23.01.2022 Some things we can still do, some things we cant! We can all still ride our bikes. Not everyone can get to the surf coast trails but we hope everyones getting a chance to turn the legs over one way or another. There are a few things that are on hold: working bees, social rides, trips to the Anglesea Bike Park. Wed like to give an online hug to all of our members / supporters, most of whom are in either stage 3 or stage 4 restriction areas. Were here with you, hope you a...re keeping well and encourage you to get out and exercise "within the rules as part of your approach to staying physically & psychologically healthy during this period. For those in regional areas, can you travel to the surf coast trails to ride? As many will be aware, this is a question that was hotly debated in the first round and we cant provide a specific answer. There are currently no specific guidelines in relation to travelling to exercise for stage 3 restricted areas analogous to the 5km radius specified for stage 4. Below are the guidelines given by the DHHS around exercise in regional areas. These will inevitably be interpreted in different ways and may change over time. As a club, we encourage all of our members / supporters to maintain a healthy level of exercise in a safe and sensible manner. Please exercise within the current recommendations with a focus on being safe in all aspects of that and not looking for loopholes in the rules to exploit. Above all, we wish everyone well through this next period and look forward to getting back into a "more normal position very soon. Take care, stay safe, stay positive! From the DHHS Website for regional areas: "Can I leave the house to exercise outdoors? Yes. You can leave your home to exercise outdoors in a public space, either alone, with members of your household or with one other person outside your household. You should use the parks and public spaces which are closest to your home. This includes walking, hiking, bike riding, surfing, kayaking or yoga in the park. To help slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), you cannot travel to metropolitan Melbourne to exercise. While exercising with a person outside your household, you should keep at least 1.5 metres distance from them and others.

23.01.2022 The first two lucky winners of some SCMTB merch are @kayla_spin & @goldengilson. We will be in contact to organise a time to pickup your prize. The next random draw will be in two weeks. 23.01.2022 Today was our women’s ride and we met at The Distillery Creek Picnic Ground in Aireys Inlet. We had 15 women today and rode the Currawong Falls Loop and then Teds Secret. It was about 18km and 400m elevation with an opt out point at the 12km mark. We had many from previous rides as well as some first timers. We then finished up with lunch at the Aireys Pub. These rides are free for members and are aimed at getting more women out on bikes. They are no drop and no one is lef...t behind. We aim to have enough ride leaders to be able to split our groups so that those who want to can go fast and we always have a sweep rider to help those at the back. Our ride leaders have first aid qualifications and some of them are MTBA level 0 coaches. If you would like to be involved, become a ride leader or just join our rides get in touch. We welcome everyone. Thanks to all the amazing women who came today and thank you ride leaders - without you these rides would not happen.

23.01.2022 Planned burn Fraser Ave precinct for tomorrow. Trails running at the back of the golf course between Messmate Tk and Coogoorah Park will be affected.

22.01.2022 Theres rain on the horizon . If forecast deluge eventuates, wed love it if you could give the single track a break. Lots of recent trail work could be quickly undone riding very wet trails . Thanks @scottnicholas27 for the pic.

21.01.2022 We are now on Strava. Please search for SCMTB in the club section to join up.

21.01.2022 What a WE! Its likely that Hurst Rd trailhead will be bursting at the seams today & tomorrow so please be mindful of others & vegetation when parking. Weve been working with Parks & Surf Coast Shire on creating more car parks but theres no quick fix. Remember theres plenty of other places to start. Anglesea township or the bike park both guarantee downhill finishes woohoo! If parking near scout camp entrance please ensure youre outside of the arch & dont block the entrance. Or check out the smaller car park that holds 6-8 cars off the GOR between the chocolate factory & Forest Rd (next to the permanent electric travel time sign) - just be mindful that its a 100k zone. Happy trails!

15.01.2022 Two of our regular vollies Luke Farrar & Kevin De Leenheer giving their time for the trails. This year has seen unprecedented demand for the local trails. Our survey last Sunday saw close to 100 riders coming through Hurst Rd from 8am - 12noon. So good to see so many getting out on their MTB's. But increased usage requires increased trail maintenance particularly with regards to trail drainage. The majority of this is undertaken by a small group of riders willing to give a little back. Our next working bee is Sunday Nov 29. If you don't receive working bee emails but would be happy to go on the notification list, please send us an email: [email protected]

We split into 3 groups - 1 beginner group and 2 intermediate groups where we were able to stop and session some rollovers and technical climbs. We finished up the day with coffee and ice cream at the local chocolaterie. Thanks to all our ride leaders and to all the amazing women who attended today. It was a friendly and supportive group with a great vibe. We are looking... forward to the next ride where we will be joining with the GMBC girls again for the Christmas Special on December 20th at the You Yangs. Here are some photos from our ride today. 14.01.2022 Not the greatest weather today but a pump track like this would still ride well! Surf Coast MTB member Naomi Daly has been working hard behind the scenes to have such a pump track included into councils plans for Erskine Paddock near the swing bridge. To get up, the project needs community backing. Naomi has set up a survey to gauge that demand. If youd like to support the project, head to her website https://lornepumptrack.weebly.com and click on the "Act Now" tab to complete the 5 min survey.

13.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there. Perfect day to hit the trails . #jumpdontroll #endurotopscoming #surfcoastmtb

We had 5 members enjoying the sunshine and explored some of the lesser known trails to create a great add-on loop to the more popular Hurst Rd trails. With a membership ranging from 5-69 years old, its great to see all ages taking advantage of appropriate rides to be involved.
