22.01.2022 This week we were invited by Alligator Creek State School Year1 students, to talk about our catchment and ways to keep it healthy. We had lots of fun and thankyou to Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority for coming along as well. Our school support program is funded through Mackay Regional Council Natural Environment Levy.

19.01.2022 Calling all froggers! 6-15 November is FrogID Week - Australia’s biggest frog count. Whether you visit your local creek, pond, nature reserve, or your own ba...ckyard every recording of a frog call contributes to the FrogID team’s research. The data obtained during FrogID Week allows researchers to gain an ‘audioshot’ of Australia’s frogs each year. It helps researchers measure frog health and their distribution around Australia, and how this may have changed over time. Our amphibian friends also play a key role in Australian ecosystems. Observing frog populations can give us a good indication of ecosystem health as frogs are sensitive to environmental change. It’s easy to get involved and the FrogID app is free to download. Head over to the FrogID webpage to learn more: https://portal.frogid.net.au/frog-id-week : Green and Golden Bell Frog (Litoria aurea) Stephen Mahoney (Australian Museum)

17.01.2022 Great photos, however sea turtles , especially Flatbacks which this girl is can be easily put off from nesting. If you are fortunate enough to observe a turtle... nesting please keep your distance, especially from the front. This is way to close unless it was taken with a zoom lens. 10 mtrs please. If a turtle is disturbed while nesting she may abanon the nest and return to the water without laying. She will most likely try again , however if she is disturbed again sometimes they will return to the water and jettison that clutch of eggs. Thats 50 to 60 eggs that will never have the chance to develop into hatchlings. Remember only 1 in a thousand reach maturity. Please keep your distance and no lights . See more

16.01.2022 *** FRECKLE FARM WALK THIS SATURDAY & SUNDAY *** After a long wait we are happy to announce that we will be hosting two farm walks this weekend. We have been ho...lding off running them as we wanted to wait until the sunflowers in our multi-species crop were in bloom. From the look of the crop today this weekend will be our best option and so we're opening up the farm to visitors on Saturday and Sunday. We expect this will be the only weekend we will be able to do this as the sunflowers only bloom out for a short window. All of our friendly farm animals will be on show and you are welcome to enjoy a picnic while your here. Please visit the website for more information and to book your tickets. 09.01.2022 We are excited! One month to go til the Aussie Backyard Bird Count! Australia’s largest annual bird count event is back for its 7th year! Held between 192...5 October, the Aussie Backyard Bird Count is a great way to connect with the birds in your backyard, no matter where your backyard happens to be. You can count in a suburban backyard, a local park, a patch of forest, down by the beach, or the main street of town. In fact, you don't even have to leave home, making it the ultimate Covid-safe activity! To take part all you need is 20 minutes and your favourite outdoor space. Not only will you be contributing to BirdLife Australia's knowledge of Aussie birds, but there are also some great prizes on offer. Head over to the Aussie Backyard Bird Count website and register as a Counter today! https://aussiebirdcount.org.au/ The yearly bird count gives us a snapshot in time of bird numbers around the nation so if you’ve participated before and are raring to go remember the app doesn’t kick in until the count begins on 19 October (one month to go!). #AussieBirdCount See more
