25.01.2022 What to do if you are concerned that you or your loved one may be infected with COVID-19 The national 24/7 hotline triages people with respiratory symptoms and those who are concerned about contact with a possible Coronavirus case. If you think you may be infected, you can call the triage hotline on 1800 020 080. Suspected Coronavirus patients can present in person to a GP clinic, a dedicated respiratory clinic or to a hospital ED if they call ahead. 17.01.2022 PLEASE SHARE: OK, so this Coronavirus shit is getting real. Today it was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation. The USA is kind of out of contro...l, and among today's spreading news so far, the US NBA has suspended all games and actor Tom Hanks and his wife, here on the Gold Coast are in hospital with COVID19. But what does this all mean for disabled people and their families and workers? 1. This means you NEED to ask your providers for their infection control measures. 2. You NEED to make EVERY WORKER, EVERY SHIFT, wash their hands, properly, on entering or leaving your home, before and after going to the toilet, and before and after preparing or eating food. 3. You NEED to ask your provider what are their contingency plans if your workers get sick and your support needs are critical. 4. You NEED to ask if you will be prioritised in case of self isolation/lockdown and how your workers will handle this. 5. You probably NEED to ask any workers returning from overseas to NOT WORK with you for two weeks. 6. If you or the person you love is in a day program - you NEED to know what is your provider's protocol for excluding those with symptoms, and what alternate support will they offer if they have to shut down? Please take this stuff seriously. We won't be able to stop this virus spreading, but if we slow it down we might make our health system better able to cope, and for more ICU beds available for "our" people who might need them more than others, and who are unlikely to be prioritised for those beds (harsh but true - I've read the pandemic protocols for one of our local public hospitals). Some of you may shoot me down, and call me a fear monger - that is not what this is about - this post is about better preparing yourself and those around you for what is more than likely, going to hurt many of our at risk people with disability - this is not just about those with reduced lung function and compromised immune systems - this is about people with intellectual disability who may not have as good hand hygiene and cough etiquette, who may be more "touchy" than others, who are more likely to have diabetes etc. Please- look after yourselves and those around you - demand that your providers have robust processes in place to protect you as best they can. Here are some resources you can forward to them: Here's a link to a short video with simple clear explanations from our ABC: https://www.facebook.com/abcnews.au/videos/203317927422887/ Here's the link to our Easy English info about Coronavirus: https://bit.ly/2TBqdIm Here's a link to a great 30 minute free training about infection control from Disability Services Consulting: https://training.disabilityservicesconsulting.com.au//infe Daily updates from the Federal Government can be found here: https://www.health.gov.au//novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-hea Please share. Yes this is copyright, but I encourage you to share, with credit and no edits - if you share outside of facebook (and I encourage this), please send me an email so I can keep track - [email protected] pic desc: an emoji of Sam from The Growing Space's face wearing purple framed glasses with the word "FOR REAL" in big type around the pic.
