25.01.2022 Be kind. Be mindful. Be there #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #lesson #wellbeing #astitchintime #selfcare

25.01.2022 Like all natural things, we were never meant to stay the same. We change, we evolve, we grow. In a world that profits off our desires to be younger, thinner, filtered versions of ourselves, and that is itself changing rapidly, change within us can feel frightening. We cling onto habits, behaviours, and people that feel familiar - even if they are no longer serving us. Now especially, with so much going on in the world, it may feel tempting to revert to old behaviours... or to resist any change that might bring further uncertainty. Remember: an unknown future is always preferable to being stuck somewhere you don’t belong. This is a challenging time, and we all owe ourselves a bit more compassion and patience right now. We must keep growing - even if it feels uncomfortable. Sending you strength to face whatever this next week throws at you. Keep going. We’ve got this #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #selfcare #anxiety #selflove #love #depression #motivation #health #mentalhealthmatters #wellness #mindfulness #psychology #mindset #recovery #wellbeing #strongertogether See more

23.01.2022 As much as we like to receive compliments, it’s equally important to be willing to give them. If you have a positive thought about someone, tell them. It might make their day. 23.01.2022 Lastly, we facilitated workshops across 27 organisations and Local Governments educating individuals and organisations on what could be done to prioritise Mental Health. 22.01.2022 INTERNATIONAL MEN’S DAY We’ve grown up in a world and country that conditions men to disconnect emotionally. Men are told to man up, toughen up, harden up and get on with it because ‘that’s what a man does’!... Men are conditioned to disconnect emotional because showing vulnerability, emotions and crying are seen as ‘weak’! The ‘be a man’ narrative has been regurgitated for decades and it’s killing men & putting many more into life threaten situations! At what point do we say ENOUGH?! At what point do we start to accept that men are emotional creatures who are born emotionally expressive but we are conditioned to disconnect emotionally as we get older because of gender and the flawed expectation that men should be unemotional. Without emotional connectedness, emotional intelligence, an emotional toolbox and the confidence to tap into all of our emotions we limit our ability to deal with emotional stress. There are a lot of men in pain who are hurting and barely hanging on, shit scared of what others will think if they ask for help or show emotions. These men need our love, our support, safe spaces to step into and be encouraged to talk and they need hope. We must change the narrative. See more

22.01.2022 THE THRIVING TEACHER 2020/21 Deputy Principal of Forrest Crescent Primary, Jessica Sandhu, was kind enough to share a few words on our Thriving Teacher Workshop. I thoroughly recommend the Thriving Teacher professional learning. It’s rare for teachers to be able to spend time on actually looking at their own well-being as we always have the students front and centre. This PL allowed us to look at what we are doing for our own mental health and gave us some great tips in ...helping us to restore a work, personal life balance. Teachers in a positive and mentally healthy space makes for better teaching and learning for students. Thank you Marny and Greg. Great insights on helping us be at our best. Thank you to Jess for the kind words. If you or your school is interested in our staff presenting THE THRIVING TEACHER workshop please drop us a note. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #education #wellbeing #selfcare See more

21.01.2022 Anyone who courageously deals with a mental health condition knows success doesn’t look like a life of riches and luxuries, but more essentially a home, a healthy and loving relationship, and a career that supports you. But what we haven’t heard much of is from those of us in the middle. It’s easy to feel alone in your struggles and pain when you don’t fully resonate with the people and stories around you. A greater sense of comfort can be found in that very specific kind of comradery. Just know that they are those that are struggling and that’s it’s not always sunshine and rainbows. There’s a middle. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #strongertogether #mentalhealthawareness #education #wellbeing #wellness

21.01.2022 *** A STITCH IN TIME & INSPIRED MONEY JOIN FORCES *** We are extremely honoured and grateful to be partnering with Inspired Money. Through this partnership ten sporting clubs/organisations will complete a 4-Tiered Mental Health & Wellbeing Program which will educate participants in the importance of mental health & wellbeing, foster positive psychological wellbeing, and provide participants with a suite of tools and techniques that can be utilised to increase resilience ...in times of disruption and change, and assist in their own personal growth & development. Speaking on the partnership, Co-Founder and Director Conrad Francis said, Greg and the ASIT Team are doing an amazing job with the resources they have. Given the financial impact caused by mental health and wellbeing issues we just wanted to help them reach more people. In Australia, one in five people are impacted by mental health conditions, with almost four million Australians suffering from a chronic or episodic mental health condition every year we, at Inspired Money, there needs to be a focus on supporting and improving mental wellbeing and preventing the root causes that lead to mental health conditions. Approaches to promoting mental wellbeing and reducing mental health conditions need to be seen as both essential and should be complementary and we see this partnership as an opportunity to help tick both of these boxes. Thanks again to Inspired Money for their support and head to https://stitchintime.org.au//inspired-money-a-stitch-in-ti to find out more #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters #StrongerTogether See more

18.01.2022 Sometimes in our efforts to support someone, we may not fully acknowledge what they are going through or offer genuine validation. More often than not this is because we’ve never had verbal support modelled to us or because we are uncomfortable making space for someone else’s struggle in that moment (maybe we are struggling ourselves). We’re not suggesting that saying you can do it! is bad or should never be said but we want to encourage us all to pause and be intentional about how we support one another. Just because a statement is positive it doesn’t mean it’s always supportive. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #gratitude #selfcare #wellbeing #wellness #health #education

14.01.2022 Are you looking to educate members at your sporting club/organisation on the importance of Mental Health? One aim of program evaluation is to use the findings to improve a program. 14.01.2022 We think it’s important to talk about mental health more collectively because it affects us all, regardless of who we are and where we come from. We have to raise our voices loud enough to silence shame. We must strive to be more empathetic because shame cannot thrive where empathy lives, and we can only do this by inviting each other into our stories. We’ve been here long enough to know that change can only come when we decide to stand together and try to build spaces that... are safe for everyone. Whether it be our own journeys with depression and anxiety, or our passion for mental health advocacy, we know that these battles are not fought alone. We might not win today, but if we choose to stand in this moment with each other, we can continue to walk towards a world where hope and help can be a part of each of our journeys. There is no other way to be in this, but together. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #lesson #wellbeing #astitchintime #selfcare See more

09.01.2022 NAIDOC Week 2020 Today marks the beginning of 2020 NAIDOC Week celebrations and events, 8-15 November, a time when we come together to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. ... NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations people 65,000+ year history of this country - which is Australian history. Always Was, Always Will Be. The 2020 National NAIDOC Poster, Shape of Land, was designed by Tyrown Waigana, a Noongar and Saibai Islander man. Tyrown’s artwork tells the story of how the Rainbow Serpent came out of the Dreamtime to create this land. It is represented by the snake and it forms the shape of Australia, which symbolises how it created our lands. The colour from the Rainbow Serpent is reflected on to the figure to display our connection to the Rainbow Serpent, thus our connection to country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside the shape of Australia is a representation of Indigenous Australians showing that this country - since the dawn of time - Always Was, Always Will Be Aboriginal Land. 08.01.2022 Sometimes the hardest part of checking in with someone is coming up with the right questions. We are all programmed to ask how are you? or how are you feeling? and although these are perfectly lovely questions chances are, the responses will be just as generic and automatic. Asking alternative questions can help the person pause and reflect on how they are doing and connect with us in a way that would enhance deeper understanding.

08.01.2022 Life isn’t easy, but there is so much good that I am we can be thankful for: Countless loved ones support us through our most dire moments; passions and hobbies remind us of things to look forward to; the natural world reminds us that we are a small paint stroke in a much larger picture. We place our hope in these and more, and while it’s not an immediate or cure-all fix, it does put things in a new perspective. Sometimes life threatens to crush us, but we don’t have to succumb to it. We all have a strength that is rooted in hope, in silver linings and possibilities. #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealth #mentalhealthweek #strongertogether #wellness #education #wellbeing #health

07.01.2022 Mental health is a state of overall wellbeing that we can draw on throughout life. And if there was ever a year when we needed positive mental health, it was 2020. That’s why it was so special to be recognised by the Western Australian Association for Mental Health for preventative work in the mental health sector last night. A special mention goes to Alanna Clohesy MLC for her interest and support of the work of A Stitch in Time. We look forward to more robust conversations and future collaborations with the McGowan Government, where we can together, make an enormous impact in the mental health and wellbeing space for West Australian people. Promotion of mental health and wellbeing using evidence-based tools and techniques provided to the wide community, has never been so important.

02.01.2022 Is it possible that you’re actually doing better than you think you are?! On days when we feel like we will never get where we are going, we remind myself of our year old selves. We recount where we’ve been and it gives us hope for where we are going. When we start to discount who we are and what we can do, we remember that we’ve survived and accomplished things we never thought we could. We remember that the life we are living now was once a distant dream. 01.01.2022 Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas full of all the things that are really important in life. In what has been a difficult year, Christmas is a special time for most, but unfortunately for so many, it’s quite a difficult time.
