17.01.2022 It is with a very heavy heart that I am announcing that as of yesterday afternoon, The Studio clinic has closed its doors. The safety of our clients and the wider community is the top priority, and I believe the risk of transmission and spread of the virus is unacceptable. The responsible course of action for all of us now is to stay at home. But dont worry - we can still help you! We now have an online platform where we can perform video consultations. How does this work y...ou ask? Very similar to a regular consultation! We can still assess and diagnose you by asking lots of questions (which we always do!), directing you to do certain movements and tests, and palpating areas on yourself to indicate pain. We can then educate you about what to do (which is what we always do!), and teach you how to apply certain manual techniques to yourself, and of course prescribe your exercise program and supervise you via video. We need to look after ourselves and each other during this time, so please consider supporting us and supporting yourself by booking in with your Physio for an Online consultation. If you are also suffering hardship and loss of work, contact us and we will continue to support you throughout this time. It is times like this that you take stock of what really matters, and the care and concern I have received from my beautiful clients has made me truly grateful for the community we have created. 14.01.2022 Dear Clients, We know you must be tired of seeing these COVID-19 related posts by now, but we need to make our policy clear and provide you with some information. If you have travelled overseas within 14 days of your appointment, we request that you phone to inform us and not attend your appointment. If you have been in close contact with anyone that has tested positive to Coronovirus, we also request that you phone to cancel any appointments. ... If you are feeling unwell, have a cough or fever, we please also ask that you do not attend the clinic, but isolate yourself at home. If you are in an at risk group - above the age of 80, existing lung or heart disease, cancer, diabetes; then we suggest that you also refrain from attending the clinic, even if you are feeling well. We have not yet been mandated to close by the Government, and will remain open for the timebeing. If you do require treatment, please make an appointment as soon as possible in order to ensure we can help you. If you are well, please help support our small business and attend your existing appointments. When you do attend the clinic, we ask you to please wash your hands immediately on arrival. If you are attending a Pilates session, we ask you to make sure you bring your socks (or you may be asked to purchase some from our selection), and we would also appreciate if you could bring your own towel. Every surface touched will be cleaned between every client. If you would like further information on boosting your immunity and staying healthy, our nutritionist Sally will soon be holding an information webinar, or you can book in for a consultation. Meditation is also shown to reduce stress and boost immunity, and for the timebeing we are still running classes on Wednesday nights. If the clinic is forced to close, but you need physiotherapy assessment and advice for an acute problem, we will be aiming to offer Phone or Skype consults. Exercise is obviously also important in staying healthy and sane, so if either we are closed or you have to be isolated, we can develop home pilates and rehab programs for you. 13.01.2022 C L I N I C U P D A T E Given the minimal number of cases recorded in Perth over the previous week, we have decided to begin seeing a limited number of patients in the clinic again! Appointments will be prioritised for those in acute pain that require hands on treatment in order to effectively manage their condition, and then existing clients that have had their management put on hold. Pilates consults will continue to be given via Telehealth, or outdoors. This is to mini...mise the traffic through the clinic doors, so that we can continue to maintain social distancing with people other than your physiotherapist, and maximise cleaning procedures in between appointments. Our reception staff will also continue to work from home, emailing you your invoices for payment and claiming online, in order to minimise contact with surfaces and people. When you book an appointment, you will also be requested to fill out an online screening questionnaire to ensure the risk to yourself and others is low before you attend. If we continue to have no new cases reported in WA over the next 2 weeks, we will begin to gradually resume our 1 on 1 Clinical Pilates consults in the studio. Then we will allow 2 on 1 sessions for those within the same household only, before finally returning to full capacity and your normal 2 on 1 classes. If you are vulnerable or wish to continue isolating - dont worry! We will continue to offer our Telehealth services to all that need them.

12.01.2022 Wow, last week was pretty stressful! Weve all been dealing with our own individual situations, but one thing is for sure - everyone is feeling the effects of this crisis one way or another. Now that we have had a few days to feel the emotions and process whats going on, I wanted to update you on how we are moving forward. This week we have already begun seeing clients via our Telehealth service, which really is just a fancy word for video call. Its amazing how effective ...these consults have been! I have been so excited to start to get to see my clients again and have found that I am able to assess and prescribe movements and exercises just as effectively, as the patient can see my demonstrations, and I can see their movements and give clear, timely corrections throughout. Continuing your Pilates sessions with your Physio online, is so much more valuable than being left to exercise unsupervised using programs that may not be appopriate for your body and your injuries. Our options for Telehealth include Initial Consultation for new clients or new injuries, Follow up Consultation for current clients continuuing their physio management, and Exercise Consultations for continuation of your supervised, individualised Pilates program. At this stage, the health funds have announced they are bringing in item numbers for Telehealth Physiotherapy rebates, but will not be available until 14th April. If you regularly attend our Pilates sessions and rely on your rebate to be able to afford it, then let us know what your usual rebate is and we will deduct it from the fee until the new rebates come into effect. Another option we have for existing clients, is for us to develop you a tailored Home Exercise Program and be available via phone/message/email for questions, modifications and progressions over a 4 week period. If you havent seen us in the previous 3 months, then a consult may also be required in order to assess, diagnose and prescribe appropriate exercises. I am also running Guided Meditation classes on Zoom every Wednesday night at 7:15pm to reduce stress and anxiety at this time. DM for the link, it is free to join. 08.01.2022 Things are looking up in Perth! Hopefully this will be our last covid update We now have our full complement of therapists back in The Studio doing face to face consults. This includes all the Physios - Sarah, Demi, Alicia and Kym, as well as our Yoga Instructor, Tanya, who is back taking private yoga sessions in the studio, and our Nutritionist, Sally, who is now available for consultations.... Our reception hours, however, are still reduced. So, if you ring whilst the desk is unattended, please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible. You can also email any queries, or book online for all 1 on 1 services. We are still offering Telehealth consults to anyone that is unwell or unable to leave their house, this can also be booked online under Online Services. As everything feels like it is slowly returning to normal, we are still asking that all patients attending their first appointment fill out a form with screening questions to confirm they should not be isolating for any reason and they are not currently experiencing any symptoms. We are maintaining extra hygiene practices including hand sanitising upon entry, bringing your own towels and socks to Pilates, and extra cleaning of all surfaces. What a crazy time this has been! We hope that you are all doing ok and coming out the other side of this. 06.01.2022 We are now back in The Studio for Pilates as well as treatments with all of our Physiotherapists We have changed the setup of the Pilates studio so that we can maintain distance rules for 2 on 1 sessions, and you will be required to bring your own towel and any of your own equipment (mat, bands, foam roller), to minimise any sharing. All clients coming in to the clinic will be required to fill in the COVID screening questionnaire prior to attending. For those that do not fe...el comfortable sharing the room, you may still request to continue your Pilates sessions 1 on 1. For those that are still isolating/quarantining, are vulnerable, or for whatever reason cannot make it in to The Studio, we will still continue your Online Pilates and Physio sessions via Telehealth. Your safety is still our main concern, so our policies and restrictions will continue to be fluid and based on reported cases and likelihood of community spread. If you are at risk or unwell, please continue to stay home and let us stay in touch and look after you over the phone or via video. Remember - all social distancing and hygiene protocols still apply! 05.01.2022 In these unchartered territories, my initial reaction was naturally to worry about my family and my business that I have lived and breathed for the last 10+ years, and as much as I still dont know if the studio can survive this, I have expanded my awareness to those around me to realise we are all in this together and many people are in worse situations. Taking a step back I see this is exactly why I started the studio in the first place - to help people in need! We are all... feeling stressed and anxious, and now more than ever we need to take steps to stay healthy in body and mind. From this week my meditation class will be free of charge, and if you would like to request a time/day I will put on extra sessions to ensure we comply with social distancing. 05.01.2022 ** Please share - ACL tear infographic! ** Thinking around Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear management has changed considerably. Many young, active patient...s can return to pivoting sports through physiotherapy and exercise alone (Frobell et al 2013, Smith et al 2014, Zadro and Pappas 2019). Recent high-quality research is suggesting drilling through the joint cartilage when undertaking an ACL reconstruction constitutes a second trauma to the knee, and may actually be increasing long-term knee osteoarthritis (Nordenvall et al 2014, Filbay et al 2017, Larsson et al 2017, Bowes et al 2019). 02.01.2022 More evidence to support nonoperative ACL management. Another early 2000s classic, this time by Myklebust et al (2003). Short term (RTS) and long term outcomes ...(function, QOL, OA changes) were observed in elite European Handball players who had injured their ACL. Nonoperative management or ACLR was up to the player. Those who chose to go nonoperative, 82% RTS and continued to do so for a further 4.1yrs. Those who had an ACLR, 58% RTS for a further 3.8yrs. During the follow up period of ave 7yrs, 22% reinjured their graft. In regards to long term outcomes, there were no significant differences between groups with approximately 50% of both treatment groups reporting episodes of pain, instability decreased ROM and showing some degree of OA change. My 2 cents: Nonoperative rehab needs to be considered more often than what it is currently. ACLR is certainly an option, but we need to be clear with our patients that ACLR doesnt guarantee a return to sport, nor does it guarantee a superior quality of life over nonoperative management, and it certainly doesnt save you from further meniscus injury and OA.
