25.01.2022 PLANT BASED POWERHOUSE. The ultimate plant-based, anti-ageing alternative for vitamin A will be gracing our clinic shelves this week! Designed to help promote a more youthful complexion, this lightweight, oil-based serum harnesses the gentle power of 1.25% pure bakuchiol. A clinically proven alternative to retinol. Bakuchiol Peptides is enhanced with brightening peptide precursors, which help to maintain a glowing, even complexion and infused with cica (centella asiatica), an... ingredient perfect for soothing inflamed, sensitive skin. Photostable, Bakuchiol Peptides can be used both day and night, for accelerated visible anti-ageing results. Our love affair has begun. x THE FACIALST See more
24.01.2022 awareness Below message courtesy of my brave, beautiful & talented friend, Sharna of @calma_health SENSITIVE CONTENT ... It is pretty hard sharing this, and I feel a bit vulnerable still, but if sharing this helps just one person in the future, then the share was worth it... Get your skin checked, no matter your age. We live in country that worships sun and basks in the summers. And yes a certain amount of vitamin D is needed for optimal health, but sun can also have its harmful side. What started as a small sunspot noticed 18months ago, turned in to a much bigger then expected and some massive lessons I’m now working through. I am reminded of how our physical form is constantly changing and that without our health there is nothing. Wow. 2020 ... I’m not sure I can slow down any further or peel back anymore layers but I promise you I am processing all of the lessons. . . #health #suncare #skincancer #checkyourskin #scarface #detatchment #wellness #daybyday See more

22.01.2022 It’s not goodbye... Last night new government restrictions were announced by our PM forcing our temporary closure. These restrictions are to protect each and everyone of us, to help #flattenthecurve and keep us safe. Whilst heartbreaking, our priority has always been the health and wellbeing of our clients & we have closed the clinic until restrictions are lifted. Sending love, and wishes for good health to everyone.... It’s not goodbye, just see you later. x Lauren & THE FACIALIST TEAM See more

18.01.2022 INGREDIENT FAVE #repost @officialmedik8 RETINOL-LIKE ACTIVITY, NO IRRITATION. Meet bakuchiol, an extract from the Indian Babchi plant. Present at clinical trial levels of 0.5% in Calmwise Colour Correct, this little plant has truly magical effects on the skin. Collagen stimulation, speeding up cell renewal, brightening the complexion; doesn’t this all sound a little familiar? These are all generally effects associated with vitamin A (retinol) use. We’ve known for some ...time that bakuchiol can be a natural alternative to retinol, but recently a clinical trial conducted by the British Association of Dermatologists (see the end of the post for the link) has drawn some incredible conclusions about the effects of bakuchiol compared to retinols... - THE STUDY A 12-week study of 44 patients using a twice daily application of 0.5% bakuchiol found that the bakuchiol offered retinol-like results without irritation, ideal for very sensitive skin. Both retinol and bakuchiol users showed significantly decreased wrinkle surface area and hyperpigmentation, with the retinol users reporting more irritation. - KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON In Calmwise Colour Correct 0.5% bakuchiol combines with soothing niacinamide, revitalising caffeine and mineral green pigments to help diffuse redness and strengthen the skin’s natural protective barrier. The dual-action cream tackles both inflammation and signs of skin ageing head on. - The final word; bakuchiol is an ideal natural alternative to retinol for those with extremely sensitive skin, or even during pregnancy when vitamin A is off-limits (but of course, if pregnant, we'd always recommend you check your skincare products with a doctor!). Have you tried bakuchiol? . . . 16.01.2022 I admit.. I may of consumed copious amounts of wine yesterday... whilst binge watching Netflix...in my trackies.. for 8 hours. Today I am back online, with a slightly fuzzy head but a full heart! My family & I are healthy, we are lucky enough to have plenty of food (not so much wine) & have each other to isolate with. I have been inundated with love & well wishes from clients & friends - my FACIALIST FAMILY, and now I have time to step outside of the clinic room & look objec...tively at my business, and see ways I can make it an even better experience for you. Until I am able to get a firm date that we can safely re-open, please note that all GV’s will be extended & as of today all deposits paid on future appointments have been refunded. In the mean time, any questions about your skin and skin care routine can be emailed to me, I will be regularly available. I’ll be keeping this page active & getting back to our blog, any topics you would like me to cover - please let me know! Again from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Sending love to you & yours, until I can get my hands on you, x Lauren [email protected] See more

15.01.2022 dreamy steamy shower sins whilst this dreamy space & the magic of heat may ease muscles & wash away worries.. having long hot showers can strip our skin of it’s natural oils - which play a crucial role in keeping moisture in and our skin microbiome in check! . NYC Board Certified Dermatologist Dr. Hadley King shares a general rule of thumb when it comes to showering; make it not too long, not too hot, and not too frequent. .... Stripping our skin lipids can cause dehydration, sensitivity, irritation and an altered skin microbiome that can leave us susceptible to infection. Further, a decent dose of hot water will dilate blood vessels & capillaries which can aggravate pre-existing skin conditions. . Our advice here is to keep your temp warm, don’t turn your face up to the faucet, brief is better (get in, get clean, get out) & moisturise! . with love, THE FACIALIST. read below for a little more compacted skin bio 101 The top layer of our skin, the stratum corneum, is composed of protein built to keep moisture in & to act as a defence against our external environment. To help our stratum corneum out, the body produces a lipid layer which lays atop - this is COOL - these lipids are composed of primarily ceramides, free fatty acids & cholesterol and have evolved to provide protection of large organisms (you & me) from potential environmental danger, such as, microbial invasion, mechanical trauma, UV Radiation (to a degree), water loss and environmental compounds that may trigger an immune response. The lipid bilayers of our skin form the only continuous pathway across the stratum corneum & are primarily responsible for skin barrier function. Depletion or disturbance (ie long hot showers) causes deviation of barrier function & may lead to skin disorder and/or disease. . So, how steamy is your shower? x L . image via Pinterest See more
15.01.2022 cool air got your skin grumpy? . Our skin barrier functions to maintain an optimal water level to support a myriad of processes that contribute to skin health, this water content varies depending on gender, age & location. We constantly experience changing levels of water loss across our skin barrier (TEWL), but this can be accelerated with changing environments such as cooler more dry air, & on the flip side, direct hotter air ( like from a heater we may use to combat that c...ooler air!). If your skin is feeling the change in weather here are a few tips with love from us: . NO HOT SHOWERS, yep if you are feeling chilly than yes, a hot shower does feel amazing! However this will contribute to accelerated water loss & irritated skin. Opt for warm not hot & use a lipid base body wash to hold in a little moisture. EXFOLIATE, cell turn over can slow & build up preventing absorption of any topical serums & creams you are applying & making them less effective, exfoliating 1-2 times a week will help you get back your glow. MOISTURISE, twice a day to support your skin barrier & lock in that water. EAT YOUR EFA’s, foods rich in omega-3 & omega-6 fatty acids will contribute to the skin’s production of ceramides & function to replenish the skins lipid structure, these are vital to maintain a healthy skin barrier. . Still struggling with grumpy skin? Come see us x THE FACIALIST See more
15.01.2022 M O V I N G A lot of our clients already know that we were in the process of purchasing a new clinic space when COVID-19 hit, whilst we are unsure if that’s our next move now, we are sure that our time at Miami Village has come to an end. The government restrictions that forced our closure continue so we have decided to use this time to de-fit our current clinic space & search for the perfect next home for it. We are hoping to re-open 4 weeks from the date restrictions are... lifted & will not be going far! Keep updated by following us here or subscribing to our website blog, I can’t wait to get my hands back on you! x Lauren See more

14.01.2022 APPOINTMENTS RESCHEDULED bookings taken from TUESDAY 14TH APRIL To our clients and friends,... Whilst away from Australia with my family, a lot has changed. When I arrive home on Monday I will self-isolate for a period of 14 days to ensure the safety of others in cooperation with the mandatory quarantine guidelines. In discussion with staff, Australian health authorities and other clinic owners, I have decided to suspend trading for a further week to implement new health strategies that will further minimise risk to staff and clients, the health of which has always been our priority. For appointments made within this time, I cannot thank you enough from the very bottom of my heart, your continued support in this time is so appreciated. For those that have paid a deposit, a code will be issued for you to use when re-booking that will allow this deposit to be used as credit (keep an eye out for this via email). We will be re-assessing weekly to make sure we are in alignment with Government recommendations, and ensuring all health and safety measures are taken to allow you to relax and enjoy our services. We look forward to getting our (very clean, gloved and still nurturing) hands on you from Tuesday 14th of April! This clinic is my dream and we will move forward through this, so again, thank you endlessly for your love and support today and always. x Lauren and THE FACIALIST team. [email protected]

08.01.2022 how are you (really)? The relationship between our mental, physical, & emotional health, and, our skin health is complex. Our skin perceives stress & is also a stress response target. Stressors trigger a cascade of physiological responses to allow us to adapt, and, if these responses are inadequate or in excess, stress can trigger or exacerbate disease and disorder & negatively affect skin functions. .... The way we look at skin health is always from a scientific foundation & we believe in a holistic approach. So we ask, maybe pry a little, about your sleep, diet, environment, digestion, stress, mood & self care habits, & we ask: how are you... really? x THE FACIALIST See more

02.01.2022 don’t sugar coat... . I know whilst we are mostly home bound and have a little more time on our hands it seems like a perfect opportunity for self care recipes. But when it comes to your skin any exfoliating scrub that contains irregular shaped particles or rough granules can create micro-tears in your skin surface. These little tears gradually weaken the skin barrier compromising skin health & potentially causing irritation. Ditch the sugar tin.... If your skin is needing a little help turning over & you don’t have your prescribed exfoliator at hand, opt for a little mashed papaya* (the fruit just under the skin is best as it’s rich in the enzyme papain) leave as a mask for up to 20 mins & rinse. A little skin care tip whilst we are self facial-ing. I miss you! x Lauren . . *always allergy test if you don’t regularly use or consume, swab product behind ear leave for prescribed time, wait 24 hours. . . image via Pinterest. See more
