25.01.2022 Steve Davis’ plea for better social media etiquette at Cranker Comedy

25.01.2022 As many of you know, I ran the first social media training for businesses in South Australia, back in 2005 for the City of Adelaide. However, Facebook and Google are fighting to not have to pay news organisations for using news links to keep people engaged to their services and make money. Sooooo, they've come out today with a draft code to scare off the media and government, it reads: "Assuming this draft code becomes law, we will reluctantly stop allowing publishers and peo...ple in Australia from sharing local and international news on Facebook and Instagram. This is not our first choice it is our last. But it is the only way to protect against an outcome that defies logic and will hurt, not help, the long-term vibrancy of Australia’s news and media sector." Hmmm, I think, now might be a great time to also update the code for our relationships, to protect us against the long term harm of social media habits. Here's some wording to contemplate, if you dare: "Assuming this draft code becomes law, we will reluctantly stop allowing each other to be focussed on our smartphones when in each other's company. We agree that sharing our lives on Facebook and Instagram is not our first choice it is our last. But it is the only way to protect against an outcome that will hurt, not help, the long-term vibrancy of our relationship." Who's game? I'll be expanding on this theme at Cranker Comedy on Cranker Comedy Tues Sep 15. If you'd like to contribute ideas, send your entries to: Living Life Dangerously GPO 666 In your capital city

24.01.2022 This gem from the BBC brought back many memories of running overnight talkback on 5DN and FIVEaa in the 90s. Enjoy!

23.01.2022 Reviewing the Windmill Theatre Co production of this tomorrow at the Adelaide Festival Centre for ABC Adelaide Smart Arts

23.01.2022 Ever wanted to see me naked? I didn't think so. However, if you close your eyes during a few moments of episode 2 of Is This Thing On?, which premieres Friday night, you'll avoid my naughty bits while watching some fascinating TV as 10 would-be comedians continue our journey to discovery under the watchful eye of Glynn Nicholas and about a hundred cameras.

18.01.2022 It is always heartening to see one's words reproduced. Worth noting these were written for episode one of Decameron 2.0, currently being rolled out online by State Theatre Company South Australia and ActNow Theatre. Here's the link to episode one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rSTs1DEyjA

18.01.2022 First time doing Smart Arts in the ABC Adelaide studios since COVID.

18.01.2022 Did you know I once shared the TV screen with Professor Dumbledore aka Michael Gambon? It was in the Inspector Maigret television series shot in Budapest in 1992. I appear twice and thanks to YouTube I've been able to save this piece of "breakthrough" character acting as a French waiter. I share this clip to honour the spirit of method acting great, Konstantin Stanislavski. Here are the highlights but please, don't blink! PS It just occurred to me that had the series been set in the era of mobile phones, there would not have been a role for me. So actors get the raw deal from technology AND pandemics!

15.01.2022 I certainly don't mean to offend my friend, Dougal McFuzzlebutt, but if you were a budding spammer, why would you choose a name like Flanagan Macnutt? Surely, such a name instantly draws attention to itself. A more common name like, well, Steve Davis, is more likely to slip through your defences and bite you on the bum. PS Obviously, not all Steve Davises ...

14.01.2022 A raw outtake from video/audio recorded today for release over the next week, celebrating the fact that Robert Godden's The Devotea has joined forces with my Baristador Coffee so you can get both beverages from the same website. All revealed tomorrow but our little chat with @Simone Douglas from The Duke of Brunswick this morning coincided with her grand hotel's relaunching of weekend breakfasts. She also carries Robert's tea, served properly at the bar!

14.01.2022 Who's a cheeky boy, then? A great candid shot from my stand up comedy set last Tuesday night at Cranker Comedy. More acts on tonight - 8-10pm - at Cranker Comedy Tues Sep 22. Surely Ross Vosvotekas (the man behind this weekly event) should have legend status in this town and an image of a crown on the footpath with his name on it. He does so much to make these opportunities available to others. Three beers, er, cheers, nah, beers!

14.01.2022 Comedy secrets: I’m doing a set at Cranker Comedy this Tuesday night so to prepare I’m not only rehearsing but entrusting my few remaining hairs to master hairdresser and comedian whisperer, Don Violi, from Khrome Hair Studio in Prospect. Now to cut my script with the same deftness and finesse with which Don cuts my crop.

13.01.2022 Pop Nov 24 in your calendar and get to Cranker Comedy how the row flies

09.01.2022 We covered lots of territory on Smart Arts ABC Adelaide with Peter Goers, Samela Harris, and yours truly, Steve Davis, this morning. Windmill Theatre Co, Eddie Perfect, Lucy Durack, Hans, and even the Berliner Ensemble (from Hans' homeland), all got a mention.

07.01.2022 I think the entire world could do with one of these. Obviously this is to scale and not the actual size.

04.01.2022 A dental question.

02.01.2022 Many, many thanks to the Blind Insights with David Olney team (David and Tim) for inviting me in to reflect on The Arts. It's a wide-ranging discussion on a topic close to my heart and close to the heart of what it means to live full lives during our short waltzes across the stage!
