22.01.2022 Thank you everyone who has texted, phoned, messaged and made contact today, we are overwhelmed. We are safe, as is the house at Penneshaw. We are in Clare, having returned from the island after having been there for three weeks on the 28th. ... The fire threat has diminished thanks to a cool change and some light rainfall. Thankfully the next two-weeks weather forecast is mainly mild and there will be some moisture in the air. Our understanding is 1/3 of the island has been impacted, all the western end from north to south was under threat. Most of that area will remain closed to the general public for the coming weeks until the fire is fully contained. So much has been lost, so many friends have been affected but the island is a very resilient community it will recover, it will bloom again, and fast! We consider ourselves Islanders, it’s our emotional and spiritual home, and we are registered residents, and have been so for many years. It is heartbreaking for us both to see what has happened, but also heart-warming to see how the community has rallied & come together. The next few days are the start of ‘rebuild and repair’ and they have asked that non-essential travel be deferred. After that the island will be ‘open’ and pretty much everything from Seal Bay in the west to Cape Willoughby in the east and the towns of Emu Bay, Kingscote, American River and our beloved Penneshaw will welcome you with open arms. The island swill only recover, if people go back and visit, play and yes, spend! Below are two links, the first is to the community meeting held this morning in Kingscote, where the Police, Country Fire Service, Council, Emergency Services, Hospital, Recovery groups all addressed the fire. The heartfelt sincerity and community spirit caused us a lot of emotions! The second link is for donations to the RECOVERY FUND If you can, no matter how small an amount, please help! https://www.facebook.com/theislanderKI/videos/472190733673081/ If you do donate to the K.I. Mayoral Recovery Fund you may do so at: BSB 105 094 ACCT 035680540

13.01.2022 Thorn Park by the vines It is with regret we wish to advise you that we have taken the decision to close Thorn Park by the vines for the foreseeable future. As you would know we have been trying to sell Thorn Park for several months. Whilst we have several prospective buyers, in the past weeks they have withdrawn and are holding off selling their own properties until later this year. Between bushfires and Pandemics, it is probably not the best selling season!... Not wanting to get into political arguments, we feel our government is ‘reacting’ and not ‘acting’ fast enough to the current situation and whilst we have had a raft of measures in place for weeks to protect our clients, the only real option is close and self-isolate for a very prolonged period. What the future holds for Thorn Park by the vines we do not know, it’s been our life, our love, and our passion for well over 30 years. Most bookings are secured by a credit card number which we do not activate: however there are some who have either paid in full or have paid deposits. That money is quarantined in a special bank account. We will be in touch to arrange a refund shortly. This has not been any easy decision, but it is the right decision. Stay healthy! Regards David & Michael
