25.01.2022 Wow! The last 7 weeks have flown! We are in our final week of a wonderful term. Our classes have been smaller & we have changed the way our studio work flows to adjust to the new normal. We have welcomed enthusiastic students to join us and start on their path of learning. It seems lock down has gotten many of us thinking about how we want to spend our time. Creativity and learning new skills are ranking highly . We couldnt agree more and are so grateful for our workshop sanctuary at SquarePeg . ARIS IOANNOU-MARSH is a Sydney-based designer and maker working across the disciplines of jewellery, interiors, ceramics, photography and installation. Through material explorati...ons of form and texture, Ioannou-Marshs work explores the body and its relationship to structure through scale. With an early exposure to the worlds of architecture and fine art, Ioannou-Marshs work continues to be informed by the built world around him, and its contrasting influence provided from nature. Sculptural structures are played against organic textures to explore the strength and beauty of one another. Ioannou-Marsh creates objects which are designed to relate directly to their user, and are designed to change with wear over time. His work is imbued with a narrative discourse on this bilateral relationship between object and wearer. 07.01.2022 Here is another beautiful work! This gorgeous braclet was made by @co.yuuu last term in our Beginners Class. Read below to learn more of the special story behind this piece . Cong carved the charms in her own time and focussed on chain making in class. Well done Cong! We love your work! My grandfather is a legend. Hes the smartest person Ive ever seen, and a family man with love deeply engraved in his heart. When I was a little one I remember grandpa can repair almos...t everything, from kids toys to household appliances, he has magic, I suppose. He passes his passion of handcraft with an eye for details to my dad and me. I made this chain bracelet with charms to celebrate grandfathers life and the culture where I rooted. The charms are inspired by the shape of Nverhongs(a type of Chinese yellow wine, loosely translated as Daughter in Red) jars. Grandpa was born in Zhejiang province, it happens in Zhejiang that traditionally Nverhong would be kept buried until daughters wedding. Grandpa brought 3 bottle when I was born, one to celebrate when I get into college, one for my wedding, and one for my childs birth. Unfortunately he left us before we open the first bottle. Time flies. Now Im thousands miles away from my wine and family, unsure about future and lots of things, but I know hes with me every time I pick up a tool or sign on the dotted line. See more
