25.01.2022 While we are still allowed to run here's something to think about on your next run. Tip your nose down to shift your weight further forward and get that slight forward lean. You still want to run tall with shoulders back, down and relaxed, but look down slightly and you should find a little extra momentum to make things a little easier. You should just see the tops of your knees as they swing through. This isn't an excuse to bend in the middle though. Hold that middle bit tight. Picked this tip up from ex pro triathlete Rebecca Keat while I was scrolling through FB the other day and it does help.

24.01.2022 Four SAS athletes racing this weekend in what is sure to be another cracking race. I will be proudly lining up with the following committed athletes. Col Wright makes his comeback triathlon race after his disagreement with a kangaroo on a training ride one dark morning. He has been patient and has worked hard with his recovery. Sally-anne Smith continues her build to be ready to tackle a maiden Ironman somewhere next year with another Hervey Bay Hundred. She has made some good gains through the year and is sure to be solid over the home course. The final SAS athlete to start on Sunday is Karen Watson. Looking forward to seeing what Karen can produce and I'm expecting a consistent race to build on towards IM Cairns 2021.

22.01.2022 Mooloolaba race report. Bit of a crazy weekend with a fair bit of uncertainty and a touch of controversy. Shortened swim, lengthened run, a tricky breeze, and a lot of unhappy people who wanted the race cancelled. But it went ahead and the crew from SAS made the most of what looks like our last race for some time with some great results. Christie posted 2.37.25. 4th in mates wave. A great result considering the lack of running in the last couple of months due to a recurr...ing knee injury. Sally-Anne had a solid race with 2.55.06. 43rd in cat. This was a train through race that actually just turned into her A race with the post-ponement / cancellation of Ironman Cairns. We will get there eventually Sally-Anne. Steve finished in 2.04.58 and took home a new water bottle with 3rd in cat. Some of our best training buddies raced along side us on Sunday as well. Shout out to Matt - 2.37.26. Simon -2.36.12 and Bruce 2.05.54. Now that pretty much all racing has been put on hold for an indeterminate amount of time, it's a chance to consider and test your motivations for training. Keep plugging away, wake up early and build that engine guys. Before you know it we will be standing on the start line once again. Safe training

18.01.2022 https://facebook.com/events/s/ultra355-australia-hervey-bay/729144357929319/?ti=as How lucky are we to have events like these setting up shop in our town. First the Hundy and now Ultra 355 which is sure to be a great success. Swimming, cycling and running for 3 days instead of one. Now this is a race to get excited about.

16.01.2022 Sending good luck vibes to all athletes racing at the Hundy this weekend. SAS has Lou racing in the Barge to Beach and backing up for the 50 on Sunday. Sally Anne and Bruce racing the 100, Christie in the 50 and Col doing the swim/ bike in a Hundy team. All have been committed and consistent in the last few months and have given themselves a great opportunity to have crackers out there. See you all on the race track.

13.01.2022 A lot of people got together today at the Sunny Coast to swim, ride and run a long way. They called it a triathlon or a marathon or something. Whatever it was let's hope we see more of it in the near future. After a successful brick session last Sunday SAS athlete Sally-Anne Smith decided to race the Sunny Coast 70.3. On short notice and with no real race preparation we threw together a taper and race plan and Sally-Anne did the rest with a great result. 6hrs20min for 24th in age group. Great reward for a very consistent athlete.

12.01.2022 Soooo, long time no post. Ironman time for the SAS crew with 3 athletes competing on Sunday. Sally-Anne, Karen and some old bloke with a lot less hair than the last time he raced in Cairns. There was going to be a bigger contingent but injury and someone forgetting to enter, cough Bruce Williamson, the number was limited to 3. The Cairns Ironman is a tough race and choosing this as her first full distance race Sally-Anne has set herself an awesome challenge. If consistency... in training counts for anything Sal Sim is going to have a good day. Next to line up is Karen who kindly greets us as we sleep walk into the pool in the mornings. Karen has raced the distance before but never in Cairns and not for a while. Karen has a clear strength on the run and will be good to see what she can produce once she happily hops off the bike and pulls the runners on. I'm lining up for my 4th or 5th?? trips around the Cairns course. Training has been going well and I'm looking forward stretching the legs and high-fiving some kids. In a covid responsible way. Good luck to everyone racing in Cairns. See more

09.01.2022 Another weekend of racing under the belt with SASers competing at both Gundy and New Zealands iconic multisport event the Coast to Coast. Steve, Christie, Matt and Lou braved the bus trip out to race the Hell of the West long course race in Goondiwindi. At the last minute the swim was cancelled and the triathlon became a duathlon. Everyone adapted well and put in some solid performances. Thanks to a great race and flood water resulting in an extended bus trip home, it wil...l surely be a day to remember. The Coast to Coast is a daunting race on paper. To ride, run and paddle from one side of New Zealand to the other is a big achievement by anyones standards. Congratulations to Amie, Cass and Chris for racing 15hrs in freezing conditions and all for a beer. Looking forward to the next major race on the calendar, the Mooloolaba Standard distance tri in a few weeks when will see SAS in action once again. See more

04.01.2022 Hervey Bay 100 and 50 wrap up. Hot, windy, chop and swell. Standard conditions for the Hundy and the reason we love it and keep coming back for more. Only Lou and Bruce were crazy enough to do the B2B on the Saturday and then back up the next day for the triathlon. Both apparently swam the long way back to the beach like a lot of the field but had fun in the process. Christie and Lou lined up for the 50. Christie made the most of being forced by injury to race the shorte...r distance to come home 2nd female overall and 1st in her category with a 2.29. Lou finished well in 2.56 to finish 3rd in her category. Some more results like that and it's going to be hard to tell people you are not a triathlete. In the 100 the SAS team consisted of Steve, Bruce, Sally Anne and Col in a team. Steve won his category in 4.03, followed by Bruce who was 2nd in 4.16. Sally Anne finished her first long course race with a smile in 15th place 5.36. Col swam and biked for his team with a blitzing 33min swim in less than perfect conditions and 2.21 bike. Big thanks to the HBTC and all the volunteers for making the race as good as it was. Quick mention of a few guys who would loved to have raced but couldn't be there. Roger who is on the injury comeback and spent the morning cheering us on. And Amie and Cass who were doing a white water certificate in preparation for Coast 2 Coast in Feb. Would be good to see you guys back at the Hundy next year. The SAS crew are small in numbers but I think we made an impact on the race this year so well done you guys. See more

02.01.2022 Race plan for Sunday Sally-anne and Karen.

02.01.2022 A quick wrap up of the SAS athletes who competed at the Hundy last weekend. Col - 5.07 - Congrats to Col for starting the race as he continues to recover from injury and showing real determination to finish. Sally Anne - 5.24. A great result for Sally Anne who is slowly moving her way up the age group with every race she does. Karen - succumbed to illness on the 3rd lap of the bike. After a promising lead up and a great swim unfortunately Karen racks this race up to exper...ience without a finish time. We are all behind you Karen. Steve - 3.56 - I enjoyed my day and high-fived a couple of kids. Congratulations to the Hundy organising committee and all the volunteers on another hugely successful event. Bring on 2021. See more
