25.01.2022 Frustrated residents resort to pop-up pool on Council's pop-up park. Let's hope this isn't what our third aquatic facility will come to! Last day today to write submissions to oppose the DA to demolish Kogarah War Memorial Pool. (link in comments below with details to write your submission).... https://www.theleader.com.au//pop-up-pool-protest-at-kog/

25.01.2022 There is a lot of truth to this comment:- 'If there is one thing that any of us have learnt from our great coach Dick Caine, is that a race in won and lost in its final stages, the toughest and most determined will always prevail. I urge everyone to KEEP FIGHTING, THE RACE ISNT OVER YET!!'

24.01.2022 This thought bubble take over came from Councillor Elmir from the floor of Council. Bayside Councillors give their response. "What the councillors at Georges River Council don't understand is that Bayside Council spends $2 million on our beautiful beachfront. They can't get their act together to redevelop Carss Park Pool but they are talking about taking over our beautiful foreshore. Clr Saravinovski Cr Ed McDougall said, "What I suggest to the councillors on Georges RIver C...ouncil is if they want to align with the Federal seat of Cook they should accept Prime Minister Scott Morrison's ($5 million) grant money for Carss Park pool and rebuild it there." https://www.theleader.com.au//the-incredible-takeover-of/

24.01.2022 Some thoughts about Kogarah War Memorial Pool in advance of Remembrance Day tomorrow.

22.01.2022 Letters to the Editor:- Brian Shaw provides some history on service men and woman from St George and gives us a glimpse into the significance of the Kogarah War Memorial Pool. The Heritage study included by Council in the DA documentation for the demolition of this War Memorial does not in any way address the significance of the community value of the Memorial Pool (in fact in the 80-page document, it mentions the word RSL just 6-times and downplays the RSL's contribution to ...the pool). The decision by Mayor Greene and his supporting Councillors not to support the RSL's application for a grant to study the significance of this War Memorial is a disgrace. https://www.theleader.com.au//kogarah-war-memorial-is-si/

22.01.2022 Wouldn’t it be wonderful if in Veterans Health Week, veterans could connect with each other by visiting their War Memorial pool at Carss Park??

22.01.2022 World Triathlon Champion Greg Welch signs the pledge to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. Greg won "The Grand Slam" of the triathlon world, which includes the ITU Triathlon World Championships (1990), The Hawaiian Ironman World Championship (1994), the ITU Duathlon World Championships (1993) and the Long Course Triathlon World Championship (1994). Greg was a Cronulla local and one of the many champions that came across to train at Carss Park Pool to be under Dick Caine.... 21.01.2022 Thank you Tim Tszyu for your support to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. When will the 8 Georges River Councillors who ignored their community finally realise that this pool and the rebuilding of it is beyond politics? https://www.theleader.com.au//tim-tszyus-next-fight-savi/

19.01.2022 'There's no money to build a pool at Jubilee and at a time when the Government has racked up $100 billion of debt - the highest in the history of the State - they're unlikely to find the money any time soon. This brings us back to the only sensible solution for our community. To build Carss Park Pool - the Council must secure the site and begin plans to construct the pool the community needs and wants.' https://www.theleader.com.au//st-george-matters-with-chr/

15.01.2022 Thank you Chris Minns MP for clarifying your comments in this Leader article. We agree. Any investment and redevelopment of Jubilee Oval does not replace the need and obligation of Georges River Council to replace an existing community aquatic facility; the Kogarah War Memorial Pool at Carss Park. https://www.theleader.com.au//mps-welcome-oval-investment/

14.01.2022 Thank you to Georges River Council Peakhurst Ward Councillor Colleen Symington who has signed the pledge to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. It is important we recognise that 7 of our 15 Councillors are listening to the community with regards to Saving Carss Park Pool and Todd Park, and Colleen is one of the 7. Colleen says;... 'I believe that Carss Park Pool is important to us all and I will continue to advocate for it. Please note that these views are my own and do not necessarily reflect the views of Georges River Council.'

14.01.2022 Very good summary here by Jim Gainsford from The Leader on the 90min long debate last night on this motion relating to Jubilee Stadium. Strong questioning from Councillors Landsberry, Hindi, Katris & Badalati with not very many answers from Mayor Greene. https://www.theleader.com.au//state-government-promise-o/

14.01.2022 Tune in to the Extraordinary Council Meeting on now at 6PM where there is a Notice of Rescission in respect to the Question with Notice from Councillor Grekas, which called for Councillors who have become aware they are the subject of a ‘preliminary’ investigation by ICAC to stand aside. These Councillors have been solid supporters of Rebuilding Carss Park Pool on the current site. https://join-apac.broadcast.skype.com//fc6647194d824ef284b

13.01.2022 In Learn to Swim Week, Olympic Coach & drowning prevention advocate Laurie Lawrence has a clear and simple message for Georges River Councillors - Save Carss Park Memorial Pool! Watch the video and sign the pledge: https://forms.gle/bz9MfcP9tXobNTmT6 Anyone can sign the pledge!

12.01.2022 44 State Government-owned properties in Georges River LGA have been sold off in the past 5 years. Kogarah MP Chris Minns said the figures were alarming. "The NSW Liberals must explain why they have sold off so many properties and what the money has been spent on," Mr Minns said. "These are funds that could have been used to save Carss Park Pool or improve road safety around Hurstville schools, or any number of important local issues."... https://www.theleader.com.au//alarming-sell-off-of-state/

11.01.2022 Wow - its a bit rich for Councillor Elmir to be laying blame at the former Kogarah Council (and Councillors Kathryn Landsberry and Katris who both served on the former Kogarah Council) on why more funds weren't allocated to save Kogarah War Memorial Pool years ago? Let's just take a reality check on that. Firstly, Clr Elmir.....you were a former Councillor of Kogarah Municipal Council between 2008-2012. Did you move any motions during that time to invest in the maintenance or... upgrading of Kogarah War Memorial Pool? Secondly, Clr Elmir, since you've served on Georges River Council since 2017, when reports dating back as far as 2011 showed this pool required funds invested for maintenance and upgrading....did you advocate for your ward to secure funding from the NSW Stronger Communities Grants Funding for the pools upgrade? This funding, which was intended for amalgamated councils, saw Hornsby Shire Council (which did not amalgamate) received $90 million from this fund! Was Kogarah War Memorial Pool in the wrong state electorate to get on the list to receive funding from this fund? And let's not forget Clr Elmir, it was your Notice of Motion from 23rd April 2018 which started this long drawn out and expensive process, of producing report after report, and putting the upgrading of an existing asset, Carss Park Pool, into a competition with other locations that are totally unsuitable for an aquatic centre. You can spin it all sorts of different ways, but the community are not stupid. The community will remember that Councillor Landsberry and Councillor Katris are on the right side of history with their decisions in regards to Kogarah War Memorial Pool. The community will remember you for saying one thing, and then doing the exact opposite against the wishes of the community and the 10,700 people who signed a petition for the pool to be rebuilt on the current site, and for turning your back on $5m funding from the Prime Minister.

10.01.2022 Former captain of the Wallabies, Phil Kearns signs the pledge to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. Phil represented the Wallabies 67 times and was captain on ten occasions. Phil grew up at Connells Point and learnt to swim at Carss Park Pool and continued training there during his rugby career. 10.01.2022 The fight continues - Why the community won't drop Carss Park Pool 'Carss Park Pool - or the Kogarah War Memorial Pool - is a legacy left to our generation by our forebears in memory of those who paid the ultimate price. For that reason alone it should remain open for future generations.'... https://www.theleader.com.au//st-george-matters-with-chr/

09.01.2022 Thank you to Georges River Councillor Rita Kastanias who supports the community and has signed the pledge to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. Clr Kastanias has consistently voted in support of the community to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. *This is Clr Kastanias's view and not the view of Georges River Council.

08.01.2022 Thank you Chris Minns MP for standing up for and representing the community who have loudly and consistently called on Georges River Council to rebuild Carss Park Pool. GRC would like the community to think that Carss Park Pool is done and dusted. Far from it. We all stand behind you ready to fight for the long haul for the pool to be rebuilt and returned to the community.

06.01.2022 Olympian Janelle Pallister (nee Elford) signs the pledge to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. Janelle qualified for the Olympic final in both the 400m and 800m freestyle at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and won a Gold, Silver and Bronze medal at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. In Janelle’s tribute to Dick Caine (which you can read here http://www.teamcaine.com.au/tribute_janelle.html) she explains her success after joining Carss Park Pool;... ‘In 5 months, I went from winning 1 silver Medal at Age Nationals in the 100m F8, to Winning 4 GOLD MEDALS at OPEN Nationals in PERTH 1987, in 400m, 800m, 1500m Freestyle and 400m lM. 04.01.2022 I remember Emma continued to training with a broken foot at Carss Park Pool with Dick Caine, treading water with a belt on through winter, She went onto win a World Championship 4 weeks later, Her dedication to the sport of Triathlonis still evident as is her passion for Kogarah War Memorial Pool that has nurtured so many wonderful athletes. Please support the pledge that these athletes are passionate about.

03.01.2022 Thank you to Georges River Council Kogarah Bay Ward Councillor Nick Katris who has signed the pledge to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. Councillor Katris is one of the 7 Councillors who is listening to the community with regards to Saving Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. Nick says;... "I have signed this Pledge because I do, very much believe, that our new pool facilities do belong back in Carss Park and the open recreational playing fields, in Todd Park, should not be sacrificed for the sake of establishing a new regional aquatic centre in that location. I will continue to support the community's best interests on this significant issue, but, I do, however, indicate, that this is my personal view and it is not intended to reflect the view of Georges River Council ."

03.01.2022 . Last night 8 councillors (a majority), voted down the rescission motion which saved the immediate demolition of Carss Park Pool. We have bought more time. Council can not bring in the bulldozers as soon as they have an approved DA for the demolition. They must continue and complete the feasibility studies on both Carss Park and Todd Park first. Councillors were told t...hat it would cost an astonishing $65.3m to remediate the land to the standard required to build an aquatic facility (that’s before spending money on actually building the pool!). Are there any remediation experts who can provide an opinion on this? The community thanks Councillors Landsberry, Payor, Hindi, Wu, Katris, Badalati, Symington and Kastanias for standing firm and supporting the community. This is a small win that buys more time, but the fight to Save Carss Park Pool continues.
