12.01.2022 Who knew you could send a postcard from the middle of the ocean? The Great Barrier Reef is the planet’s largest living structure, and it also has its own postbox! How cool right? It is situated on the Agnicourt reef which is 72 kilometers off-shore on the coral sea. Anyone who sends a letter or a postcard from here must use the special Great Barrier Reef stamp!

10.01.2022 Before I get in to what we have been up to this week, we have some more exciting news.. We have a brand new charter destination LAUNCHING TODAY! Keep your eyes peeled and your phones handy to book this one in, as it's going to be a sell-out. Last week I visited both our Mackay and Rockhampton stores. It's fantastic to see our airports with people in them travelling, it brings back a sense of normality as we get on with our lives (all be it with a mask on). I think this will... be the norm moving forward. Similar to changes after September 11th in terms of security & airport procedures, we now just have to be more hygienic. I think this can only be a positive change as these new hygiene protocols will benefit us when we eventually transition into long haul travel, as you will have much less of a chance of catching a flu or other illness on the flight. While it's great to see airlines taking off, unfortunately the same can not be said for our cruise lines. I realise that cruising is where we learned as a community how this virus can spread so quickly, but we haven't stopped to consider how the cruise lines may have adapted. The government's recent decision to suspend cruising for another three months proves this. Cruise lines have been hit the hardest in the tourism industry during this pandemic and like any good businesses they have adapted. The Covid-19 policies and procedures they have now adopted are like no other industry. They have invested hundreds of thousands, if not millions in testing technology so they can actively make sure people don't have Covid-19 on board. All passengers need a Covid-19 test & doctors certificate 72 hours prior to boarding and will now be tested during and after the cruise. They also now have designated area's of cabins on the cruise for people to self isolate. All of this is in place to benefit future customers when cruising resumes, yet the government has still suspended their operations. The problem with this line of thinking from our government is that we are doing damage to the Australian cruise industry that will either take years to recover or won't recover at all. The economic benefits we receive from this industry are huge, not to mention a lot of people prefer to travel this way. Europe and America are starting their cruise seasons again with the pent up demand meaning they are selling out up to 2024/2025. If I were these cruise lines I'd be staying in these regions, as Australia is not only a smaller commercial benefit but the most difficult to deal with as well. We have to start planning to make these cruises in Australia work rather than a blanket "not right now" approach, before we lose international cruise lines from Australia.
