24.01.2022 Nasutitermes Spp... A bit more information for the video below.. There are 5 subterranean termite species in South East Queensland and these guys are sometime overlooked as a destructive termite. ... Nasutes are a multinesting termite, identified by the soldiers head (as seen in the photo) being quite dark with a tapered shape leading to a sharp snout. This species generally only feed on hardwood and is uncommon for these guys to be found feeding on the pine structures of the newer houses being built in the South East.

Back into the full swing of things in the new year and once again we are treating an aggressive species of termite in a 1980 hard wood timber frame infill slab home (yes some termites eat hard wood aswell). Species treated today is schedorhinotermes and a remedial treatment has been carried out to eliminate the activity in the structure before a management system is installed. Termites have caused a lot of damage here and have made it from the ground floor into the top of the roof void.

18.01.2022 Pest Identification - Schedorhinotermes Spp One of the most common species of Termites attacking timbers in South East Queensland home is this one. This species is found throughout Australia and is characterized by having two size soldiers, generally named major and minor soldiers, both different in shape and size. The nesting habit of this species includes in trees, tree stumps, under patios and slabs and regularly in warm places such as under slabs of fire places.... When finding a colony, the findings of either a high or low number of major soldiers can indicate the size and age of a colony, with appearance and abundance of major soldiers indicating a more mature, well developed and strong colony. This species is second in Pest Status in South East Queensland, closely behind Coptotermes and although very destructive, can create extensive service tunnels without causing significant damages If you ever suspect termites, don’t hesitate to contact you local pest controller or SEQ Pest Squad

Client didn’t even realise the termites had built a path in plain daylight across the footpath and across his mesh termite barrier inside his home.
