25.01.2022 This is the last week of the North Queensland Ceramic Awards. Make sure to visit us at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery to have a look! Tuesday Friday & Sunday: 10am 1pm. You can also view the exhibition in the virtual tour here> https://bit.ly/3ihN05u Here is a look at the story behind one of the finalists, Elizabeth Tillack, and her artwork, FEATHERED FRIENDS. There are eight hundred and thirty small bird species in Australia. They delight us every day going about their bu...siness in our gardens and the bush. I have used four different sizes and shapes to represent a stylised version of some of these birds. I have hand painted each of the individual designs so no two birds are the same. Cobalt brushwork is painted onto green ware, then raw glazed and fired in an electric kiln to 1100 degrees. Head to Perc Tucker Regional Gallery by 20 September to see this artwork in person! Elizabeth Tillack, FEATHERED FRIENDS 2020, paper clay, painted oxide decoration, raw gazed, electric firing at 1150C fire glaze, multiple parts;140 x 120 x 10 cm, $2000 set or $35 each

Townsville is unique geographically, and sits within an area known as the Dry Tropics. This region relies on the monsoons to replenish its rivers, creeks, and dams. 04.01.2022 In this year's North Queensland Ceramic Awards, the Loloma Jewellers Award, in memory of Betty Jackson of $1,000 has been awarded to Annette Bukovinsky for her artwork FALL. Here is an insight into her artwork: The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) reports that over 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity can be found in forests. The degradation and loss of forests not only threatens the survival of many species but also reduces the essential ecological conditions humanity needs such as clean air, water, soil quality, and climatic regulation. This work explores my concerns for our precious forests and the health of our planet using a medium that is also paradoxically known for its strength and fragility- porcelain.
