25.01.2022 It's crazy that farmers have to register and pay annual fees on miscellaneous equipment like quad bikes which in many cases are only used to cross the road to get from one farm to another. https://www.farmweekly.com.au//reform-is-needed-for-vehi/

12.01.2022 WE ARE SHOCKED! A NASTY SURPRISE FOR KIMBERLEY RECFISHERS THIS CHRISTMAS Yesterday, the Government released a very disappointing draft management plan for a... new Marine Park north of Broome in the Buccaneer Archipelago which, if implemented in its current form, would effectively lock recfishers out of 95 per cent of the most valuable fishing waters the islands have to offer. This draft plan openly prioritises the interests of traditional owner groups, who were the only stakeholders the Government worked with when developing it. Recfishwest absolutely recognises and respects customary fishing rights for recognised traditional owner groups and supports collaboration with traditional owners in aquatic resource management, however this cannot be at the expense of every other stakeholder group with vested and legitimate interests in these highly valued waters. The timing of this draft’s plan less than 10 days before Christmas when most people’s attention is focused on the festive break calls into question just how transparent the consultation process for the marine park is going to be. The timing and presentation of a map with extensive sanctuary zones and special purpose zones that lock out recfishers does little to address the concerns that Derby and Broome recfishers already have - that the marine park draft is already a done deal in its current form. We have raised these serious concerns with both the Fisheries and Environment ministers. For what it is worth, they have acknowledged our concerns, extended the consultation period and provided some assurance that the consultation process will be genuine. Early next year, we will get straight in to engaging with local fishers in Broome and Derby and traditional owner groups to propose an alternative management approach that recognises and respects traditional owner aspirations without locking fishers out of large areas of this marine park. We’ll keep you posted how we progress with this engagement, in the meantime you can take a look at what’s being proposed here https://bit.ly/2LJIn9j : Unreel Adventures Broome Fishing Club Broome North Fishing Club Inc.
