23.01.2022 It's been a while. I've been head down trying to service Clients/supervise school work/keep sane. Here is what what I have learned so far during this tricky time I need a routine. It's more flexible than pre-COVID, but I try to wake up, walk the dog, have breakfast/start work, or homeschool at roughly the same time each day.... Listening to inspiring podcasts while on my daily walks are precious *me time* and help set me up for the day. Ones I love at the moment are The Lorraine Murphy Show @lorrainemurphy and Unlocking Us @brenebrown Iso has inspired me to learn both for business and self-development - I've enrolled in a design course by @thatdesignlady, and a self-development course by @lorrainemurphy loving both so far! My Clients have been so understanding and supportive #allinthisttogether Noise-canceling headphones are a lifesaver - I can literally work anywhere with these, including our busy kitchen. I'm currently on my bed #backdisaster Pre ISO; I needed complete silence to create content, not anymore with these bad boys! I love playing gin rummy and scrabble with the family in the evenings pre Iso [typically too busy running kids to activities] And last but not least I have been so impressed with the beautiful online community. Everyone has been so supportive, helpful and extraordinarily kind during this time What have you learned so far?

22.01.2022 My favourite part of running my own business is the freedom it gives me to be there for my family. This is the number one reason I chose to freelance versus working for someone else. Don't get me wrong it can be hard to keep motivated working from home [especially after lockdown } in fact after the school holidays which always kills me, ha! I started to look for a job but after a couple of interviews i quickly realised I wouldn't have the freedom I needed and then CO...VID hit. Which was a blessing in disguise. I realised I love working for myself but that I needed to implement strategies to keep motivated and stimulated; Step away from my desk when the words don't flow. Organise regular catch ups with girlfriends to maintain that social contact. Stick to my work days which are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Enrol in regular courses both professionally and for my own self development. When I asked potential employees who kind of training/education they provided, it was minimal if any. Get super organised and intentional with my time. I now plan my week almost hour by hour to make sure everything gets done in the short day that I have. And finally something I'm very excited for is to start working in a co-working space [thank you Beaches Coworking] What is your favourite part of running your own business?

20.01.2022 Keeping your COOL ....on social media in a world crisis aka COVID-19. With panic buying in the supermarkets and a potential lockdown bringing huge uncertainty to all businesses, it's definitely a challenge to keep your cool right now.... What do you say on social media? My thoughts are that we need to: 1 Calmly acknowledge the situation, explain what measures your business has put in place to avoid the spread of the virus, taking care to consider your tone of voice - sarcastic might not be the right tone for this particular time, but empathy, understanding and even some tasteful humour can go a long way. 2 Explain how you are going to be operating both with Clients and internally. Will you be working from home, having meetings via Zoom? 3 Ensure all your facts are correct. there is A LOT of false information out there, and you don't want to spread more panic and fear #checkyourfacts 4 Share content that is relevant and valuable to your ideal Client e.g. can you share positive stories that might lift up your follower's spirits? Or initiatives that they can get involved in? Above all, it's important to stay positive in this unprecedented time #nomeanfeat. Sending all my love and good health to you all and please don't hesitate to drop me a DM if you would like help in working out what to say for your business on social media. -

12.01.2022 Sending positive thoughts and sunbeams your way It can be hard when you're a small business owner to keep those good thoughts coming day in day out but a positive mindset is key What are your tips for staying positive when you're having a blah day?

06.01.2022 Showing UP It can be hard at the best of times to promote yourself but now more than ever your followers need to see a friendly face and know that it's business maybe not as usual, but adapted to this new situation we find ourselves in. Pre Covid I had the pleasure of attending a headshot day at the beautiful @avalonbeachcottage with the lovely Leah from Snappystreet Creative and although I am always telling my Clients to get professional photography fo...r their social media platforms I was hesitant to book in. It's not my happy place [and many others I know], to be in front of the camera, I feel awkward and a little bit silly. [btw I needn't have worried, Leah made me feel relaxed and at ease immediately] BUT I know and see the results of engagement and reach for my Clients when we show professional photos on their feed. So it's time to walk the talk, ha! Here are my top reasons why you should invest in professional photography Showing your face helps build connection with your audience. People do business with people so showing up on your feed helps build the know, like and trust factor so they will hopefully end up buying from you. Having professional photography gives a professional image of your business. It's called professional for a reason - photographers understand lighting, composition, best angle etc and basically know how to take a great photo so that they can capture the best version of you to promote your business. Sure you can take photos on your iPhone and there are occasions when this is OK as long as they are good quality, not dark or blurred and align with your brand. If you are looking for a some super lovely photos for your social media platforms/website check out the gorgeous Leah @snappystreetcreative. She runs headshot days, personal branding shoots and more. 03.01.2022 It's easy to forget living by the ocean that Australia is in drought, the worst since records began in some parts. Growing up in the UK I never really experienced drought, it was only when I was travelling through Costa Rica which was in drought at the time, I become conscious of saving water. Recently I was reminded that we can all do our bit to help conserve our precious water. Thank you to @sydneywater who were at my local shopping ce...ntre with their Small Change Shop taking pledges from the public to help save C2O Here are some of ways you can pledge to save water every day, choose one or go all in! To take 4 minute showers To do full loads of washing To use the half flush on the toilet To turn off the tap when brushing your teeth [a trick I learnt in Costa Rica and use to this day] I pledged all of the above, which pledge will you take? Do you have any other water saving tips, please share below! Let's all work together to save our precious water

02.01.2022 Credit where credit is due AKA social media etiquette Want to use someone else's image on your feed but not sure how? Before you dive in and start sharing, read these best practice tips to avoid getting yourself in hot water 1 Always ask the creator before you share. I send a DM explaining why I love their work and then requesting to use their image. I never leave a comment on a post. It's impersonal and it could get missed if there are ...a lot of comments 2 When you've received the remember not to alter the image in any way, which means no filters, text overlay, no size change etc. 3 Tag the creator in the post [include @username and select their Facebook page if posting from Facebook and if you're posting from Insta tap*tag people* or tap the person icon if you're using a scheduler like @planoly to add their username] 4 Credit the creator in your caption. I like to pay a compliment, for example taken by the very talented @username 4 The only time it's OK not to credit is when you have purchased the image from an image library such as Shutterstock [as I have here]. From the free image sites even though it's not necessary, I will always try and credit the photographer, as it means more exposure for them Happy crediting dear friends!
