25.01.2022 Tara on Tour. Missed out on second by a bee's doodle.

25.01.2022 Our new roller and mower turned up today. This was all made possible thanks to the support of Shell-QGC. Our dedicated, talented and might we say voluntary green-keeper Jim Smith is modelling the new gear.

25.01.2022 Christmas will come early to the Tara Bowls Club this Friday night with Chef Mark preparing a feast for a King. There will be baked ham, roast chicken, fish, roast vegetables, salads galore and pavlova for dessert. Served buffet style all for only $20 per person.

24.01.2022 Don't forget there will be meals at Club this Friday night. Mark and Nicole will be cooking up a storm and serving out the buffet from 6pm.

24.01.2022 Tara Bowls Notes The Club was busy over the weekend with a great crowd in on Friday night enjoying the great meals supplied by Cliff and Karen from the Tara Café. There was no championship bowls played, but social bowlers took advantage of the great weather to have a game both Saturday and Sunday afternoons. ... The AGM for the club is going be held at 11am on Saturday, August 29, 2020. Members are requested to attend. The Club is going to push ahead and complete Championship events this year, so keep an eye on the board for upcoming games. In "A" Grade Singles John Smith is to play Mike Llewellyn, and Jim Smith and Craig Ensbey need to do battle as soon as possible. Just a reminder the Club is open from 4pm on Wednesday through to Sunday, with meals, raffles and members draw on Friday evenings. Condamine District Notes The last round of the First Division "Blue Pennant" will be play over a double-header at North Dalby and Dalby this coming weekend. Mathematically, Chinchilla and the combined TJT are still a chance to take the flag, but from here it looks like it is Dalby's to lose as they take a commanding lead into the last six games. Upcoming dates are - Round 1 of the Red & Green Pennant Competition, CDBA AGM 16 August at Chinchilla 30 August, "A" Grade Singles CoC 3 October at Taroom, Group 3 Pennant Play-Offs 26 September at the winner of the CDBA and Group 3 Singles play-offs 17 October at Chinchilla.

24.01.2022 The "A" Grade Pairs final will be played this afternoon at 1pm. Jim Smith and Mike Llewellyn take on defending champs Matthew Prain and Dan Collins. Should be a cracking game.

24.01.2022 Sorry 21st feb. Tomorrow night

23.01.2022 Tara Bowls Notes A busy weekend at the Club with Tara hosting Chinchilla in Green Pennants and the Club holding it’s AGM also. Thanks to those members who attended the AGM last Saturday. Congratulations to John Smith who was re-elected as President. The Club welcomes Pop Wilson as Patron after Frank McNamara stood down after many years of service, Lyn Punton as Ladies Games Director and Mike Llewellyn has come on board as Providor. Hopefully 2021 is a good year for the Club....Continue reading

Please note the club will be shut this Friday for a private function. Nominations for championships are now open. Please put your name on the board by 15 November in order for the draws to be done for 2021.... Full and Social Memberships are now due also. Please remember the Club is open Thursday through to Sunday from 4pm.

22.01.2022 Tara Bowls Club Notes Sadly this will be the last bowls notes for the foreseeable future as the Club is now in lockdown due to the Carona Virus. There was some Championships played over the weekend which was nice to see in these uncertain times.... In "A" Singles, three of the four Semi-finalists have been decided now after two games on the weekend. Jim Smith and Lenny Wright played a great match, with Jim having a 8 - 4 lead early before Lenny hit the front and lead 11 - 8 after 10 ends. From here Jim started to find a bit more consistency and rattled home to take the win 25 - 14 in 23 ends. The other match saw defending champ Matthew Prain take on Pop Wilson. In a mirror image of other game, things were close after 10 ends with Matthew holding a slender 10 - 9 advantage. Pop was having success on long ends, so a change in length saw Matthew collect 16 straight shots over the next seven ends to take the match 26 - 10. The "A" Grade Pairs the grand-finalists have been decided with Jim Smith and Michael Llewellyn to play Matthew Prain and Dan Collins. Both teams qualified after semi-final wins on Sunday afternoon. Jim and Michael had a cracking game against John Smith and Cliffy Brauer with John and Cliffy fighting back from 12 - 5 down after 11 ends to get within a shot with two ends to play only to drop five shots on the penultimate end to end their run in the competition, Jim and Michael played some great bowls to take the win 23 - 15. Earlier in the day Jim and Michael had played Laurie Boardman and Simon Spencer, recording a 27 - 10 win, but not before Laurie and Simon fought back from 13 - 1 down to only trail 10 - 14 after 15 ends. The other match saw Matthew Prain and Dan Collins come up against Lenny Wright and Billy Russell. The first 10 ends of this match could not see either team gain an advantage, with the scores locked at 10 - all. From here though Matthew and Dan began to build some better heads and gradually pull way before picking up 12 shots in three ends to run away in the end, recording a 32 - 14 win. CDBA Notes Congratulations to Kathy Obst and Jim Donnelly who took out the Association Mixed Pairs event in Chinchilla last weekend with a victory over Billy George and Jeanie McCormack in the final. All further District Bowls events are postponed due the advice of the Federal Government.

21.01.2022 Sorry No Meals Friday Night the 21st AugustSorry No Meals Friday Night the 21st August

21.01.2022 Apologies for the lack of correspondence over the past few weeks. There has been plenty going on around the place with weddings, teams travelling away for carnivals at Meandarra and Charleville, Presidents Day at Miles and the odd worm being drowned by a few trying to catch a fish. Weather pending, things will ramp up this Sunday with three grand finals to be contested. In the morning the "B" Singles final will be played between Simon Spencer and Andy Gunther. This should be... a very interesting match, and very hard to pick the winner. At the same time defending champs Jim Smith, Cliff Brauer, Bill Russell and Peter Matthews will take on Matthew Prain, John Smith, Dan Collins and Jim Moran in the final of the fours. Again, this should be a very close match, and might just come down to who has a bit of luck when needed. After lunch Matthew, John and Dan will team up in the triples and will play Lenny Wright, Andy Gunther and Simon Spencer. Lenny and co. caused an upsets of sorts in the semi-final, and will be looking to do the same against the reigning CDBA Champion of Champions in the event. Just a reminder that memberships are now due and that nominations for the 2020/21 bowling season can be put on the board so the draw can be done. Unfortunately the kitchen is still closed on Friday nights since the departure of our caterers. If anyone is interested in this position, please be in touch with the Club. None the less, the drinks are still cheap and cold, and we are open from 4pm Thursday to through to Sunday.

21.01.2022 Meals are on once again tonight at the Club. Asian inspired dishes, chicken and beef schnittys and the good old kiev are all on the menu. Great value meals!

20.01.2022 Tara Bowls Notes Not a lot of action on the greens at the Club over the weekend due to some rain on Friday night, and again Saturday. Well done to the Green Pennant team, Lenny Wright, Cliff Brauer, Dan Collins, Pop Wilson and Audrey Cann, who travelled to Meandarra last Sunday for the opening round of the competition. Meandarra bounced out of the blocks and recorded two comprehensive wins in the pairs and triples matches in the morning, but to their credit the afternoon resu...Continue reading

18.01.2022 A big Sunday of bowls just gone with three championships being decided, rounding out what has been a disrupted bowling season to say the least. Simon Spencer was crowned the "B" Grade Singles Champion after he accounted for one of the Club's newer members in Andy Gunther. Simon has played a fair bit of bowls both in Tara and down at the Tweed, and he used this experience on a green that was a little steady to work his way into the game. A run of 10 straight shots over six en...ds opened up a handy 18 - 8 lead, and when Simon scored consecutive three's on the 20th and 21st ends, the match was all but over with Simon leading 24 - 9. Andy picked up a couple more shots, but the damage had been done, with Simon claiming the title. At the same time, the Four's Championship was being decided between defending champions Jim Smith, Cliff Brauer, Bill Russell and Peter Matthews against Matthew Prain, John Smith, Dan Collins and Jim Moran. After fours ends adjusting to the green, Matthew's team got on the front foot and picked up 12 unanswered shots to race to a 15 - 2 lead after nine ends. Three single shots over the next three ends gave Jim and Co. a glimmer of hope, but on the back of some great lead bowls from new bowler Jim Moran, Matthew's team were able to capitalise on having more bowls in the head to power away to record a 26 - 6 victory when Jim conceded after 18 ends. After a quick lunch break Matthew, John and Dan headed back out to defend their Triple's Championship against Lenny Wright, Andy Gunther and Simon Spencer. And it was the challengers who got off the the better of the starts, getting out to a 6 - 1 lead early on. By the 9th end however, Matthew's team had regained parity, and pushed on to open up a handy 17 - 8 lead after 12 ends. As can be the case in two bowl triples, momentum can quickly shift, and on the back of some great bowls from Andy and Simon, the margin by the 15th end was now just three. Again Matthew, John and Dan pulled away, leading by 10 with 10 ends to play, only to see Lenny start producing some great shots to pick up those shots over the next five ends to have the score locked at 25 - all after 24 ends. The next four ends saw some great bowls with some really tight heads, but the experience of Matthew, John and Dan got them across the line in what was a terrific game of bowls. Just a reminder that memberships are now due and that nominations for the 2020/21 bowling season can be put on the board so the draw can be done. Unfortunately the kitchen is still closed on Friday nights since the departure of our caterers. Watch this space though as we may have found a new chef! None the less, the drinks are still cheap and cold, and we are open from 4pm Thursday to through to Sunday.

15.01.2022 Just a reminder that there will be a quick working bee Saturday morning from 8am to remove the shades from the green in order for the new ones to be installed. Also, the Club Footy Tipping party will be on from 3pm on Saturday afternoon. This will coincide with a game of social bowls for those interested.

15.01.2022 Tara Bowls Notes It was great to see the Club back open and a healthy crowd in attendance on Friday night for the Chinese Banquet night. Saturday afternoon saw eight players dodge the brief showers in Jackpot Joker Bowls. For the record Jim Smith, John Smith, Pip and Mike Llewellyn may have defeated Pop Wilson, Billy Russell, Matthew Prain and Cliff Brauer.... On Sunday, under leaden skies and a wet track Tara President's Day went ahead and the 14 teams in attendance enjoyed their first real outing since the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions. Congratulations to Dalby's Keith Teakle, Nathan Lee, Kev Z and newcomer Dave Adamson who were the winners for the day, just ahead of Ray Harth, Barry Henry, Wendy Harth and Tim Dahl from Wandoan. This coming Saturday Tara host Meandarra in the biannual Sh*ts and Giggles Shield. This is always a great event and lots of fun is had on and off the green. Everyone is welcome to take part, sausage sizzle lunch at midday followed by two games of bowls for the afternoon. The Club is going to push ahead and complete Championship events this year, so keep an eye on the board for upcoming games. Just a reminder the Club is open from 4pm on Wednesday through to Sunday, with meals, raffles and members draw on Friday evenings. Condamine District Notes Congratulations to Tara on hosting a successful, albeit wet President's Day last Sunday. It was great to see most Clubs in attendance, and special mention to Chinchilla for having nearly four teams in attendance. The President's Day doubled as a CDBA meeting and at the meeting Chinchilla requested a change in dates for the Blue Pennant double header set down for 15/16 August, to be bought forward a week to 8/9 August. Other Blue Pennant teams are to advise the Match Committee if this will affect their squads by Thursday 16 July. Red & Green Club's also have to finalise nominations by the same date. At the meeting it was also resolved that Bell be not allocated a President's Day in 2020/21, Champion of Champions venue to remain the same next year as they were not played this year and the Player of the Year Awards not be contested this year due to disruptions caused by COVID-19. Upcoming dates are - First double-header for Blue Pennants, 25 July at Jandowae, 26 July at Chinchilla. Second double-header to be at North Dalby & Dalby, dates to be decided, "A" Grade Singles CoC 3 October at Taroom, Group 3 Pennant Play-Offs 26 September at the winner of the CDBA and Group 3 Singles play-offs 17 October at Chinchilla.

15.01.2022 A massive weekend just gone with several Christmas parties taking place. Thanks! Chef Mark will be cooking up a storm again this Friday night with tasty treats such as buffet style meat balls, BBQ wings, fried rice, potato bake, wedges, heaps of salads and free dessert all for $20 per person. A reminder to Club playing members that nominations for Championships will close soon, so make sure your name is on the board should you wish to play.

15.01.2022 BIG NEWS! Things are nearly back to normal! Although, COVID-19 restrictions still apply. So no high fives just yet! Our gaming machines will be back up and running tomorrow, and we now have CC & Dry on tap.... Friday night we will have a chinese feast to celebrate. Spring rolls, fried rice, honey chicken, lemon chicken, sweet & sour, chicken & sweet corn soup, mongolian beef and everyone's favourite, prawn chips. Come down and have some fun and help us get back on our feet after this very difficult time for us all. Thanks Tara.

11.01.2022 Tara Bowls Notes One game of "A" Singles quarter-finals last weekend with Max Merry taking on Craig Ensbey. Craig got off to a great start to lead 8 - nil after just four ends. Max then got on the board and won five of the next six ends to only trail by two, 9 - 7. Craig pulled away to lead by as many 7 shots at one stage, but Max hung in there and fought back to level the scores at 15 - all after 18 ends, The pivotal point in the game came on the 20th end when Max had two go...od shots, but a drive from Craig removed both and he picked up four shots. Again Max fought back but another four shot haul shortly afterwards saw Craig qualify for the semi's 25 - 20. "A" Grade Singles are at the quarter-final stage and the following games are to be played by Easter. M. Llewellyn v John Smith, M. Prain v J. Wilson and L. Wright v Jim Smith. Eleven teams have nominated for the Association Pairs event to be held in Chinchilla this weekend. Cards will be drawn from the table at 9am, and with an odd number, there will be five first round byes and three qualifying games for the final eight. 09.01.2022 Tara Bowls Notes Not a lot of action on the Tara green over the weekend due to the start of the Blue Pennant competition. Although, there were 10 or so players for social bowls on Saturday afternoon. Well done to Mike Llewellyn, Jim Smith, John Smith, Cliff Brauer and Matthew Prain who represented the Club over the weekend in the Blue Pennant. 02.01.2022 Tara Bowls Notes A beautiful winters day, matched only by the quality of the playing surface, greeted 40 bowlers from both Tara and Meandarra for a catch-up edition of the inter-club shield that is competed for twice a year. It was a terrific afternoon of fun and a fair share of frivolity, and everyone in attendance had a cracking day. For the record Tara skip Matthew Prain, teamed with another Tara player in Dan Collins and Meandarra's Tod Devenish lifter the coveted toilet ...Continue reading
