24.01.2022 Exciting news! One of the Sea Lion stick insects has evolved! He has changed from brown to green and grown what look to be wings! He is quite large now, spanning a whole hand and moving much quicker than his two younger friends. We have been caring for these 3 for a while now and it is wonderful to see them grow and change!

23.01.2022 Our flexible indoor/outdoor program with a shared yard means that siblings have the opportunity to see each other, sharing and making some beautiful memories

22.01.2022 Bravehearts White Balloon Day is Australias largest campaign dedicated to preventing child sexual assault and exploitation. As a community its important for us to help break the silence and protect all our children.

22.01.2022 Loose parts play - Definition a type of play that supports invention, divergent thinking, problem solving and offers a sense of wonder to children. They are materials that can be moved, carried, combined, redesigned, lined up, and taken apart and put back together in multiple ways. What better way to do this than construction? Check out our outdoor loose parts play in the unders yard.

22.01.2022 Staying positive during these uncertain times

21.01.2022 Friendships support happiness, well-being, self-confidence and a sense of belonging

21.01.2022 This week we look to place the spotlight on National Child Protection Week, with the theme. "Putting children first". NAPCAN - Play Your Part invite all Australians to look at how they can prioritise children in their lives and communities and to engage in National Child Protection Week as individuals, and as part of families, organisations, communities and society. Putting children first means prioritising the safety and wellbeing of children. To grow up well children need to feel safe and loved, have a chance to play and explore, have a say in decisions that affect them, and access to essential things like food, shelter and healthcare. #childrights #childprotection

21.01.2022 Please remember from tomorrow you need a mask to enter.

20.01.2022 Science week in Sea Lion room has seen us engaged in a different experiment each day! Today we made a play-doh volcano and watched it explode This experiment demonstrates the classic chemical reaction between an acid and a carbonate. When exposed to acids, carbonate undergoes a decomposition reaction in which carbon dioxide is released as a gas! Wow!!

20.01.2022 Today we pause to remember those who gave their lives in service to their country, those who returned home injured or ill, and those who bravely serve our country today.

19.01.2022 The children in the jellyfish room created our own salt dough decorations to decorate our Christmas tree with the help of the starfish children today we were able to put the decorations onto the Christmas tree

17.01.2022 Starfish (3-year-old kindergarten) children are amazed by how bioluminescence works in marine creates. To learn more about this, we replicate the qualities of bioluminescence using glowing jelly and glowing artwork. Lets make and eat some glowing jelly! (recipe attached) To make your glowing art, youll need highlighters. Colours that work best are green, yellow, pink and orange highlighters. Usually, blue, purple or red highlighters dont glow, but you may get lucky with ...some brands. Enjoy and comment below your amazing experiences after trying!

17.01.2022 STEAM learning with recycled resources, inspired by kinder children’s much loved book Press Here. Kinder children coded a song with recycled jars using different colour counters to indicate the sequence, exploring the scientific concept : adding different amount of water to the jars causes the vibrations (sounds) to change.

17.01.2022 Our kindergarten children discovered the bottom of soft drink bottles looks like our back teeth (check it if you have a soft drink bottle at home!) In celebration of dental week (3/8/2020-9/8/2020), kinder children then engaged in moulding the bottom of soft drink bottle with plastering mix to create molars. When the teeth are ready, together we set up a dentist play area where children observed their teeth in the mirror, engaged in dentist role play, removing cavity, practised teeth brushing skills with our home-made molars and extended their vocabulary such as names of different teeth and different parts of the tooth.

09.01.2022 As part of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander National Childrens the Dolphin room have a Family Kinship Tree outside the front of our room. The family is a very important part of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, it enables children to learn who they are related to, and who they belong with in their community. As with Being, Belonging, and Becoming. We have extended our Family Kinship Tree to all children and staff of the Story House Lara community, to put their own leaf with their name on it on our tree.

We offer such diversity and provide such a multicultural society that it’s part of the unique qualities about Story House. When working with young children, it’s important to create an understanding that all families have their own traditions, beliefs and cultures and we should treat each other with respect and kindness. This creates an inclusive environment for families, educators and our community
