25.01.2022 TUESDAY JACKPOT We ALMOST made it through both games but the rain was making some players cold so we went inside a bit early - and the sun came out! Of course it did! Among the 24 present were Mal Lohrey and Russell Brown from Scottsdale and we were able to play 2-4-2! There were four teams with two wins: cousins Peter and Barry Le Fevre +4; Angus Greig and Tony Pickett +7; Russell Brown and Rodney Stagg +9; and the winners, Diane Harris and Big John Vincent +15. Di also won the Lucky Number card - sounds like a reason for a party! The $300 jackpot is still there - it might get stale - you'd better come and try for it! The more the merrier.
25.01.2022 SUMMER FUN ....
24.01.2022 SOME RESULTS LAST THURSDAY ..... was a great day for some of our young at heart octogenarians: Brian Harrison and Henry Green won the day with two wins and +21 and Kevin Harrison took out the lucky number card. Woohoo! Go you good things! TUESDAY JACKPOT It was great to have a visit from old friend Chris Holt who dropped in for a catch-up and stayed to watch 'the action' as twenty-seven bowlers enjoyed themselves on our lovely green. Peter and Julie were back after a few... weeks away and Ian Williams was on the right side of the hill to join the fun. Only two teams came through unscathed: Leonie Mitchell and Angus Greig +5 were pipped by Lindsay Harris and the irreverent Man from Malahide, John Vincent +21. The Lucky Number card was won by Peter Mitchell AND the $300 jackpot went off again, shared between two teams on lucky number 8: Richard Freeman, Tony Pickett, Barry Salter (second week in a row!) and Peter Mitchell (again!) We have another $300 pot built up and ready for you! Come and try for it - all welcome. See more
24.01.2022 TUESDAY JACKPOT Yep! We played ... damp to start with and brilliant sunshine to finish. The weather sorted out who are the fair-weather bowlers, and only eight ( I SAID ONLY EIGHT!) stalwarts turned up. There were no two-game winners and the result came down to ends: Brian Harrison and Peter Mitchell (+4, 9 ends) lost to Dom Puget and Rex Williams (+4, 10 ends). Thrilling stuff! The numbers for the jackpot were 2, 4 (two teams) and 5 - the number which came up was 6! Thrilling stuff! What this means is that the Tuesday Jackpot is still there - calling you - come and play for it! All welcome!
23.01.2022 SOCIAL BOWLS UPDATE AND CLUB NEWS TUESDAY JACKPOT 15/09/2020 A great turn-up of close to thirty players, including Ian Birtwhistle (North Hobart and Lindy Howell (Bucks) and Lindy's legendary dad, Doug Cole. There were four teams with two wins: Angus Greig and the Man from Malahide +5; Su Van Den Heuvel and Alan Dow +5; new treasurer Dom Puget and Gilbert Browne +6; and the winners: Peter Mitchell and Barry (Pudd) Salter + 17. This was a remarkable win as we are unaccusto...med to seeing Pudd in the skip's role - obviously he has been hiding his light under a bushel! The jackpot is still waiting for you to swoop! THURSDAY CHICKEN RUN There were 26 players enjoying the bowls and the company at the club. Rodney Stagg is back again and Cindy and Graeme Walsh from Scottsdale also played. We welcomed Charlie from his boat in Moulting Bay for his first game ever and he had great fun. Two teams won both games with a margin of +10: Leonie Mitchell and Bill Napier and Brian Harrison and Linda Freeman, but they were eclipsed by Lindsay Harris and Greg Webb who scored + 21. Bill Napier won the Lucky Number card. IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR MEMBERS 1. No Saturday Jackpot bowls on Saturday 19th September. 2. Lost Log v Scottsdale on Sunday 20th - please be at the club in uniform by 9.45 to welcome our visitors at 10.00 3. The Club Calendar has again been revised after further changes to the Bowls North Saturday Pennant roster. Make sure you throw away previous editions. 4. The pennant availability list is up -is you name on it? If not, why not? :)
22.01.2022 TUESDAY JACKPOT We had a great turn-up yesterday with previous member, David Harris, turning up out of the blue. Not as unexpected but nonetheless welcome was the variety of Vincents (Tristan, Toby and Georgie) who accompanied their pater, Big John for some friendly family rivalry on the green. There were four teams with two wins: Jane Pickett and Gilbert Browne +4; Brian Harrison and Henry Green +15; Leonie Mitchell and Rodney Stagg +19; and the vociferously vocal winners, Toby and John Vincent +29. Richard Freeman won the Lucky Number card. The $300 jackpot is still waiting for someone to swoop, despite the fact that Toby just kept pressing the button! Come and try for it!
20.01.2022 TUESDAY JACKPOT PAIRS Quick report this week. Twenty-four playing in great spirits and great weather. Winners: Diane Harris and Peter Mitchell. Lucky Number card - Su Van den Heuvel.
19.01.2022 THURSDAY JACKPOT For the first time in a number of years there a was an all male turnout at St Helens! Many thanks to those who stepped in to allow Madam P a day off in the gorgeous sunshine! Only one team managed two wins: Norm McCullough and Tony Pickett had +5. Greg Webb won the Lucky Number card and the jackpot started its slow climb after being won last Thursday.
19.01.2022 THURSDAY JACKPOT It's definitely 'slip, slop, slap!' weather in St Helens and we are enjoying great playing conditions this week. Yesterday we were very happy to have lively Life Member Norm Brook back on the green. His opponents are of the opinion that he should be swabbed as he showed very consistent form. There were two teams with two wins: Richard Freeman and Bill Napier had a very solid +26 but that wasn't enough to steal the show from Barry (Pudd) Salter, Kevin Harr...ison (in sterling form) and the evergreen Henry Green who notched up +31 and demoralised their opponents! Eric Pearson won the Lucky Number card. We were all lucky that Irish Norm brought his marvellous ginger and Guinness cake to share and the luckiest of all were Liz Jansen and Peter Mitchell because they took out the jackpot of $204! As two of Henry's 'victims', this windfall somewhat mollified their pain. See more
18.01.2022 Oh. My. Goodness! We are still sooooo busy! We had 30 players on the green this afternoon, including Rodney Treloggen - returning social playing member, and Mal Lohrey and Russell Brown from Scottsdale. There were four teams with two wins: Lindsay Harris and Angus Greig +6; a dead heat for second (AKA no prizes!) - Julie Keane and Rodney Stagg +15 and Leonie Mitchell and Bill Napier +15. Close, but no cigar. The winners were Brian Harrison, Richard Freeman and, in her d...ebut victory as skip, Diane Harris! +17 WOOHOO! Rex (Junior) Whittaker took out the Lucky Number card, much to the chagrin of Rex (Senior) Williams. The jackpot of $300 is still there - tantalising - waiting for you! We are heartened by the number of members who are stepping up in recent times to offer help and skills - what a lucky club we are! Remember to register interest for: LOST LOG v Scottsdale at St Helens on September 20th OPEN DAY and PRESENTATIONS 2019-20 - September 27th Entries for Club Championships are open! See more
18.01.2022 TUESDAY JACKPOT Another fabulous turnout today - 28 players (Madame P miscounted! - sorry) and there was very little wins and all sunshine - believe it, Craig Bennett! We welcomed David Prior, Mal Lohrey, and regulars Cindy and Graeme Walsh. Two teams had two wins: Eric Pearson, Greg Webb and Graeme Percy + 14 were pipped by Lindsay Harris and Barry Le Fevre +15. Lindsay also took out the Lucky Number card - a happy bonus! Massive thanks to Bill Napier who has been working ...hard on a project in the kitchen. And great news for us - we have appointed a new Treasurer and are thrilled to welcome Dom Puget to the Committee. We are looking forward to the KAANDOO Pairs carnival this Saturday. The draw and COP have been published on the Facebook page. Any questions, please call Jane on 0458420842. See more
17.01.2022 THE SAGA OF THE LOST LOG 2020 Last Sunday we hosted 22 great friends from Scottsdale Bowls Club for our traditional annual pre-pennant friendly to see where the Lost Log will reside for the next 12 months. Uneven numbers from the two clubs saw the extras from St Helens playing pairs while the pre-pennant grudge match went on. Early in the day, we thought it had been decided that the loser of the pairs would represent Scottsdale, but at some stage our honourable selectors ch...anged that idea ...... which proved to be fatal, as it turned out. At lunch time, St Helens was ahead by about 7 shots. After lunch, the pairs-playing four were swapped so that everyone had a turn at trying to beat Scottsdale and a coin was tossed to see which of the pairs would be 'them'. At the end of the day, counting the scores from the rinks of fours, St Helens won by 2 shots BUT the 'Scottsdale' pair had a decisive win which put the away team over the line by 6 shots. This means that the Lost Log remains on the beach side of the Weldborough Pass for another year. We had a great day - it's always a great day when Scottsdale are here. The lucky number cards went to Ashley Morrell and Patsy Marshall, playing her last game on the home green before swanning off to work in the Northern Territory - we will really miss her! The raffle board prizes went to Greg Webb (whisky) and Norm Brook (IGA voucher donated by Patsy Marshall). Thanks to everyone who played with such good sportsmanship and heckling. Thanks to everyone at St Helens for the afternoon tea contributions and especial thanks to Liz Elizabeth Jansen and Leonie Mitchell for soups; Diane Harris and Patsy Marshall for sandwich construction; and Lorraine Webb and Ashley Morrell for 'manning' the kitchen and clearing away. Thanks also to Gilbert browne, Greg Webb and Ian Williams for organising our teams for the day. Look out next year! See more
16.01.2022 TUESDAY JACKPOT Great numbers again this Tuesday and we played in increasingly blustery conditions, with hats and mats in danger of flying away towards the end. There were three teams with two wins: Dom Puget and Tony Pickett +9; Brian Harrison and Angus Greig +15; and the winners, Jane Pickett and Gilbert Browne +17. Lorraine Webb took out the Lucky Number Card and the $300 jackpot went off for the second consecutive Tuesday. The lucky number was 2 which meant that Barry Salter, Henry Green and Rex Williams shared the loot. There are still 2 more pots of $300 up for grabs on Tuesdays - will another go off next week? And will you be there to try for it? Hope so. All welcome!
14.01.2022 THURSDAY SOCIAL BOWLS Today we welcomed Michael Eiszele (Rosny), Phil Hamner (Sorell), Lindy Howell (Bucks) and Ian Birtwhistle (North Hobart). There were 27 of us in total .... nearly enough for 2/4/2 .... There were four teams with two wins: Greg Webb and Linda Freeman +6; Leonie Mitchell and Graeme Percy +13; Su Van den Heuvel and Henry Green + 25; and, the winners - Tony Pickett and Barry Le Fevre +37. Henry was not happy about missing out on a prize but made up for it ...by winning one of the Lucky Number cards. The other was won by Eric Pearson. WEDNESDAY TRAININGS We are delighted that a few of our senior bowlers are turning up to practise with our juniors on Wednesdays. We are also delighted to welcome a new Junior Pelican to the club: Jacob McLennan. He has joined in beautifully with Paige and Marshall and is showing great improvement. All welcome! See more
14.01.2022 TUESDAY JACKPOT There were 24 bowlers on our beautiful green on Tuesday. We were lucky that the high temperatures were softened by a sea breeze and everyone had fun. There were four teams with two wins: new member Deb Williams and Greg Webb +5; Barry Le Fevre and Henry Green, continuing their winning form from the Fours +8; Su van den Heuvel and Bill Napier +10; and the winners, Lindsay Harris and Peter Mitchell +15. Mitch has his bowls on a string at the moment - we are thinking about getting his magnets checked! The Lucky Number card was not drawn. The meat raffle was won by Di Harris with Su van den Heuvel took out the wine for second prize. The jackpot stayed safe and is heading up towards the $300 cap. Come and try for it - all welcome!

13.01.2022 TUESDAY JACKPOT Wacko! Another brilliant day at St Helens with 33 bowlers out there strutting their stuff - and playing bowls as well :) Remarkably there were five teams with two wins: Lindsay Harris, Leonie Mitchell and Rex (Jnr) Williams +3; Diane Harris and Greg Webb +6; Richard Freeman and Tony Pickett +10; Phil (Doc) Bramich, Peter Le Fevre and Jane Pickett +19; and the comprehensive winners, Peter Mitchell and Alan Dow +34. Two Lucky Number cards were drawn and they were won by Richard Freeman and Linda Freeman, no relation - just good friends :) The jackpot is sitting there. In fact there are two lots of $300 sitting there, just waiting waiting waiting for you to swoop!
13.01.2022 CLUB TRIPLES ROUND 1 Played in stunning 'twilight' (5 p.m.) conditions, we had two very exciting matches in Round 1. The teams of Leonie Mitchell, Peter Mitchell and Graeme Percy versus novice Liz Jansen, Bill Napier and Tony Pickett were running neck and neck throughout their game and went into the final end at 14 all. The Pickett combination were lucky enough to come away with a 2 shot victory in a hard-fought match. In the second game, Lex Weekes, Henry Green and Terry Go...wling took on the reigning champions Lindsay Harris, Diane Harris and Jane Pickett. This Pickett combo led all game, winning 11 ends to 7, but were holding their breath as their opposition won 4 out of the last 6 ends and added multiples to their score. Diane, Lindsay and Jane were happy to put their last skip's bowl into their collective pocket and take the game by 1 shot. Thanks to our clubmates who came to watch. Afterwards, almost the players had a convivial reviver and lots of loud bowls chat. This is how championships should be. ROUND 2 - Wednesday 25th 5.00 for 5.15 T PICKETT V J PICKETT J VINCENT V G WEBB Bring it on! :) See more
12.01.2022 WEDNESDAY TRAINING SQUAD We have gained some new youngsters and have a few adults joining in as well. It's great to see some of the mums bowling beside their boys - well done Kathryn McLaughlin and Keren Kelleher. Newcomers Thomas Kelleher and Hayley McLennan did very well, catching up quickly with their older siblings, Alex and Jacob. Marshall McLaughlin was Junior Bowler of the Week and Su Van Den Heuvel, one of our senior juniors, won the Single Bowl Skins after a near flawless training session. Keep up the good work, everyone. See you next week.
12.01.2022 THURSDAY 'CHICKEN' RUN Twenty-nine players. Rinks full. Happy people. Good bowls - well some, anyway! :) An indeterminate number of two-game winners ...... those who were there will understand. The winners were Julie Keane and Bill Napier +26. Rex Junior (Whittaker) won the Lucky Number card.

10.01.2022 SATURDAY JACKPOT Cooler conditions and family commitments saw a smaller number of die-hards in warm clothes bowling at St Helens on Saturday. Jillian Weston and Ian Williams were back on the right side of the hill - perhaps they brought the cold with them from Lilydale! It certainly didn't seem to affect them as both featured in the two winning teams: Jillian teamed up with Greg Webb and Peter Mitchell to score +9 but they were beaten to the prizes by Ian and Rodney Stagg +24. The Lucky Number card was not drawn and the jackpot is still building, building, building ..... PLEASE NOTE there will be no Jackpot Pairs next Saturday (August 29th) because of the KAANDOO PAIRS CARNIVAL. Jackpot Pairs will be played on Sunday 30th at 10.00 instead. All welcome.
10.01.2022 CARNIVAL UPDATE Due to a withdrawal, there is a place for one more team in this event. Please note the dates - Monday and Tuesday (holiday).
09.01.2022 Oh. My. Goodness! How busy we have been! ... no reports since Tuesday last week! Sorry everyone. Especially sorry as I cannot remember who won all those games! I think anyone who has rocked up to St Helens Bowls Club in the last week five days will confirm that they have had a great time and that it is a friendly fun place to be. The BIG event in that time was the ST HELENS KAANDOO PAIRS CARNIVAL on Saturday. What a great bunch of people and what what fun we had! (Much el...se is a blur!) It was this president's first time at hosting a time on/time off carnival - learning all the time! And massive thanks to Michael Sweeney and Rae Simpson (those who have been about a bit!) for lending their experience to guide us through the planning. The top five results were: 5th: Bob Cain and Heather Thompson (Longford/East) 4th: Barry Le Fevre and Gilbert Browne (St Helens) 3rd: Jean and Rob Claridge (Scottsdale) 2nd: John Dennis and Greg Webb (Scottsdale/St Helens) WINNERS: Tony Pickett and Bill Napier (St Helens) AGAIN! LUCKY LOSERS: Shaz Hyland and Peter Whiteley (Cressy) LUCKY NUMBER CARDS: Richard Freeman and Julie Murfett (Latrobe) RAFFLE WINNERS: Gareme Walsh (Scottsdale) and Julie Murfett (Latrobe) AND THEN ..... on Sunday, we had twenty-six players for Saturday-on-Sunday Jackpot! Thanks so much to our carnival players who contributed to that fun and made it a real event for some of our regulars ..... especially in the gale force winds! Barry (Pudd) Salter actually got blown over! Bowls results: three teams with two wins: Paul Elsby (Kings Meadows) and Jean Claridge (Scottsdale) +6; Lindsay Harris and Peter Mitchell +7 (St Helens); and the winners: Julie Murfett (Latrobe) and Rob Claridge (Scottsdale) +12. The Saturday Jackpot went off! - to Phil (Doc) Bramich (South Burnie) and Richard Freeman (St Helens). Lucky Number cards were won by Brian Harrison and Tony Pickett. THANK YOUS - to Greg Hotchkin from KAANDOO DESIGN CENTRE, ST HELENS for his on-going support; to Lorraine Webb, Ashley, Mitchell and Flynn Morell for keeping the troops fed on Saturday; to Tony Pickett and Bill Napier for getting the green ready; to Ian Blades for giving his time to work behind the bar; and to all the other club members who have chipped in here and there to make things go smoothly! NEXT WEEKEND: the Armed Bowlers Triples Carnival! WOOHOO! See more

09.01.2022 THURSDAY JACKPOT Beautiful sunshine and great company made jackpot bowls fun for all at St Helens today. Three teams had more fun than others as they had two wins! Life members Barry (Pudd) Salter and Gilbert Browne combined for +3; Su Van den Heuvel and Bill Napier had +8 but Rex Williams and Tony Pickett had a convincing win with +22. Some good news stories: another member has gained his RSA qualification - thanks to Richard Freeman; another junior turned up at training last night and did so well he was named Junior Bowler of the Week - well done Alex Kelleher; and our Irish Norm is returning to St Helens to live and has rejoined the club. Hooray! A reminder to all pennant players of the Bowls North ruling that you must provide your own afternoon tea food and hot drink on Saturday. 12.15 roll-up. Please be at the club by noon.
08.01.2022 CLUB TRIPLES CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINALS Played in warm and windy conditions, this round was, sadly, not nearly as exciting as the first round as both games were rather one-sided. 2018-19 Champions Dom Puget, Barry Le Fevre and John Vincent defeated Su Van den Heuvel, Rex Williams and Greg Webb. Last year's champions Lindsay Harris, Diane Harris and Jane Pickett were soundly beaten by Liz Jansen, Bill Napier and Tony Pickett. The final is scheduled for Monday afternoon at 2.00. Spectators welcome.
08.01.2022 THURSDAY JACKPOT A few stayed away today, put off by the squally weather and occasional thunder but good fun was had, as usual. Only one team scored two wins: Brian Harrison and Graeme Percy +9. The jackpot is still building and the Lucky Number card was not drawn.
08.01.2022 TUESDAY JACKPOT Twenty-five bowlers challenged themselves and each other at St Helens this Tuesday. It's definitely sunscreen weather on the east coast! Lots of good things - We wished staunch Life Member, Gilbert Browne, a very happy birthday for Sunday and presented him with his Super Veteran's badge. We celebrated the start of pennant careers for Su Van Den Heuvel and Liz Jansen and measured up Rodney Treloggen for his club uniform. We are pleased to have a group of stu...dents from our local school back on the green each Tuesday this term and we are delighted to welcome back past member, Lex Weekes. There were only two teams with two wins: Su Van den Heuvel and Jane Pickett + 13 were pipped by Arthur Weigand and Tony Pickett +28. Let's hope Tony shares his prize! :) The Lucky Number card was won by another Life Member, Barry (Pudd) Salter. A friendly reminder to members and visitors. Please carry your bowls shoes to the club rather than wearing them. We are trying to reduce the amount of grit being brought on to the green. See more
07.01.2022 Things have been quiet on the publicity front but hopefully bulletins will be more regular now that Nanny duties have finished for a while and recovery has commenced! :) The club members made the most of a home game and enjoyed a wonderful Christmas break-up barbecue before the break in the season. Social bowls continued spasmodically but we are now back into our regular pattern of Tuesdays and Thursdays. One noticeable point is that Tony Pickett has featured as a winner,... with various partners, four out of the last five days of play. Two jackpots have also been won! Club games have continued ...... Club Fours championship been decided. Rex Williams, Liz Jansen, Jane Pickett and Gilbert Browne made a very poor start, being down 17-5 after 8 ends. Green's Grenadiers played very consistently in all positions and, despite a very strong finish by Browne's Battlers (12 shots in ends 21-24), managed to hang on for a well deserved victory. Congratulations to this year's Club Fours Champions: Barry Le Fevre, Rodney Treloggen, Peter Mitchell and Henry Green. Club Singles - this championship is into the quarter-finals round with one match left to be played (Basil Whittaker v Jane Pickett) before the semi-finals on Monday 18th January. Leonie Mitchell, who was in fantastic form going into her match, fell victim to the Bill Napier steamroller. Henry Green lost to John Vincent. The match of the round thus far was between Graeme Percy and Tony Pickett. While this was expected to be a close match, spectators were a little surprised when Pickett did not score until the seventh end with the score at 10-1. Percy bowled very consistently and intelligently throughout the whole match but Pickett managed to hold his nerve and get back into the game so that the score going into the last end was 24-22 in Percy's favour. In the deciding end, Pickett scored the necessary 3 and gave a huge sigh of relief as he progressed to the semi-finals. It was a great game to watch. Pennant resumes this week with both sides away to Beauty Point. See more
07.01.2022 RESULTS RESULTS RESULTS ...... Far out! There is so much going on - regular jackpot games, singles, fours ...... oh, and pennant! MONDAY John Vincent defeated Greg Webb in their Round 2 Singles match. TUESDAY JACKPOT Blazing sweltering hot day. Four teams with two wins: Dom Puget and Graeme Percy +4; Brian Harrison and John Vincent +10; Leonie Mitchell and Henry Green + 20; and the winners, Richard Freeman and Tony Pickett +31. Lucky number card was won the irreverent J...ohn Vincent. Jackpot number 1 ($300) stayed safe. Jackpot #2 still building. WEDNESDAY - FOURS SEMI-FINALS In the morning in freezing weather, Rex Williams, Liz Jansen, Jane Pickett and Gilbert Browne defeated the highly fancied team of Lex Weekes, Ian Blades, Graeme Percy and Terry Gowling. In the afternoon Leonie Mitchell, Ray Firth, Greg Webb and Tony Pickett lost to Barry Le Fevre, Rodney Treloggen, Peter Mitchell and Henry Green. FINAL: Browne v Green - date to be announced to fit around everyone's Christmas commitments. THURSDAY MORNING Graeme Percy defeated Terry Gowling in their Round 2 Singles match. THURSDAY AFTERNOON JACKPOT Stinking hot again! Twenty-one players, including three brand new social playing members - welcome to Debbie and Michael Williams and Dick Crocker. All three acquitted themselves very well, especially Debbie and Michael who stepped up for their first game ever, having decided on the 'jump into the deep end' approach to starting their bowls careers. Norm McCullough and Peter Mitchell, definitely the most colourful pair on the green, had two wins for +6 but they were outdone by Lindsay Harris and Gilbert Browne who both bowled beautifully all afternoon to achieve +21. John Vincent (in absentia) won the card again - everyone was just delighted for him! The jackpot stayed safe and is building back up to a respectable amount. SATURDAY PENNANT All players please remember we have an early start at 12 noon - be at the club by 11.30 please. Christmas barbecue to follow after the game. SUNDAY SINGLES 9.15 roll-up T Pickett v G Percy J Pickett v B Whittaker L Mitchell v B Napier H green wins on forfeit by J Vincent SUNDAY AFTERNOON Singles semi-finals See more

06.01.2022 SATURDAY JACKPOT Gorgeous day today after heavy rains and cold weather yesterday. We were blessed! Gotta love springtime :) We played triples today and there were two teams with two wins: Brian Harrison, Henry Green and Rodney Stagg +7 were pipped by Peter Mitchell, Linda Freeman and Jane Pickett +14. The Lucky Number card was not drawn and the jackpot of $268 did not go off - lots of cash to be won at St helens. Will you try for it? Tomorrow we celebrate our champions of 2019 - 2020 at our combined presentation and opening day. Looking forward to it. :)
05.01.2022 TUESDAY JACKPOT Wow! We had a great day! We welcomed Jan and Cindy from Scottsdale (Cindy left Graeme on the farm working!)and were very happy indeed to see the return to the club of Taelyn Male (ex-St Helens junior - now at Burnie)(and his partner Kayla). A serendipitous draw saw Taelyn teamed up with his old coach, Brian Harrison. The weather was sensational and exceptional bowls were played on several rinks. There were three teams with two wins: Barry Salter and Tony... Pickett +8; Brian Harrison (guru) and Taelyn Male (apprentice! ha!) +17; but they were pipped by the Man from Malahide and his exceptionally gorgeous son, Toby, +18 - this was their second consecutive Tuesday Jackpot Pairs win! Thank heavens Toby is heading north again - we don't want JV getting ideas above his station! The Lucky Number card was won by stalwart Gilbert Browne. The raffle was won by Jane Pickett with Bill Napier taking second prize. The $300 jackpot stayed safe again - even though we tried for it twice! See more
05.01.2022 St Helens Bowls Club has had the absolute pleasure of hosting the Inaugural Bowling Arms Triples Carnival this weekend. This event grew out of a serendipitous chance conversation between friends .... "Our national championships have been cancelled" led to "Well, why don't you have a carnival down here?" and so they did, after lots of work and consultation between members of the Bowls Tas Bowling Arm Committee and the Club, largely driven by Ian Williams. We met a great bunc...h of people and saw some wonderful bowls played. All regions were well represented, with members from the following clubs sporting their colours: Trevallyn, St Helens, Cressy, Geeveston, Huonville, Cosgrove Park, East Launceston, Latrobe, Penguin, George Town, Smithton, Scottsdale, Ridgley, Wynyard, South Burnie, Ulverstone, Kings Meadows, North Hobart, Devonport and Lilydale. It was, literally, pretty to watch! Fundraising coordinator, Jillian Weston, ran a multitude of raffles to raise money towards the Nationals next year with all prizes having been donated. Day 1 Winners were: Ian Morley, Will Briggs (raffle board); Lyn Zadow, Jilly Weston, Mike Gaffney, Joe Reissig, Kevan Gaffney (major raffle); Adrian Coomber, Kerry Booth (Lucky Number cards). Day 2 Winners were: Gordon Hurst, Kerry Booth (raffle board); Geoff Munro, Peter Whiteley (twice), Helen Wyker, Colin Shipton, Viv Coad and Barry Sonter (major raffle; Shaz Hyland and Noel Carlon (Lucky Number cards). Many thanks to all those who donated prizes for the raffles. As is usually the case with carnival events, the lead changed a number of times across the two days of play. The top two places were decided in the final round of the event. RUNNERS-UP were Joe Reissig, Ruby Walsh and Geoff Buchanan (8 points/19 shots up/ 29 ends). WINNERS were Barry Le Fevre, Tony Pickett and Ian Williams (8 points/22 shots up/30 ends). The random draw for LUCKY LOSERS was won by Ray Firth, Kerry Booth and Adrian Coomber. It was a wonderful team effort from those St Helens Club members who contributed to the organisation and running of the carnival. Thanks to: Ian Blades, Leonie and Peter Mitchell, Graeme Percy, Henry Green, Jane and Tony Pickett, Su Van den Heuvel, Diane Harris, Liz Jansen, Jillian Weston and Ian Williams for helping to make things run smoothly. From the host club point of view, we thank all the competitors for supporting the event and bringing great sportsmanship, camaraderie and fun to our club and community. We hope you will visit again soon.
05.01.2022 THURSDAY SOCIAL BOWLS The very best thing about this day at bowls was the return to play of Life Member, Norm Brook. We were all delighted to see him, although the opposition team members whom he beat think he must have been fudging about his health! There were four teams with two wins and three of them included life members. Norm teamed up with Angus Greig +3;Brian Harrison and Bill Napier (LM) had +7; Eric Pearson and Tony Pickett scored +10; but the winning combination was Barry (Pudd) Salter (LM) and the redoubtable Henry Green +20. Linda Freeman won her second consecutive Lucky Number card. With the beginning of pennant imminent, next Thursday will become a Jackpot day switching from Saturdays for the rest of the season.
04.01.2022 CLUB TRIPLES CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL Two strong teams met to decide the Triples Championship for this year: an experienced and strongly-bonded team of previous champions - Dom Puget, Barry Le Fevre and John Vincent - took on the new combo of novice Liz Jansen and old stagers Bill Napier and Tony Pickett. The game was a great contest with JV's team taking an early break founded on steady lead play by Dom. Throughout the match the lead see-sawed and for much of the time there were ...only one or two shots either way. In the dying ends the Pickett combination picked up seven shots across three ends and managed to draw away for the victory. Congratulations to Liz on her first championship win and to Tony and Bill - this year's Triples Champions. It was great to have almost every other player who has competed in this championship there to watch the final and support the players. Fantastic club spirit. See more

02.01.2022 TUESDAY JACKPOT Another day of perfect bowling weather with great mates at St Helens. There was only one team with two wins: Dom Puget and Tony Pickett +13. Barry Le Fevre won the Lucky Number card and one of the $300 jackpots finally went off! The lucky pair was Norm McCulloch and Rex Whittaker. Our Tuesday raffle was won by Richard Freeman who took out the $25 voucher from Skippers Fish and Chips - thanks very much to Anita and Lex Weekes for their support in donating this prize. Second prize was won by Julie Keane - she opted for chocolates. There's another $300 waiting in the jackpot - come and try for it.
02.01.2022 THURSDAY SOCIAL BOWLS There were 27 keen bowlers on the beautiful St Helens Green on Thursday. Conditions were BREEZY to say the least but as the Scottsdale contingent was absent, we lay the blame on the broad shoulders of Mike Shingles - it was obviously a sea breeze from George Town. Along with Michael we welcomed Doreen White, Jill Bell and Dick Jansen from George Town (they could share the responsibility!) and Scott Booth from Sandy Bay. There were three teams with two wins: Brian Harrison and Barry Le Fevre +10;Phil Bramich and Alan Dow +11; and the winners, Peter Le Fevre and Ian Williams +18. Two Lucky Number cards were drawn and the winners were Rodney Stagg and Ian Williams. These cards are great for our club - they pay for our cleaner and for our junior development program. Thanks, everyone, for your contribution!
