIES The moratorium on evictions for commercial leaseholders has been extended to 31 December 2020. We are awaiting further details, however, until then, our Small Business Commissioner Maree who has been working with us is available to provide support where necessary on 130031234 or via www.business.qld.gov.au/running-bus/support-assistance/qsbc Sandy

09.01.2022 UNSCHEDULED UPDATE 22 SEPTEMBER 2020 BORDER ZONE EXTENDED as 1am on October 1, Queensland’s border zone with NSW will be extended to include Ballina, Casino and other areas along the length of the border. Please see attached photo and the areas circled in green. These are new additions to the border zone which ends at the red boundary. In addition, the northern boundary of the border zone will be removed, meaning that those coming from within the border zone can now travel ...to anywhere within QLD. The border zone is not intended to act as a quarantine zone for the two states and is only there to enable the movement of residents within the border zone for day-to-day activities. You must be a ‘resident’ of the border zone to enter QLD without quarantining and residents from declared hotspots can’t simply holiday for two weeks within the border zone and then gain entry into QLD. With the reopening of the border to ACT at 1am on Friday 25 September, the increased international arrivals into QLD starting next week and now this extended border zone, a reminder to keep doing everything you have been doing with your distancing, testing when necessary and so forth, so we can continue to see more restrictions lifted.
