24.01.2022 CERTIFIABLY INSANE || It’s official. Last week we received an important piece of paper in the mail advising us we can now proudly declare ourselves ‘Australian Demeter Biodynamic in conversion’. But why biodynamic and why have we decided to certify? When we first bought this property and set about converting it to organic we really didn’t imagine we would need to take this step. We were doing it simply because we believed it was the best way to take care of our land and make... good wine. So what changed our minds? And why did we choose Demeter Australia as our certifying body? Do we have rocks in our heads? Read more via the link in our bio. Cheers Anna and Neil

24.01.2022 Our cellar door is open for tastings this weekend, Saturday and Sunday 11-4. There’ll be bubbles, whites and at least one red on the tasting bench. Last opening till after Christmas.

24.01.2022 PICTURE PERFECT PINOT || When the fruit entering your cellar looks like a still life and you’re already painting a mental picture of the final product, you can’t help but wonder if this might be the one. The masterpiece you’ve been working towards with every blank canvas of your career to date. 2017 was a great year for growing Pinot noir in South Gippsland with the vineyard providing case after case of perfectly formed bunches at peak ripeness and pristine berries full of fl...avour. Two-and-a-half years on and we’re finally letting our 2017 Pinot noir out the door. Read more about it in the latest of our Letters from The Wine Farm (link in bio) and shoot us an email if you’d like to get your hands on some. Cheers Anna and Neil

23.01.2022 SUMMER CELLAR DOOR || Come and taste our wines where they’re grown, made and bottled. We’d love to tell you a bit about how we do things here...

23.01.2022 SPECIAL DELIVERY || Hi folks, just a little community service announcement. We’ll be out and about delivering wine around the region while this rain keeps us out of the vineyard. If you live within 40km of Koonwarra and need a top up before the weekend jump into our online store (link in bio) and place your order today.

22.01.2022 Hi friends, our cellar door will be open this weekend, Saturday and Sunday 11-4, for take-away sales only. While we’d love to open a few bottles to share with you all, alas now is not the time. But it will be lovely to see some of your smiling faces as we do the contactless pick-up dance. (Or if you want to be super efficient, pre-order via the shop link in our bio and we’ll have your wine packed and ready for you.)

21.01.2022 When spring starts its thing on The Wine Farm it means the pruning is done for another year, the vines are waking up and starting their slow and steady climb to the next harvest, and a new set of wines is ready to be released into the big wide world. Swing by our cellar door this weekend to taste our Pet Nat ‘18, Chardonnay ‘18 and Pinot noir ‘17. Open Saturday and Sunday 11-4pm.

20.01.2022 A brief history and wine || In the last of our ‘Letters from The Wine Farm’ for the decade we get a little reflective with a snapshot of our journey over the last 10 years and a deep dive into the cellar. Specifically we’re digging out a selection of Rieslings from our library stock to give us clues about the season ahead. Read more via the link in our bio and get in touch fast if you want to skip down memory lane with us via a small allocation of three vintages of Riesling - the perfect partner to virtually any Christmas dinner I can think of. Cheers Anna

17.01.2022 Only two weekends left of our little summer cellar door. Open 12-5 this Saturday and Sunday and next. And the Rosé is back!

16.01.2022 Planting thoughts || When we bought The Wine Farm five years ago we inherited eight varieties of grapes in two types of soil and varying states of health. As much as we wanted to stamp our mark on the property from the get-go, we resisted the urge to come out swinging our chainsaws and shovels. Instead we scratched that itch on the roses and put our energy into rejuvenating the soils and giving the vines all the vines; even those varieties we weren’t naturally drawn to lo...ts of love, allowing them to show their true potential in this cool climate, and with our particular way of farming, over several vintages. Now the time has come to make some tough decisions. Which varieties will we hone in on as we take The Wine Farm into the future, and which, thanks to our friendly local bobcat, have seen their last vintage. Read our current thoughts in the latest of our Letters from The Wine Farm on the website now. See more

15.01.2022 DISGORGING PÉT NAT || Every bottle of our Pétillant Naturel is riddled and disgorged prior to release. We want this sparkling to be as pure as can be. Literally nothing but grapes in a bottle. This one ran out the door yesterday so the cellar was back in production mode this morning to top up the shelves again. Having aged on its lees for 21 months it is drinking beautifully. Come and try it for yourself from 12-5 today, tomorrow, Tuesday or weekends till end of Jan.

07.01.2022 SPARKLING CONVERSATION || Bubbles aint bubbles. There are so many ways to make wine sparkle and given the one we use is a little left of centre we thought it might be timely to give you a ready reckoner on all things fizz. Check out the latest of our Letters from The Wine Farm via link in bio and get your hands on our 2018 Pétillant naturel while you’re at it. Don’t forget to sign up to our mailing list while you’re there too to make sure you’re among the first to hear about new releases. Cheers Anna

07.01.2022 A KICK UP THE BUM || Half way through vintage 2020 and life feels fairly familiar here on The Wine Farm as we try to block out all distractions and focus on harvesting our precious crop. Except that suddenly all our customers have been forced to shut up shop. Because the way we farm here is physically harder and takes more of our time than farming conventionally with chemicals, we haven’t had much capacity to market the product we create. We've always relied on our wonderful... distributor and the pool of fabulous restaurants they service to provide a home for most our wines. But suddenly that pool has dried up. It’s time to come out of our shell and start selling ourselves if we want to be in this for the long haul. (See the latest of our Letters from The Wine Farm via link in bio for more.) If a few bottles of wine in your pantry are going to help you make the most of this next challenging phase of our lives - and lord knows my glass of wine at the end of a day of home-schooling has already become a lifeline - please consider buying them from some of your favourite small producers. You rarely see these little family-run businesses in the big retail outlets that will probably be the major survivors of this shutdown, so every dollar you spend directly with them will mean the world. DM us with your email address if you’d like a list of our wines currently available. With a lockdown looming and delivery of non-essentials up for debate, it could just be last orders for awhile Stay safe and cheers Anna and Neil

05.01.2022 MOVING WITH THE TIMES || Firstly, a huge virtual hug to everyone who’s been in touch this week to get their wine straight from the source. The response to our last message has been overwhelming and we are extremely grateful. The process was a little clunky given we haven’t had much practice handling our own orders but from here on things should be more straightforward We now have a proper grown up online store! You can check it out at www.thewinefarm.com.au/shop any time you need a top-up and please spread the word - every bottle we sell helps us to carry on producing chemical free wine for you to enjoy. (For our local customers, we are still working out how to offer free delivery via the shop so feel free to email your order or buy online and we will reimburse you with cash in your drop-off.) Cheers Anna and Neil

03.01.2022 So long Max, Robin and Louis. Thanks for an awesome vintage, you guys were amazing. Stay safe

02.01.2022 VINTAGE 2020 || We’ve been a little quiet of late. There’s been a bit going on. Or rather, with so many curve balls thrown at us these last six months, we’ve needed to take some time to process it all. Neil likes to keep records in his little green book and the latest of our six vintages on this land was right off the charts. Smoke, unseasonal rain, a very late, small harvest and a pandemic to cap it all off. If you’re interested to read our notes from what was a wacky ride in the world of wine, check the latest of our Letters from The Wine Farm via the link in bio (and sign up via our website if you want them sent straight to your inbox). Here’s to a glass half full! Cheers Anna
