25.01.2022 Great to see competitive events starting up again! Check out the event info and get involved!

24.01.2022 2020 has been a challenging year for all, with widespread change from pandemic conditions. It is with immense pride that in the face of all this, we announce that SSAA NSW membership has hit 57,000 law-abiding shooters! Our great sport continues to grow in these unpredictable and extraordinary times a testament to our dedicated members, volunteers and staff. We hope you will join with us in welcoming all of our new members to SSAA NSW!

22.01.2022 ( ) - Recently, SSAA NSW lodged a detailed submission to the NSW Government Legislative Council Upper House Inquiry, regarding the proposed Firearms and Weapons Legislation (Criminal Use) Bill 2020. The Bill, if introduced into legislation, would have significant unintended consequences for law-abiding firearms owners.... From the beginning, SSAA NSW has communicated with Members and sought feedback. We have been overwhelmed by the numerous responses outlining concerns regarding the direct impact of the Bill (if passed) on shooting activities and chosen disciplines. We thank you for partnering with us in advocating for all law-abiding firearm owners. The lodgment of the submission is just the start of this advocacy process. SSAA NSW has been engaging within the political process and will soon outline the next steps that will involve all Members. The full submission can be found here for your perusal: https://www.ssaansw.org.au//SSAA%20NSW%20-%20Firearms%20an We are also pleased to announce that SSAA NSW has been invited to provide submissions and advice on other reviews. SSAA NSW will always advocate for our Members and all law-abiding firearm owners without fear or favour. This process has united us all and it is great to see everyone pulling together. Your assistance is greatly appreciated and will help us fight against unintended consequences to our great sport. , - , - ,

21.01.2022 Daylight Savings resumes tomorrow! Remember to get ahead of it...

21.01.2022 Following the COVID-19 NSW lockdown period earlier this year, SSAA NSW branches and affiliate clubs have gradually reopened and incorporated new pandemic procedures and guidelines for the safety of all members, volunteers and staff. The ongoing efforts of the SSAA NSW community to support the shooting sports during these unprecedented times has been inspiring to all and our membership continues to grow.... We would like to take this opportunity to encourage our members to revisit their local range and re-establish their sports shooting practice. Many competitions have resumed and ranges have implemented individually tailored COVID-19 safety plans so that all may safely attend and participate in their sport. Getting involved again at your local range is an important contribution to our great sport and our hard-working community. In early March, SSAA NSW advocated on behalf of all members in anticipation of escalating issues surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, we wrote to members with regards to the Firearms Amendment (COVID-19) Regulation 2020 . This amendment provides for a 12-month extension to the attendances reporting period for 2020-2021 (now 2020-2022), allowing for ’ , - . Additionally, an exemption for the reporting year that finished in March 2020 has also been included. While this exemption/extension no doubt provides relief to many of our members, we remind everyone to remain aware of their requirements for the 2020-2021/2022 reporting period. We encourage all members to continue completing their attendances and avoid leaving their requirements until the end of extended reporting period. Last minute attendances in the January to March period in a normal year will be significantly more challenging due to restricted numbers and physical distancing as well as the possibility that the ongoing COVID-19 situation could restrict access to ranges or even close ranges in the event of an escalation. As your Peak Association, we will continue to advocate for our 57,000 members and provide an effective and credible voice on behalf of all law-abiding firearms owners.

19.01.2022 The widespread effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are ongoing. As a result of government restrictions, events have been postponed and cancelled across Australia to contain the spread of the virus for the safety of all. SSAA NSW and SSAA National value the safety of our members, volunteers and staff above all else and have previously communicated the postponement of the SHOT Expo at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse. ... In conjunction with SSAA National and the promoter of the event, we now announce the cancellation of the SSAA SHOT Expo. This is due to a lack of certainty around a solution for the virus, as well as the ongoing advice from government and NSW Health. With no foreseeable resolution to the pandemic and some state borders still closed, there is no guarantee that the government will allow an event to go ahead with 20,000 people in one venue. We cannot predict when we could reinstate plans for the next SSAA SHOT Expo. The cost to stage the SHOT Expo is in the range of $500,000 to $600,000. SSAA NSW and SSAA National take the management of the Association’s and members' funds seriously. Making this decision now avoids significant financial loss due to last-minute cancellation. We thank our members and industry partners for their patience and understanding as we manage the impact of this pandemic on the SSAA SHOT Expo and our Association, as a whole. Although this is not the outcome anyone wanted, we will use this time to work towards a bigger and better SSAA SHOT Expo in the future.

09.01.2022 LATEST UPDATE ON COMMUNITY SPORT SSAA NSW along with other sporting organisations has received a letter written by the NSW Chief Health Officer from the Office of Sport this evening. The information we have received indicates that due to uncertainty in the continually changing health environment, shown below are new recommendations for community sport that have been advised by Dr Kerry Chant, Chief Health Officer, NSW Health. ... Please implement the following updated public health recommendations: Cease activities that result in the mixing of participants and staff from different regions, for example by ceasing zone, regional or state championships or competitions. Cease any activities that result in overnight stays (e.g. multi-day training camps) due to increased risk of COVID transmission in residential-type settings with shared facilities. Cease face-to-face social activities relating to community sports (e.g. award ceremonies, end-of-season social gatherings, post-training group dinners). Avoid carpools or bus travel with people from different household groups where possible. For local activities, limit spectators to one parent only, where the child requires parental supervision during the sporting activity. Sporting organisations are requested to commence implementation of these recommendations by Wednesday, 19 August and it is anticipated that they will be in place for the next six (6) weeks. At this stage, community sport may be able to continue as it is currently being implemented providing that it does not require inter-regional mixing, including activities which bring together participants (including spectators and officials) from organisations in different regions of Sydney, from a rural area into a metro area and vice versa, and movement between different rural areas. It is essential that all community sports organisations have a COVID-19 Safety Plan in place and are fully compliant with their plan. NSW Health continues to monitor the situation throughout the State, and the Office of Sport and Sport NSW will communicate any future recommendations, changes to COVID-19 Safety Plans or Public Health Orders that impact community sport. Thank you for your support in helping to keep community sport COVID-19 safe. SSAA NSW as a law abiding organisation will follow the advice from the Chief Health Officer and is communicating with Branches this evening over the matter. Please remember some ranges are owned by SSAA NSW, some ranges are leased and operated by SSAA NSW Branches and some ranges are utilised by SSAA NSW Branches but are managed by third parties. As a result, please be check with your local range / Branch as to how it may impact at your local range. SSAA NSW will continue to provide updates as they come to hand. Jai Rowell CEO - SSAA NSW
