23.01.2022 Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth has awarded BlazeAid volunteers with the prestigious ‘Commonwealth Point of Light’ beacon award for outstanding volunteerism after t...he Australian 2020 Megafire. Blazeaid volunteers are the only ones in Australia this year and is announced as the winners among 52 Commonwealth countries. There is one Award announcement a week and today it is Australia’s turn. It is being announced and will be public in London today - I don’t know if the newshounds here will get it in Australia for the weekend papers but I think you may wish to let your local paper know. Queen Elizabeth will personally sign the award which will be personally presented in Canberra ACT by the British High Commissioner Vicki Treadwell when it is safe to travel again. All of you in the very impressive BlazeAid family should take a bow and feel very proud of the massive difference you make in the lives of others to help them after natural disasters. Your recognition is so well deserved and not before it’s time. Details of the Award should be up on the Commonwealth Point of Light website very soon if not already. Rhonda and I salute you all as you do the tough work! See more

16.01.2022 Noosa’s passionate adventure operators are on a mission to align themselves with Tourism Noosa's green initiative, Plastic Free Noosa. They hosted their first c...ommunity clean-up event on Noosa Foresfore this week which is proudly sponsored by Heads of Noosa Brewery. There was an incredible turn out from other local community members, with about 45 clean-up participants in total. The clean-up followed their regular meeting where the Adventure Noosa Group, which is made up of 60 passionate tour and accommodation providers, hospitality venues, breweries, adrenaline junkies and tourism promoters meet to discuss ideas to boost tourism and entice youth travellers to the Noosa Region. Local eco warrior, Alison Foley from Ten Little Pieces presented to the group to empower them as they continue on their eco journey and provide opportunities to educate their customers on how they too can make a difference when in region. Our very own Plastic Free Noosa Ambassador, Jarrah, who is an 11 year old out on a mission to inspire everyone to take care of our beautiful Biosphere Region, was also there on the day as we picked up rubbish from the Noosa River Foreshore. Our clean-up stats recorded are below: Date: August 19, 2020 Location: Noosa Foreshore Time: 3:30pm-4:30pm Attendance: 45 people Result: 16 bags filled (used)and approx 15kg total weight of rubbish collected Adventure Noosa’s next Plastic Free Noosa clean-up: Location: Sunshine Beach (Meet at Sunshine Beach SLSC) Date: Thursday 24 September, 2020 Time: 3:30pm-4:30pm Networking: 4:30pm onwards Sponsored by Heads of Noosa Brewery & complimentary seafood snacks provided by Off the Hook Takeaway A few of the Adventure Noosa members who participated: Noosa Learn to Surf, Skydive Australia, JUCY Cars & Campers, Bike On, KB’s, Book Me, Hero Travel, Ecotekk Electric Bikes, Trikes and Scooters, Noosa Beach Surf Hire, Noosa Ocean Rider, Nomads Fraser Island Tours, Noosa Thriller, Backpackers World Travel, Flashpackers, Nomads Noosa Hostel, Beach Hostel Mooloolaba, Ingenia Holiday Parks, Noosa River Holiday Park.

06.01.2022 Lions Australia is pleased to have adopted Disaster Relief Australia as one of our key projects. Disaster Relief Australia (formerly known as Team Rubicon) brin...gs military veterans, emergency responders and motivated civilians together to volunteer their time to assist with emergency and disaster relief operations. This not only helps communities devastated by disasters, but it also helps Australian veterans find purpose through community service. Lions members are often the first to respond during times of crisis, as was seen in the 2019/2020 Black Summer bushfires. This partnership will be of significant benefit to both organisations - allowing veterans to get involved in more community projects, and assisting Lions clubs with more trained emergency responders in times of disaster.
