23.01.2022 Have been unable to squats the last 5 or so weeks due to an ankle injury. So It was nice to move around a little bit of weight today, even if it’s only in a limited range of motion. . Box Squats: 2 x 8 @90kg 2 x 8 @100kg... . Performed some 2 foot plyometrics before this to prime the body and finished the session off with some high time under tension split squats and pallof presses. See more

20.01.2022 HIP HINGING . As most of my clients would know, my favourite way to teach the hip hinge movement is through the Top Down RDL. I like this movement because it allows the client to start with their spine stacked on top of their hips in a neutral position. . Often people with a low training age have a tendency to load their spine incorrectly when attempting to lift a barbell off the floor, so by setting up a bar in the squat rack at about mid-thigh height it allows the client to... start the lift in a much safer position whilst they learn the proper motor control to perform a proficient Deadlift/RDL. . Another reason why I like this movement is because it allows you to train a range that is specific to your ability and mobility. Some people will begin by only going 1/4 of the way down, whilst others will go all the way to the floor. . 07.01.2022 OVERHEAD PRESS VARIATION: . My injury has forced me to find ways to train without putting too much load on my ankle. The Barbell Seated Overhead Press is a great variation for anyone looking to progress towards using a barbell but aren’t yet confident in going straight to a standing strict press. .... How To Set Up 1. Place a bench in the middle of the rack just slightly back from the two uprights 2. Grab a pair of spotter arms and set them up at a height that would be just below your collar bone whilst seated on the bench 3. Place a barbell across the barbell across the spotter arms, take a seat and get pressing. . The appeal to this variation compared to a Standing Press or a Z Press is that it allows people to focus more on their trunk tension, not allowing themselves to fall into excessive lumbar extension. The use of the spotter arms also make it a much safer exercise especially when placing down the bar at the end of a set. . Hope some of you find this useful. 05.01.2022 OPEN GYM It’s been a while in the making, and we’re very excited to share that we’re revamping our Open Gym offering over 3 stages: STAGE 1... Effective July 28 Expanded Open Gym access times to include when classes are running. Book a spot on the MindBody app to utilise Open Gym while a class is running. Spaces are capped to ensure there is no negative impact to classes. We’ve moved some equipment around in the gym in anticipation of additional floor space and equipment that will form part of stages 2 and 3. These processes are stepping stones to a permanent 24/7 gym in addition to our existing facilities of Vice & Motion. Open Gym is $20/week, with no contracts. Add a casual class for $10 any time. 04.01.2022 SMARTER, NOT HARDER Results take work, there’s no escaping that, but doing more and pushing harder isn’t always the key to success. Balancing movement patterns..., energy systems and the stresses of the rest of our lives are all relevant influences on our degree to which we hit our goals, but the relationship between success in our fitness and our other endeavours share something of a symbiotic relationship. This means that sometimes less work and more rest is our best bet! When we’re firing on all systems as a result of our investments in our health, we are giving ourselves every chance to live to our fullest outside in the real world
04.01.2022 Our famous yellow door won’t be opening tomorrow. With increasing Covid-19 cases and impending government restrictions we feel it is our social responsibility t...o act proactively and close our doors for the time being. This decision may be one that we overturn at some point, realising we acted prematurely, but we would not be upset to come to that conclusion. Memberships will be suspended tomorrow.
