22.01.2022 Tip of the week - Warming up: Injury prevention is key as the winter sport season starting back and warming up properly is a critical part of that. For a good warmup it is important to start slow and let the body ease into the activity, using movements and dynamic stretching rather than static stretches. This prepares the bodies muscles and nervous system for the activity ahead and opens up a greater range of movement through different joints.

After spending some time in Sydney working in a local podiatry clinic he became interested in working outside of his home, and in particular experiencing the exciting things that Canberra has to offer. Jason enjoys all aspects of podiatry including diabetic foot care, nail surgeries, sports and biomechanics as well as general foot care. Kyro has just joined the Lyneham and Belconnen clinics after previously working with a team of physiotherapists to build his skills in exercise prescription and manual therapies. Kyro is passionate about all aspects of podiatry, including general nail care, wound management and diabetic assessments. He also has a special interest in strength and exercise rehabilitation for lower limb injuries aided with orthotic therapy and joint mobilisations. Kyro spends his spare time weight training, watching European football and trying out new restaurants.

02.01.2022 Tip of the week - Correct shoe for the activity: Whether youre a runner, playing soccer or netball an injury caused by the wrong type of shoe for your chosen sport can disrupt your season or fitness goals unnecessarily. As well as preventing injury by protecting your foot from heavy landings or allowing you to make the necessary quick changes, making sure you have the correct footwear makes a big difference to your ability to perform, and excel during the winter season.

02.01.2022 Tip of the week! - Ingrown toenails! Our team of podiatrists have seen a huge increase in ingrown toenails as sport has started to return. Kids (particularity teenage boys) are sweating and squeezing their feet into tight sports footwear. Ingrown toenails are very painful and easily become infected (just like the image). ... If they start to become irritated or inflamed, soak the toes in saline water (2 cups of boiled water (let cool before putting your foot into it) to 1 teaspoon of iodine-free salt), dry and apply a dry dressing. If the problem persists it can be due to a spicule of nail pushing into the side, contact our team and we can manage it on the spot quickly and without discomfort.
