23.01.2022 Throw back to making staves in 2008 with Murrumbidgee Rover Crew

23.01.2022 A great time fire twirling with Bimberi Vennies Scouts Australia (ACT Branch)

20.01.2022 As we all know: depending on your fuel, you will use different methods to douse any fire spill. e.g. water shouldn't be used to put out a kerosene fire. A sand bucket will completely ruin your fire twirling gear, but has been traditionally used as a fire douse for ye olde campfires. In this month's interesting fire science, check out chlorine trifluoride, something you do not want to attempt to put out with a sand bucket.... "The compound is also a stronger oxidizing agent than oxygen itself, which also puts it into rare territory. That means that it can potentially go on to burn things that you would normally consider already burnt ... and gone, and a practical consequence of that is that it’ll start roaring reactions with things like bricks and asbestos tile. " It is, of course, extremely toxic, but that’s the least of the problem. It is hypergolic with every known fuel, and so rapidly hypergolic that no ignition delay has ever been measured. It is also hypergolic with such things as cloth, wood, and test engineers, not to mention asbestos, sand, and water-with which it reacts explosively." "It burned its way through a foot of concrete floor and chewed up another meter of sand and gravel beneath" "For dealing with this situation, I have always recommended a good pair of running shoes. In conclusion: know your fuel before you put out the fire, or you might just make a bad situation worse. More info: http://blogs.sciencemag.org///sand_wont_save_you_this_time

19.01.2022 In today's celebrations, it's important to note that Australia has decided to officially replace 'Merry Christmas' with 'Happy Total Fire Ban', reflecting the flammable nature of Christmas Down Under. Happy Total Fire Ban everyone! *note: satire alert!*... Thanks to Scouts Australia Environment Program for letting us know of the important holiday name change. Remember people: keep your flame on your staff and not in the trees, save your twirling for after the bushfire season is over. See more
