23.01.2022 I've been taking a holiday from social media for the last couple of weeks because it's been 'doing my head in'. But I have finally found the words to explain why we need more than "solutions" posts...We need a new way of working and new governance frameworks. https://www.linkedin.com//why-heres-solution-posts-dianne- #tourismmatters #Tourism #visitoreconomies #Governance #postcovid19 #tourismfutures #destinationmanagement #TourismAustralia #TEQ #newnormal #innovation #designthinking #TourismColab

18.01.2022 Recovery requires a multi-pronged approach. Short-term and long-term initiatives. Marketing and community-building. Business ecosystems need to be reestablished. Confidence and hope to be restored. Recasting how we think of the future (not just a projection of the past), climate change, resilience, and what we value should be part of the discussion. This could be very rewarding times...

16.01.2022 The Tourism CoLab is honoured and delighted to PAL up with Binna Burra, one of the most iconic Queensland ecotourism experiences to help in the recovery process! Stay tuned

14.01.2022 Now more than ever design thinking is key in navigating the future of #tourism. Design thinking focuses on delivering #stakeholdercentred outcomes through #collaborative journeys of learning, #empathybuilding, #codesign and #experimentation. Yes, it's important to address immediate challenges, but we also need to design the future of our #visitoreconomies. Design thinking is used in so many areas and industries - transport, industry, policy, social services, health, insurance, technology, retail and planning. It's used in big business and startups with huge success, but it's still not common in #tourismSMEs or #destinations. The Tourism CoLab is offering an introductory course starting 19th August that explores design thinking and how we can leverage and apply it in tourism. SIgn up here for more information. https://buff.ly/2CA0d9X

12.01.2022 Pretty excited to be hosting Anna Pollock - 9th March!

12.01.2022 Tourism - the activity, the sector, the industry, the relationships, the business, the resources and assets on which it is based - is dramatically changing day-by-day at the moment. When I completed my contribution (Chapter 2) to the OECD's flagship document 6 weeks ago, who could have imagined where we would be today. But digitalisation is profoundly important in how we imagine and build the tourism of the future. Recovery and re-envisioning tourism must include digitalisation. #OECD #TourismColab #Digitalisation #tourismtrends #tourismpolicy #futuretourism

11.01.2022 Now is the time to think about a regenerative future for tourism and visitor economies. Bailouts and rescue packages for tourism are being discussed but we need to think carefully about what kind of future we want and what incentives and directions are needed to get us there. Design Thinking has huge potential as a creative thinking, user-centred, action-oriented means of ideating and exploring the future of tourism. Based on 7 drivers of change (metatrends) discussed previously, here are 7 design challenges to think about. #regenerativetourism #tourismcolab #designthinking #TourismFutures #collaborativelearning #tourism #innovation #visitoreconomy

07.01.2022 How do we manage tourism in uncertain times? There is widespread evidence that disruption produces creative and innovative solutions and renewal. But what does this look like for tourism and visitor economies? Join us as Dianne Dredge, founder of The Tourism CoLab and recent associate at Federation University Australia, argues that we need big ideas in tourism, now more than ever. We also need new creative places and spaces not only to discuss but to own those big ideas. More info & book now: http://bit.ly/Big-Global-Tourism-Ideas

07.01.2022 There are five pillars of Queensland's visitor economy, and #BinnaBurra offers three: Natural Encounters; Adventure & Discovery; Lifestyle, Culture and People. It's a special place that transforms every visitor and it's on the way back! Professors Dianne Dredge and Roger Kitching have been appointed Co-chairs of the newly formed Science Advisory Committee to #bringbackbinnaburra. They will foster a flourishing collaborative research landscape, making sure #sciencematters in... the regeneration process. The aims of the science program are: 1) Convey a message to universities and other research bodies that Binna Burra is a 'researcher friendly enterprise and location 2) To provide opportunities for scholars to present their research activities and findings in conjunction with a collaborative industry partner 3) Create some interesting new information for guests who might be in interested in whatever topic is being researched 4) Generate useful knowledge and insights for Binna Burra Lodge to apply for our own in-house planning and operations use 5) To have researchers (individuals and groups) to contribute to revenue on F&B, activities and accommodation at Binna Burra Lodge. 07.01.2022 Last week Commerce Ballarat and Federation University gave the Tourism CoLab the opportunity to share some big ideas in tourism and specific cases where these ideas have been interpreted and put into practice. They included: - regenerative tourism principles and practices - purpose-led tourism that benefits people, places and the environment - integrating social enterprise in tourism - creating constructive collaborative spaces for nurturing innovative ideas ... - unlocking passion projects within your staff and add value to your business - behavioural and physical approaches to visitor management - defining what success really means in tourism and visitor economies - the confidence to develop a creative, experimental and user-centred mindset From our world travels in a workshop, it's pretty clear that finding the magic sauce to create vibrant, flourishing visitor economies lies in nurturing the creative space, confidence and trusting collaborators to think big. It was a privilege to present to Commerce Ballarat and their members - what an amazingly constructive and creative community! #TourismColab #CommerceBallarat #tourism #visitoreconomies #innovation #FedUni

03.01.2022 An inspiring approach from Hawai'i - a collective grassroots approach to #designing #economicfutures and new operating systems that fosters long term economic sustainability. It's underpinned by 4 guiding principles: - stewarding precious limited resources for long term sustainability and regeneration. - privilege to lead is directly dependent on those they serve. - creativity and innovation, be mindful and observant of needs, trends and opportunities and seek new knowledge. ...- be inclusive and embrace the collective. Looking forward to following and learning from this inspiring and courageous journey! #tourismmatters #tourismforpurpose #regenerativetourism #tourismeducationfutures #regenerativebusinesses #meaningfulwork #nexteconomy
