25.01.2022 As National Volunteers week comes to a close we recognise our frontline service the patrolling members. This season our patrol members clocked up a massive 85...000 hours on the beach (including our lifeguards), on the water, in comms and in the air. We had 304 rescues to date; most of those performed by IRB driver/crew. Out of 445000 visitors to our patrolled beaches over the season only 1300 of them required first aid treatment. Thank you to all of our bronzies, our SRCs, our first aiders and our radio operators for your ongoing support and commitment to patrols. Stay tuned for one more post! #nationalvolunteersweek

24.01.2022 #NCSR2020 // Drowning figures published by Surf Life Saving Australia and Royal Life Saving Society - Australia today show that 248 people lost their lives to d...rowning in Australia in 2019/20. In SA, the figures sadly reveal that 14 people drowned in this state in the last 12 months, including 4 on the coast. Whilst coastal drownings were thankfully down on last year, SLSSA CEO, Damien Marangon, says that no number of drownings is acceptable. Damien, along with our Rescue of the Year Winner, Marley Fairclough, spoke to Channel 9 today to launch the report. They've urged all South Australian's to STOP, LOOK and PLAN when heading to the beach, swim between the flags where you can, never swim alone, don't drink and swim, and of course, look out for your mates. See Marley and Damien discuss the report on Channel 9 tonight at 6:00pm You can access the full National Coastal Safety Report here: https://issuu.com/surflifesavin//ncsr_2020_rgb_issuu_final #drowningprevention #watersafety #NCSR2020

17.01.2022 This morning Surf Life Saving SA launched a new program with long time corporate partner Westpac, which will see additional drones put into service this summer.... This announcement follows the South Australian Governments funding last year to establish SLSSAs drone capability and pilot training. The program will enhance our existing fleet of drones by giving volunteer surf lifesavers more eyes in the sky at patrolled beaches. It complements Westpacs 14 year partnership with South Australias Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service, which last season completed a total of 49 missions and logged almost 200 flight hours. The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Drones will be operated by trained surf lifesavers as part of a mobile patrol unit, providing additional support from the sky for locations along the Metropolitan and Southern Coast and the Fleurieu Peninsula. Equipping surf life savers with accurate aerial vision and surveillance technology, the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Drones can be rapidly deployed, relay vision with pin-point accuracy to spot rips, marine creatures and distressed swimmers, and sound an alarm to let swimmers know if there are potential dangers in the water.

The father and son tragically lost their l...ives on Easter Sunday performing a heroic rescue. As a mark of respect for our fallen lifesavers, President of Life Saving Victoria Paul James ASM has asked if we could assist in paying tribute to our comrades by wearing red this Friday 3rd May. It would be a great sign of solidarity if we could support this request from our fellow lifesavers in Victoria and wear something red Thank you to Billy Jackson from Brighton SLSC and Jim Dale from West Beach SLSC who are travelling across to represent SLSSA members and State Centre.
