Okay, that was awkward. Just us then. But really, many of us wish we could own a celebrity smile just like Miranda Kerr... Here at YBS HQ we've found the latest and greatest in teeth whitening that will rid you of coffee-stained teeth for good. Four words: Philips Zoom! Advanced Power affordable, quick a...nd pain-free. Beauty writer Yasmin Thomas road tests. The claim: Philips' new advanced LED whitening technology promises to whiten teeth up to eight shades in just 45 minutes. What happens? I was booked in for a lunchtime appointment at The Smile Shop, Darlinghurst and immediately felt welcomed by the pleasant staff and friendly resident dental surgeon, Dr Mark Levi. First, he conducted an initial assessment and took some dental impressions. Then my teeth were prepared for the whitening process and it was straight into the treatment which is approx 3-4 sessions of 15 minutes. Throughout the procedure a whitening gel was applied to my teeth consecutively 4 times for 15 minutes each. The gel is then activated by a special patented blue light which helps speed up the whitening process. The experience might've felt a little daunting had Dr Levi not turned up the music for me and dropped in regularly exclaiming "beautiful!" every few minutes (although laughing did prove difficult). All up, my visit took 1 hour and was extremely safe and pain-free. In rare cases patients may experience some tingling after their treatment but it is only temporary. Take-home tips: For the next 48hrs you must avoid coloured foods (read: beetroot, red wine, coffee, curry, coloured sauces etc) and of course, floss and brush teeth twice daily! Cost: $1000 The verdict: I didn't expect the experience to be as comfortable as it was! I felt virtually no pain and still marvel at the fact such a dramatic (not to mention confidence boosting!) improvement was made over one lunchbreak. No more Photoshop for me.
