19.01.2022 Many people misunderstand STOP the BLEED. FACT CHECK: Stop the Bleed is a campaign (NOT a course) which is lead by the US Department of Defence. Since its release, certain companies, associations and organisations have rallied to create their own training course. The US DOD then merely issues an agreement for organisations and individuals to use the logo and words, STOP the BLEED. In some countries, exclusive agreements are provided to protect an organisations investment in d...esigning and delivering their course including working with government agencies for change. In other countries, some well-known organisations/associations approve trainers online based simply on their profession and ignore the fact that these individuals may have NEVER obtained any formal education on the use of an arterial tourniquet, haemostatic dressings wound packing or suitability as an educator (ie. Athletic Trainer, Veterinarian, Pharmacist). The process is to apply online, download the course material then go teach something you have never been formally trained to do. As professional educators and paramedics, we strongly believe that this type of system should NEVER exist. If we are going to provide quality education to those first on scene, then we should do so in a way that maximises the responders success in saving a life. Instructors without any formal education on the use of an arterial tourniquet, haemostatic dressings and wound packing for the civilian setting should go and obtain formal training - its called professional development people. One other thing - using a pool noodle as a tourniquet simulator provides ZERO education value whatsoever. We provide training and education to individuals in the hope of saving lives, and that is something we take very seriously.
