25.01.2022 @designcanberrafestival 2020 launched yesterday - with the usual quality, thought and diversity of installations that we’ve come to expect over the years. We’ve given over part of our gallery space to host 4 other local makers & artists to exhibit in collaboration with some of our new furniture pieces. @jeremylepisto @brian.tunks / @bisonhome @jacquelinebradleyart & @sharehouseproject all have works on display for our ‘At Home’ Exhibition. 24.01.2022 These Japanese Magnolia timber plates are now available in store and online. Designed and made by Kaya Nagaoka, using timber from the MonoMori sustainable forestry project in Gifu Japan.Hand carved, the round "Ho" plate comes in natural unfinished timber, and the Oval plates have been finished with Walnut oil. 23.01.2022 We’ve been working on six Ironbark bench seats for Old Parliament House and they’re finally ready! The recycled Ironbark is sourced from house roof timbers, stained black. The durability of Ironbark makes it great for external decking, cladding and outdoor furniture. They also make a hard wearing bench top and their beautiful colour and grain makes them excellent for furniture.

20.01.2022 Wednesday WIP - This round version of the 1545 table is being made from the very last of our ammonia affected dense browns, recycled from old chicken shed rafters. Its a big one coming in at 1800mm in diameter, but will be securely supported by custom steel work made at Thors Hammer.

19.01.2022 Remember the progress shot of this one, made with chicken coop roof timbers? A 1.8m diameter round table with our 1545 leg design - metal fabricated in house. The heavily featured striations are a result of the ammonia gases from the chicken poo reacting with the timber. Looks great, and we promise it doesnt smell! http://www.thors.com.au/tables

17.01.2022 Walk on an interesting piece of history by laying this floor in your next project - reclaimed from a refit of the brutalist fortress that was UTS Lindfield (now Lindfield Learning Village). Designed by David Turner and built in 1971, it was made in monolithic raw concrete, set into the bush and fitted out with bright green 70s carpet & pink handrails. 15.01.2022 This Blackbutt bench top has been finished with our signature "Sawtooth" look - where we join, then lightly finish the timber before filling the old saw marks with a pigmented bio-resin. When you choose a bench top or table top from Thors - you can pick between Clean Dressed, Rustic Checking, Sawtooth - Filled Flat, Sawtooth - Undulating and Gum Vein finishes. 14.01.2022 Another beautiful floor by Euro Coast Timber Floors finished off this week in a pack of our salvaged Ash flooring. "Full sand, clear epoxy & ebony fill. We distressed the floor with screws, hammers, grinder, wire brush & stain. Then clear coated with 2 coats of osmo poly-x satin." 14.01.2022 These big 250x60 dense hardwood boards [reds, browns & Spotted Gum] are at least 120 years old and being TRIPLE recycled today in the workshop. They were initially milled for the Moore Fields Racing Club around 1900, then re-used in the Fairfield Racecourse Grandstand in 1960s. Once theyve all been de-nailed and cleaned up theyll be ready for their next life as furniture or architectural timbers. Get in touch if youve got any ideas youd like to use them for!

The old timber has been clean dressed but still shows some interesting features with just a light sand to finish, and theres been an amazing effort made to create the concealed doors and subtle handles. 06.01.2022 Dreaming of warmer Canberra days in the Red Centre Garden at the @angbalive National Botanic Gardens. This circular seating was made with stone mason Raine contracted by @gundaroolandscapeandcivil, topped with our wedge ripped ex-factory beams, lightly dressed and wire brushed. The garden has grown up a bit since then, a nice place to visit on a warm day - to feel transported to the sand plains and dunes, desert rivers & breakaway country of the outback.

03.01.2022 A recent "Round Leg" table in recycled Spotted Gum for Thors dad. This one is made at 2 metres long x 88cm wide x 75cm high - featuring the exposed bridle joints at the corners, with the legs interlocked through the joint with a tenon, making a strong but lightweight table. The dense red category is made up of very durable species like Ironbark, Forest Red Gum, Turpentine and Red Mahogany - able to stay stable under the stresses of rainfall & harsh sun. 01.01.2022 This is a very special first bed for a clients son - who wanted to space to store books and teddies. Chris from the design team approached the structure as a bookshelf with bed add on, rather than other way round. This resulted in an affordable design - that is easily set up, and very durable.
