24.01.2022 This is a first attempt at a double layer Sachertorte. It got a bit uneven on the side due to a malfunctioning cake ring, but kids and more important husband (a belated birthday cake) didn’t complain . I have a different one planned for Father’s Day (in between baking for two markets).



24.01.2022 I continue my Austrian Winter warmer series with a pork goulash and bread dumpling. You can’t go through Winter without Schweinsgulasch und Semmelknodel. Originally from Hungary, this classic stew made with veal, beef or pork made it to Vienna via Hungarian immigrants where we gave it our own twist. Cubed pork (the poor people’s meat in Austria of that time) is slowly stewed in stock, paprika (mild and hot), onion, caraway, tomato paste and bay leaf until the meat melts in your mouth and the sauce is creamy. If you take your time you won’t need to thicken the sauce. Gut Ding braucht Weile. Good things take their time.

24.01.2022 Coming back from a school camp with my kid yesterday and some much needed catch-up sleep, I am back in the kitchen preparing for Exeter Village Market tomorrow. There will be loads of Austrian Christmas cookies, Apple Strudel, Peach-Almond Strudel (a new recipe), Cherry Pear Strudel and Ricotta- Cherry Strudel and a little surprise, if I have enough time. If you want to secure your piece or full Strudel let me know ASAP and I’ll have it ready for you to pick up on Saturday. I won’t make it to Bundanoon this Sunday, so tomorrow is your chance to treat yourself. See you there.

19.01.2022 I prepared a Sachertorte and realised I didn’t have the right jam. I always have berries in my house, so I decided to make a Swiss meringue buttercream with raspberry purée for the middle layer and top. You can try it tomorrow at Bundy markets.

13.01.2022 Today was my first market in Marulan and despite of the beastly cold and wet weather I did quite well. A big thank you to all Marulan and surrounding folks who braved the weather and tried my goodies. I’ll be back with hopefully better weather next time. 05.01.2022 I love to use produce from my garden for cooking and often I exchange some of my bounty with friends’ produce. Yesterday, I made a classic of the Viennese cuisine for dinner: Schweinsgeschnetzeltes. Pork fillet with four types of mushroom and fresh spinach with a creamy herb sauce and mash with my own potatoes.

03.01.2022 I had great fun catering for a high school orientation day last Friday. For the morning tea picnic I made apple strudel as well as chocolate and hazelnut roll (gf) slices accompanied by blueberries and strawberries. The lunch was also a picnic, so I made mini pizzas (gf, regular and vegan options) and a mixed salad with god, baby spinach, rocket from the school garden mixed through with cucumbers, capsicum, avocado, asparagus, cherry tomatoes and pomegranate.

02.01.2022 I’ll be in Mittagong and will bring cookies for Christmas. Come by and test them out. You can also order a decorative box of 10 cookies.

02.01.2022 Have you heard of ‘Zwetschgenröster’? Can you pronounce it? It’s a spiced plum compote, or as others call it, a very liquidy plum jam. It’s best with Kaiserschmarren. And because it is my favourite combination, I added a sprinkle of chilli to it. Molto bene. Big thanks to @cityorsticks for the plum donation. Some glasses will be on your way soon. Plum jam in the classic sense is still to come.

01.01.2022 A big thank you to all my customers this weekend who came to Mittagong Markets and Bundanoon Market. I had two fantastic days and sold out again. I wish I could bring more, but the hassle of needing some sleep, limits the amounts I can do. I strongly recommend to pre-order to secure your favourite treat. I will also work on making up my mind earlier and post a menu early in the week. So many possibilities, it’s hard to decide. Enjoy your weekend evening, hopefully with a glass of vino and good company in front of a fire.
