25.01.2022 PLEASE WATCH Prince Ea has always been an inspiration of ours here at The Rescue Collective. While this a few years old now, every day we spend on the planet its content becomes more relevant. Watch. Think. ... Ponder. Be the change needed.... See more

24.01.2022 HAPPY BATURDAY Are you all snuggled up like little Stormy? Or what are you up to today? No matter where you are on this planet: please stay save and happy!

24.01.2022 HAPPY WOMBAT WEDNESDAY! Last week we brought to you the blonde/golden wombat. Here’s another photo depicting how incredibly different in colour these little spunky chunky nuggets can be. Like Ying and Yang. We may have mentioned previously that wombat poop is square in shape... but for all you wombat lovers out there, we want to test your wombat knowledge with a wee bit of trivia. ... Who knows how this poop comes to be so perfectly shaped, or for what reason this might be?

24.01.2022 Did you know? Adoption fees at most rescues start from just $300 with all vetwork included. If you’re looking to adopt and not sure where to start, send us a PM and we are happy to guide you in the right direction to some amazing rescues.

24.01.2022 Fun Fact Friday...here we have the awesome Tassie Devil! Not at all sweet and cuddly like some of our native animals, but they're still pretty cool. These guys were named because of the howl they let loose at night, causing the early European settlers to believe them to be 'devils'. Unfortunately those early farmers also nearly wiped them out, due to the mistaken belief that the devils killed livestock. Devils are mainly carrion eaters, and will devour a whole carcass, bones... and all! Once found all over Australia, they are now confined to Tasmania and listed as endangered. Devils are a protected species, but their survival is threatened by Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD) - a contagious, most often fatal disease discovered in the mid-1990s. It is spread through fighting and mating. Lumpy tumours form around the head and neck, growing rapidly so that the animal finds it hard to eat. A devil can die of starvation within six months of showing symptoms. Efforts are underway to protect devil populations in the wild and to establish populations in zoos and on offshore islands, free of the disease. Let's hope they don't end up like the Tasmanian Tiger and find a way to fight this! Photos: Steve Parish, Huon Valley News, Sarah Peck. See more

23.01.2022 THANK YOU THURSDAY: PARK RIDGE STATE SCHOOL A while ago we called out for help with supplying nesting boxes for our local wildlife. The teachers at Park Ridge State School responded and a group of young boys worked so hard this semester to make a whopping 13 possum boxes and 20 bird boxes. Each hand painted. We would like to say a huge thank you to the class for their efforts! These boxes are already being distributed to carers in need. We still have some left to send ou...t so if any group in the Brisbane region or members of the public would like to put them up for their local wildlife please contact us. If you, your school or community group would like to get involved in making nesting boxes, pouches or other handmade items for animals, please email Delilah at [email protected]

23.01.2022 Grub Update! Oh how we love receiving such videos in our inbox! We couldn’t wombat Wednesday again without a Grub update. He’s now well over 3kg and becoming quite the little nugget. Is it just us or does he walk just like a staffy? Notice the wee noises he makes as he wanders...... Don’t forget you can follow Grub and all his other wombat friends more closely and support his rehabilitation by following and donating to the team at Safe Haven - AACE. The only wombat conservation rescue in QLD.

20.01.2022 SPECIAL DELIVERY Guess what we (well, you) bought and has just arrived? Well.... go on! Guess!... Watch this space for updates

19.01.2022 Looking for something to do this weekend? We’re thinking... ROAD TRIP! Children’s Book Author, Chrys McDuffie, from Kingaroy Qld was so moved by the 2019-2020 fires that she wrote a poem that developed in to a book, song and an eBook. We are pleased to announce that she is having her book launch tomorrow as follows:... Day: Today, Saturday 10th October 2020 Time: 11am 1pm Where: Memorial Park in Kingaroy

19.01.2022 What the actual hell Queensland?????? Mareeba council you should be ashamed! As if these poor sweet creatures already didn’t have enough of a challenge to survive. They’ve been out all night long flying, feeding, breeding and need their rest and you do this???? Shame on you!!!!!!... These are the times we are ashamed to be Queenslanders. No bats, no native trees. No native trees, no koalas (amoungst other wildlife). With a lack of respect like this for our wildlife., we as humans are doomed. And deserve to be if you ask us!

19.01.2022 IT’S STEVE IRWIN DAY Today (and every day in the wildlife world) we celebrate the life and legacy of a verified, certified and bonafide Aussie legend. A man who put us crazy Aussies on the map, so much so, that in his prime, one couldn’t travel the world without being asked ‘Do you know Steve!?’. Whilst of course we didn’t, through our work now, we feel we did. His passion lives on. In us, and through us. Steve was a man who, combined with his amazing family has saved ...a whopping 900,000 animals in the wild to date, and whose wildlife hospital recently treated their 100,000th patient. Crikey! If he could see it now! We here at The Rescue Collective are incredibly lucky to personally work with and support Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors, the Irwin Family and the amazing team at the Wildlife Hospital in their work. Whilst we didn’t get to meet Steve himself, we feel his presence though the legacy he left. Fun Fact: Today’s date coincides with the birthday of one of Steve’s most loved animals - a big tortoise from the Galápagos Islands named Harriet who lived to be 175 years old! Steve’s mission was simple: ‘To save wildlife’ And that is what we shall do... together

19.01.2022 Fun Fact Friday is back! Today we bring you something a little different...a post about the Tasmanian Tiger, scientific name the thylacine. There's been talk in the news recently about sightings of this enigma and many people are hoping that it's extinct status is to be proven wrong. The last thylacine died in captivity in 1936, and no concrete evidence has been found since of it's continued existence however there's been a lot of fuzzy photographs! Did you know the thylaci...ne was the sole representative of a biological family, Thylacinidae. They were unique: a dog-like creature with a pouch. It's closest living relatives are numbats and Tassie devils (both of which are also endangered). Although their jaw could open at an incredible 90 degrees, they did not have sufficient jaw strength to hunt large prey. They were considered a threat to sheep, so the government placed a bounty for hunting on them. That combined with habitat destruction lead to the extinction of this shy and non-threatening creature. Since European settlement, hundreds of species like the thylacine have become extinct. Australia has the highest rate of mammalian extinction in the world - not something we are proud of. Tasmania has a large area of rugged wilderness and this could encourage the idea of the possible survival of the thylacine. They are out there, believers say not gone, just hiding. Let's hope they are right and we can finally take one animal off our sad extinction 'list'. What do you think - are they still out there? See more

18.01.2022 Fun Fact Friday...today we say hi to the Southern Cassowary. A face only a mother could love, this impressive bird has quite the reputation as someone to avoid! Although shy and elusive by nature, they can be aggressive if provoked. The cassowary stands an imposing 1.8 metres tall, and lives in the north Queensland rainforest. Did you know they are responsible for transporting the seeds of more than 60 plant species around the Cape York Peninsula? Sadly their numbers in the wild has nearly halved to about 4,500, which is partly due to each bird needing approximately 300 square hectares of rainforest habitat. And of course, encroaching human development is causing that area to diminish. Photos: Paul IJsendoorn, Ed Pierce

17.01.2022 HAPPY BATURADAY FAM! You may have seen last night 7.30 on ACA...bats 'tormenting resident and ruins a woman's tropical paradise'... Our thoughts? What a joke. You call this news? ... *insert eye roll here* Pity she and everyone supporting this nonsense doesn't realise without bats she probably wouldn't have a tropical paradise in the first place... The equation is simple: - = Period.

17.01.2022 KOALA HABITAT & REGENERATION PROJECT ALERT Have you heard of the Koala Clancy Foundation? Well, they are planting koala trees and establishing koala habitat in and around the Gippsland and Mallacoota areas (just to name a few) that were completely decimated by the fires of 2019/20.... As you may or may not remember, The Rescue Collective had supplies on the ship HMAS CHOULES; the first lot of emergency aid supplies to reach the area. Check them out, make a donation or get involved in some tree planting today! https://www.koalaclancyfoundation.org.au/ Koala Clancy

17.01.2022 THIS BABY NEEDS A NAME! Fun Fact Friday...look at this little beauty, she’s a sugar glider and in care with one of our very own Rescue Collective volunteers. These tiny nocturnal babies can glide up to 150 metres through the treetops, and use their tail as a rudder to change direction. And...she needs a name! Please comment with your suggestion and her human mum will pick the one she likes best

15.01.2022 Us too! #WeStandwithQSAR QSAR has always been close to our hearts here at The Rescue Collective. We are disgusted as to how the media has portrayed a rescue that has saved thousands of lives. Those that know this rescue know how endlessly hard they work day and night. They do not deserve this defamation or disrespect. ... Rescues and supporters unite! Our friends at Queensland Staffy and Amstaff Rescue need our support

14.01.2022 HEAT STROKE IN DOGS How are you keeping your best mate cool? Please share in the comments below. As we grudgingly embrace the heatwave upon us today, try to remember it’s nothing just humans suffering. Every creature on this planet experiences change in temperature and dehydration. Dogs, especially bully breeds suffer greatly from the heat and risk heat stroke. ... Check your mate. Watch for signs of distress. Share your ‘how to keep your best mate cool’ pics below so we can help our friends through the summer heat.

13.01.2022 MEET THE TEAM MONDAY! We’ve been adding a few more positions to our team of late, and while we didn’t need any a new photographers (our current one is in this picture), it appears we possumbly have a new assistant any behind the lens. ‘Stitch’ the Ringtail Possum was pretty intent on contributing to the creative direction on a recent rescue outing. We didn’t have the heart to tell him his photos didn’t quite work out. ... Stitch is currently in care with one of our volunteers who also volunteers with Wildlife Rescue Queensland. Welcome to the team Stitch!

12.01.2022 Hard to read. Hard to see. But maybe, just maybe, seeing this will slow you down... Or make you go back and call someone who can help the poor, injured soul. Accidents happen, but turning your back is inexcusable. Cowardly. ... We know...You can’t bear to see such things as this, but each day our news feed is riddled with such horror as this, horrors that our rescues and carers have to suffer through on a daily basis. Cleaning up the mess of heartless humans as they desperately try to save the lives of the animals around us. Please, we beg you. If you hit an animal of any sort. Google a local wildlife rescue. Or call the RSPCA. Don’t let them suffer more than they need to.

12.01.2022 URGENT Can you help save Boss? Shelters are full... If he goes in he may never come out. If you can help Boss, please contact Qld Staffy & Amstaff Rescue urgently. Like now! Don’t wait! ... A foster, adopter or even temporary place to buy him time will do!

12.01.2022 We’re lovers of all animals here at The Rescue Collective. Each and everyone one of us all have a number of animals in our household, whether they be companion or wild. But seriously, keep your dogs on lead in bush land and known wildlife territory. Koalas and Kangaroos are attacked and mauled time and time again by those that leave their dogs out at night or of the lead in bushland. It’s not okay for a domestic animal to kill a wild one. : Leonard Fitzpatrick

11.01.2022 SATURDAYS DONE RIGHT In the words of Willie Nelson (with a few small edits) ‘On the road again... We just couldn’t wait to get on the road again The life we love is saving wildlife with our friends And we couldn’t wait to get on the road again On the road again Goin' places that We’ve sometimes been Seein' species We may never see again Back on the road again....’ With the fires on Fraser Island kicking of the season, and all the borders reopening, there is no rest for the wicked. Team Rescue Collective back in full swing, here’s a few snippets from our first day back on the roads yesterday...

09.01.2022 PROJECT SAFE HAVEN. Our friends at Wildlife Rescue Sunshine Coast are about to do something HUGE. Something that will protect and conserve the precious wildlife in our state for years to come.... A legacy like no other. Watch this space. Get involved. Make the difference our wildlife need us to. Because together.... we can

09.01.2022 WE NEED TO TALK Because animal rescue isn’t all cute babies and snuggles. Animal rescue is hard. Carers and veterinary workers are vulnerable to compassion fatigue, financial and emotional stress, relationship issues, having to deal with loss, and seeing things that you just don’t want to see. Without our carers and vets we have nothing. It’s why we do what we do.... The Rescue Collective is looking at more ways to support our community than just providing financial relief through donations. We’re looking into ways to help with the mental and emotional stress that comes with animal rescue. That’s is how we came across WildTalk. WildTalk is a hotline run by qualified counsellors that is available 24/7 and is free of charge. It is designed to provide an assistance program to all rescuers, carers, veterinary professionals and researchers through times of illness, injury, or crisis that have an impact on mental health. Please, if you require some support, call WildTalk and speak to someone who understands the pressures of what you do. Please share. This post might help save a loved one. 1300 307 111 https://www.facebook.com/WildTalkCaringforcarers/

09.01.2022 As rescuers we spend our lives trying to save animals... only to realise that they are the ones saving us.

08.01.2022 SHARING IS CARING! THANK YOU ARC It’s been a minute since we worked with our sister from a different mister rescue Animal Rescue Cooperative. Black summer is something we will never forget, it made us both who we are today. Today, they shared with us a massive donation to pass on and pay forward to the rescues and carers we work with, predominantly here in Queensland. ... From a young age we are taught that sharing is caring. Well, we feel pretty darn tootin’ cared for after having all this goodness sent to us to get to those that need it. To their amazing partners and suppliers; thank you for trusting us with this mother-load. ( #harmonywildbird #trillbirdfood #Petbarnfoundation #marsbirdcare). We plan to move all of this and more within the next few weeks (those rescues we already work with, we will be in contact) but if you are a rescue or carer not registered with us, and would like any of the following, please message us: Harmony Insectavore Trill Small Bird Pellets Trill Large Bird Pellets

07.01.2022 WE’RE BACK AT IT. This time of year there are so many forces to be reckoned with for wildlife and carers around the country. Drought, floods, fire, storms, heat and trauma. After a slower few weeks, we’re back travelling the state and delivering the supplies that you, our collective members have so generously donated. Here’s a few of the animals you have been supporting lately ... Here’s a few pics from a recent trip out to Inglewood to visit the team at Wildlife Empire. Its been a year since we first supported this amazing rescue, and we plan to do so for many years to come. We are once again collecting supplies to support feed those animals in care, so if you can help us this summer as you did last you can assist in a number of ways here: https://therescuecollective.org.au/how-to-donate/ #youdidthis

06.01.2022 URGENT FUNDS OR 4WD REQUIRED Safe Haven - AACE NEEDS OUR HELP!!!... Remember little Grub? All the wombat Wednesdays? Well, the team at AACE desperately need our help. We cannot foot the bill alone and desperately need your help. AACE have been left without a rescue vehicle! This is a disaster and puts all the animals in rehabilitation at risk, and deems rescue of injured wildlife in the area non existent. Evacuation in a fire or flood also made impossible without a vehicle able to tow. Located in Gladstone and central Queensland, nothing is ‘just around the corner’ for these wildlife heroes. They cover an incredibly large area and simply cannot be without a sound vehicle. They previously had a vehicle donated but it is no longer fit for use. The past month alone they clocked up: 1000km in koala trauma rescues 900km for koala transport and back to aus zoo for eye surgery 1000km to take two koalas to release sites 300km to rescue an echidna 900km from sea to vet and back again for a 50kg turtle 600km to pick up 4 joeys from Rockhampton vets and take to sanctuary 1100km collecting fortnightly donated sweet spuds (Thanks Mortimers!) 1750km (over 100km every 2 days) to gain leaf fodder for koalas 350km travelling to schools & workplaces for education on & conservation work That’s almost TEN THOUSAND KM IN ONE MONTH. Whilst simultaneously caring for the property with over 100 animals in rehabilitation They cannot do this without a sound vehicle. They will not be able to rescue or respond. Getting to vets and surgeons will be next to impossible. Animals will suffer. PLEASE HELP US HELP THEM BY DONATING HERE: PayPal [email protected] Bank Deposit NAB Australian Animals Care and Education BSB: 084662 ACC: 678428529 Donations over $2 are tax deductible. Alternatively if you know of a business or person wanting to donate a reliable 4WD please contact us. We to will be supporting this cause and contributing to the kitty. And don’t forget, if nothing else, share this post

06.01.2022 It’s THANK YOU THURSDAY! Today HP wanted to pop in here and thank all the pawsome people who have kindly donated bags of cat food to our drop off locations over the last year. HP is in foster care through the Cat Cuddle Cafe and Rescue. ... Isn’t he clever getting his dry food out of that food puzzle tower?!

05.01.2022 KURT UPDATE We know many of you donated towards Kurt the Koala earlier in the year, who is currently in care with Queensland Koala Society. Well, we visit Kurt regularly to make sure he has everything he needs (and let’s be honest, to get a bit of a ‘fix’- believe us when we say there is nothing in this world more mesmerising than the smell and touch of a koala joey).... Anyhoo, we thought (or knew) you might like a little sneaky peaky at how beautifully he is growing up and how healthy he is looking. He’s strong and incredibly cheeky and even has a young lady friend that’s just moved in. Pop on to the QKS page to see Camille the newest joey in care... after of course, you’ve appreciated Kurt’s then and now pics a little more. Isn’t he to die for?! https://www.facebook.com/queenslandkoalasociety/ #youdidthis : The Rescue Collective

02.01.2022 HEAT STROKE | STRESS WARNING It’s going to be quite literally as hot as hell this summer, with today being a scorcher. Remember; if you’re hot and bothered and thirsty, so are the animals around you. Whether domestic or wild, make sure you have water out and accessible and watch for signs of suffering from the heat. ... Also, never pour water from a bottle directly into the mouth of a wild animal, especially a koala. Always ensure the water is offered in a bowl so it can be lapped. Pouring water into the animals mouth very often leads to aspiration which can causes life threatening illness and in many occurrences, death.

02.01.2022 Are you echidding me? Sqeeeeeeeeal. How cute!?... Meet Patsy the puggle. With no sharp spines yet (more like a 5am shadow) she’s still soft enough to snuggle. Who here doesn’t want to snuggle a puggle? Patsy is currently in care with the amazing team at Wildlife Rescue Queensland. Did you know that echidna spikes are actually modified hairs? Or that they are cousins with platypus? Yep! Amazing creatures echidnas. Not only that, if left to their own devices and kept safe and protected, they live to a ripe old age of 45 - 50 years! That’s a long time to live for someone so small. To follow Patsy, and support the amazing team of carers at WRQ, check out their page today: https://www.facebook.com/WildlifeRescueQueenslandInc/ Stay tuned for Patsy’s progress over the next few months.

01.01.2022 WELL, WE’RE LOCKED DOWN. As you may or may not know, we are Brisbane based. Due to the current restrictions in place, we will be keeping all our volunteers grounded until further notice. A high majority of our volunteers reside in Greater Brisbane, and their safety is our utmost priority, as is yours. We must all do our part to ensure we can get back to what we do best ASAP- we have so many amazing projects in the works and would hate to have to put them off. Hopefully i...n three days time we will be back in action. Until then....Stay safe fam. And please, don’t forget your mask.
