24.01.2022 When hiring studio time .. what is not included in your cost of hire is the lack of respect for the studio’s gear ! Spilling drinks on expensive gear is not part of the deal .. neither is swapping your old gear for their new gear ! This mixer from Kokoro Studios GC required complete disassembly to clean the circuit boards with acetone .. then clean and degrease all the sockets pots faders and switches !... You break it .. you pay for it .. and smile for the cameras .. most studios now have monitoring in place for this .. they shouldn’t have to but these days it’s a must ! As a studio owner, what requirements do you have on bands hiring your time / space / gear ?

24.01.2022 The weekend is upon us .. you know what to do >> STAY HOME ! Coming from a "party" town like the Gold Coast, it can be hard to fathom the depth of this impact unless you immerse yourself in the reality of it.... This is the City of Chicago via drone .. population: approx 3 Million. Watching this on a mobile just doesn't do it justice ! In the big picture, we chose humanity over $$$$$.

23.01.2022 Fender solid state amp has random buzzing after warming up ! Spot the burn mark around the pin in the center of the output power amp. Dry solder joints can cause arcing and heat due to minimal conductivity.

21.01.2022 While most musos are familiar with the usual 6L6s EL34s 12AX7s etc, there are many other vaccuum tubes used for other purposes than audio amplification. Three of these are the Magnetron, Klystron and Phantastron .. all of which were part of my electronics tuition in the RAAF. A klystron uses the kinetic energy of an electron beam for the amplification of a high-frequency signals.... In a klystron, the electron is injected normally from the cathode. In the case of magnetron, the electrons are forcefully injected. A Phantastron is a type of electron tube oscillator or timer circuit invented during radar development during World War 2. Here's a quick breakdown of the workings of a Klystron !

The camera is "paired" to the logic board !... Meaning repairers can no longer purchase another camera or screen to repair your phone if you break it. It HAS to be repaired by Apple !

17.01.2022 Marshall JCM900 dropping volume intermittently. A simple test to see if the fault is in the preamp or main amp stage is to insert a signal into the RETURN loop path. In this instance, the fault being tha actual socket for the return having a corroded contact.... Even if you don’t use these sockets, still keep them active by plugging and unplugging a lead to them. Same with all the front panel controls .. rock then back and forth min to max to keep the tracks active and prevent dust buildup.

17.01.2022 Quite possibly the worst destruction of a powered speaker diaphragm I’ve seen. Mobile phones hey Think of your powered speaker as a TIMES TEN box.... Input - output 1 in - 10 out 10 in - 100 out 100 in - 1000 out Now call the output watts and imaging what happens if the output is only capable of 400 watts out and your driving enough INPUT so much to try and get 1000 watts out !! What do you think happens to the other 600watts of power put into the speaker diaphragm ? You guessed it .. the picture says it all !

12.01.2022 QSC powered speaker has a protect led lit due to open circuit resistor. The resistor failure is due to the DC filter capacitor failing .. as a result, no -15V rail to the preamp circuit. Resistor value is 21 ohms !... #qsc #poweredspeaker #repair #techcentral

12.01.2022 Yamaha DGX-520 display problem ! Ordering the display for this repair when it was not the fault would have cost >> Courier fee... Restocking fee ( part not required .. return ) Return courier fee Just because the customer had experienced this fault with another tech, doesn’t mean they know the fault as legitimate. Symptoms: cannot read display but can see text when pressed with finger ! Previous tech supposedly replaced the display and gave her the faulty part in pickup. As this was the exact same symptoms, I suggested to bring it in FIRST to diagnose fault. You can see from the video what the actual fault was .. which suggests the previous repair was just smoke and mirrors !

12.01.2022 When your amp starts to crackle and give dirty sounds .. small flecks of mica inside the tube floating around. If you look closely, you may just see them rocking out to your tunes !!

06.01.2022 Pioneer CDJ1000 not reading disks ! And for a very good reason >> this is the laser block that someone has obviously tried to fit themselves and failed. How do I know ?... When a laser block is sent, the laser is shorted out by those two beads of solder as lasers are a static sensitive device .. so just in case there was an electrical storm in its transit, the laser would not be destroyed.
