24.01.2022 'Tis the season for tax scams. Fraudsters are approaching the community via phone and email claiming to be representatives from the Australian Taxation Office ...(ATO) in order to defraud them. The ATO will never: - threaten you with immediate arrest, - ask you to pay money to receive a refund or payment from them, - ask you to pay a debt via iTunes vouchers, or pre-paid credit card or store gift cards, - ask you to provide personal information, such as your tax file number (TFN) or credit card number, via email or SMS, - ask you to pay money into a personal bank account, or - direct you to download files from the internet, or open attachments in unsolicited emails. If you receive a phone call from someone you suspect may not be legitimate: Hang up the phone, do not send them any money; and ask a family member for help confirm the caller is legitimate if required. If you receive a suspicious email claiming to be from the ATO, do not click on any links, open attachments or respond to the sender. Forward the entire email to [email protected] without changing or adding any additional information and delete from your inbox and sent folder. Please share this message with your friends and family, especially the elderly and those who may not be aware of this common scam.

23.01.2022 How will the reforms to the FBT laws affect salary sacrifice arrangements? The reforms will remove the statutory formula method for both salary-sacrificed and employer-provided car fringe benefits for new contracts entered into after announcement, with effect from 1 April 2014. Existing contracts materially varied after 16 July 2013 will also fall under the new arrangements. Existing contracts that are not varied will continue to have access to the existing statutory rate throughout the contract. All car fringe benefits for new leases will be calculated using the operating cost method from 1 April 2014.
