24.01.2022 Class 3 have been working with the stories of the Hebrews. Traditionally, this is the year of the Nine-Year-Old (Rubicon)Crossing, and is marked by the children's experience of separation from the 'Paradise' of their childhood dreaming. These powerful stories of the faithful resolve of the Israelites teaches that we can overcome all obstacles, no matter how vast and overwhelming they might appear. While it might seem that that whole world is going through its own Rubicon crossing, the children of Class 3 have adapted to the changes and continue to inspire the adults around them. Here are some samples of their work. Ramana Dean - Class 3 Teacher

23.01.2022 What has football to do with Plato? No - he did not play soccer - but Class 8 does find out about the truncated-icosahedral-ball in their Main Lesson, "Platonic Solids." The content is as much philosophical as it is geometric: the class learns precision, perseverance, and integrity through the careful construction and of the five Platonic Solids and the investigation of their attributes - both physical and esoteric - by drawing, building and modelling them in their books, ...through their appropriate tessellated nets, and in clay (this last being attained through transformation from form to form). The Main Lesson teaches the benefits of care and patience - a little bit off, and the whole drawing or model will just not come out right - as well as the importance of purposeful thoughts, without which, the work won't come together. The class also learns the allegorical significance of these forms as well. Plato taught that each represented one of the four fundamental elements (fire, air, earth, and water), with the fifth being the 'unknown' element (aether), and that each embodied the virtues characterised by that element. In former times, these were taught by the constructions being carried out in chalk, charcoal, and clay (as there is nothing as 'honest' as chalk; nothing as 'fervent' as charcoal; nothing as 'zealous' as clay); the forms and their allegorical interpretations having been part of the Western knowledge framework since Plato, 2500 years ago. In our own day, the forms find their place in modern computer programming logic, whereas their allegorical lessons have never left us. - Nik Sakellaropoulos, Secondary & IB Maths/Year 6/7 Latin

23.01.2022 Last term Year 9 worked on their genre's of music research tasks. Ted did a presentation on 60's and 70's UK rock era, while Sulia did one on the 1930's swing bands. 11.01.2022 Onsite staff and children have been busy bees in the school garden! Last term there was a lot of cutting back and weeding, and the Aftercare group's garden bed is now flourishing with flowering broad beans, leeks, spinach and garlic. The group ate the abundant rainbow chard and spinach in their toasted wraps and soups, as well as roasted potatoes that were abundantly unearthed. Ramana Dean led the work on the garden bed extension and the Aftercare children planted Lomandra ne...ar the far pool fence for future weaving activities. ESS teacher Leia Wren is planning for her Year 11 & 12 IB students to make garden preparations like soil bacteria mixed with comfrey and different organic fertilisers to bring a range of nutrients to the garden in Term 4. The neighbouring sheep have thankfully consumed all the flowering nettles and mowed the walking path on their side of the garden! See more

They are also discovering French eating and dining habits. Bon Appétit! Clotilde Berryman - French Teacher (Middle School & IB)

04.01.2022 https://publish.exhibbit.com//024187/marble-gallery-34192/ This exhibition showcases the achievements of current Year 12 Visual Arts students in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) at Sophia Mundi Steiner School. Each student curated their own walls in the space, presenting highlights of their work produced during the two-year course. They utilised an extensive range of medium and styles including drawing, acrylic painting, gouache and water colour, d...igital photography, ‘reclaimed material’ sculpture and installation pieces. Our students built on existing skills and techniques taught throughout the Steiner curriculum, and in their IB focused practice, presented both traditional and contemporary approaches to art making. Through their artwork, students addressed and communicated an extensive range of personal and global issues expressing commentaries on ethics, nature and personal identity. ________________________________________ For more information about our two year IB Diploma Programme visit our website, or contact the Registrar ([email protected]) for IB enrolment options.
