25.01.2022 Many people are curious about what we feed our Grey Nurse Sharks. In the wild Grey Nurse Sharks eat a large variety of small-medium sized fish, other small sharks, and rays. At Sea Life Sydney Aqaurium we have to prepare all the food for the animals in the moring. Because our shark dive extreme instructors havent been able to go diving, instead they have been helping out our aquarists with the many tasks to take care of the animlas. This involes defrosting fish and pre...paring it for the animals. We feed our Grey Nurse Sharks mullet, kingfish, and large trevally fish. They usually swallow these fish whole, similar to how they would eat in the wild.

25.01.2022 We love our sharks here at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium and we want you to love them too!

24.01.2022 They may be poisonous, but they are also very cute!!

24.01.2022 A few weeks ago during our live coral talk Ali, one of our Shark Dive Instructors, pointed out a few of our clownfish who had laid eggs! We can see the male clownfish tending to the eggs while the much larger female swims the perimeter protecting the family from predators! Even though Ali cant go shark diving with you today, you can book a gift voucher for Shark Dive Xtreme! Follow this link: bit.ly/SharkDiveXtreme to book your dive today!

23.01.2022 Ned's working from home this week. His main role you ask? Providing love to his "hoomans".

23.01.2022 Recently Sea Life Sydney Aquarium released endanger seahorses at Clifton Gardens. A team of aquarists have been breeding them for over a year now and partnered with researches who tagged the seahorses (the glowing red dots on the sides of the seahorses) so study their population dynamics! We were sad to see our friends leave their temporary home at Sea Life Sydney Aquarium but Scuba Divers in our local community have made several reports that they are settling in well and living in the established "seahorse hotels" we built for them! Great work everyone!

21.01.2022 Most of you know this fish as Nemo! More specifically, this is a Clownfish. Clownfish live in anemones and they have a symbiotic relationship, meaning that each individual benefits in some way from them living together! Clownfish provide nutrients to the sea anemone while the anemone provides protection to the clown fish. You may be wondering how do anenome fish not get stung by the anenome? Well, the mucus coating that covers the clownfish is sugar based and therefore the anemone does not recognise the clownfish as food!

21.01.2022 Who saw our live stream!?!

19.01.2022 In our coral reef tank, we have many anemones that our clownfish live in! They secrete a mucus layer that protects them from the stinging cells of the anemone! Even though we cant be shark diving, at least we get to make some cool new friends around the aquarium!

18.01.2022 We hope our beautiful Grey Nurse Sharks dont mind us diving with some new Sawfish friends in our Great Barrier Reef Tank!! We feed the sawfish using a long stick flat on the ground with a chunk of fish on the end. This allows the sawfish to easily swim over and eat the fish because their mouths are on the bottom of their bodies! Has it ever been your dream to dive with sharks?! You can book your shark dive extreme in advance!! Just follow this link: Bit.ly/SydneySharks

18.01.2022 More dugong fun to be had this week!! One of our instructors, Ali, is throwing Pigs toy around! He loves to splash and pull his toys under the water! Dugongs are mammals but spend their entire life in the sea. They swim by moving their large whale-like tail in an up and down motion. Pig has great motor skills that he practices every day during training! ... Pig gets his energy from his leafy greens! Pig eats roughly 36 kg of lettuce each day! Make sure to follow Sea Life Sydney Aquarium Page for more fun facts and animal content!

15.01.2022 "FEED! ME! LETTUCE!" - Pig the Dugong Pig loves his lettuce and we love feeding it to him! Believe it or not, the closest land relative to the dugong is the elephant. Male dugongs grow tusks when they reach maturity. Female Dugongs also get tusks but these erupt in older females. You can estimate a dugongs age by how many rings that they have on their tusks, just like a tree!
