25.01.2022 Last week our 2021 Seniors celebrated and focussed on the year ahead with their Senior Camp activities at Lake Tinaroo. Senior camp now takes place in the last week of Year 11. In keeping with Tbay tradition over the decades, the Senior Students work together to plan and paint their senior banners for 2021.... Group activites such as mountain bike riding, obstacle courses, canoeing and screen printing of uniquely designed t-shirts are just some of the team building excitement and fun that takes place. #trinitybayshs #tbayshs #qldeducation #qldstateschools #tbay #tbaycairns #tbshs #tbshscairns #futurethinkers #futureready #21stcenturyskills #21Cskills #tbayseniors2021 #tbshsseniors2021 #seniors2021 #TwhatTbay #laketinaroo

17.01.2022 WINNER - PAEA Award WINNER - Ergon Energy Encouragement Award WINNER - CELL Art Space Award Congratulations to Jayden in Year 12 whose work was recognised with three different judging panels in last week’s ENERGY Art Exhibition. Not only has Jayden enjoyed a trifecta of recognition for his beautifully intricate work titled Permanent, he is also one of our school’s Creative Generations Awards for Excellence in Art Nominations. This state wide award program is due... to announce it’s award winners in two weeks time. Jayden attended the LIVE STREAM launch of the ENERGY exhibition and spoke on camera with his art teacher Mrs Nina Jackman and MC Fiona Johnson about the techniques that he used to produce this fragile and highly detailed series of sculptures made from copper wire twisted in a biro. The different species of trees from various gauges and types of copper wire are secured in Petri dishes with resin and placed in their own eco-system under a glass dome. The works demonstrate Jayden’s sheer tenacity to peruse an idea, his attention to detail and his skill and artistry to create something so beautiful that speaks about the fragility of the world heritage ecosystems that we all need to be guardians of. Jayden’s work and the incredible work of another 121 students from schools all over FNQ can be viewed at the TANKS Art Centre in Collins Avenue in Edgehill. The exhibition is open 7 days a week for both weeks of the school holidays. Take the time to have a wander through and see this work and the innovative and creative responses by other young creatives - you won't believe the talent and Jayden’s work is evidence of this! DON’T FORGET - While you are at the Tanks visiting the exhibition, place your voting slip in the perspex voting box for the ERGON people’s choice award. Both the student with the most number of people’s choice votes and a random draw from nominations for this art work will receive prizes! 10.01.2022 WINNER - CELL Art Space Award Congratulations to Allan in Year 11 whose work was awarded a CELL Art Space Award in the annual ENERGY Art Exhibition. Allan’s work titled Underbelly is a combination of photographic screen printing and drawing on found materials. Allan is trying to communicate a complex message in his work - My work tries to capture my conflicting relationship with Rusty’s Markets. As a son of a stallholder who has worked there for a long time, the site... is both a place of work and income to me where I must meet my father’s high expectations and a place where I genuinely do enjoy being able to meet and interact with people and earn money for myself. I sourced waxed fruit boxes from my father’s stall and created stencils of the graffiti that features on the walls behind the markets in it’s ‘underbelly’ which members of the public do not see. I screenprinted myself within this hectic graffiti scrawled backdrop depicting my sometimes reluctant existence within the site. This work along with the other works we have been featuring demonstrate the way students at Trinity Bay work in highly conceptual ways using diverse materials and technology to communicate their artistic intent. We are proud of the critical thinking and problem solving that our Visual Arts programs skill students with. His work and the incredible work of another 121 students from schools all over FNQ can be viewed at the TANKS Art Centre in Collins Avenue in Edgehill. The exhibition is open 7 days a week for both weeks of the school holidays. 01.01.2022 WINNER - TAFE Banggu Minjaany Indigenous Student Artist Award WINNER - Ergon Energy Award WINNER - Northsite Contemporary Arts Encouragement Award Congratulations to Raymond in Year 11 whose work was awarded the TAFE Indigenous Student Artist Award at the ENERGY Art Exhibition. This award is a prestigious one and only presented to one student each year. Raymond’s award for his work titled Breakout" was presented to him last Tuesday by Lynelle Flinders from TAFE and... she was blown away by the maturity and technical skill of this work that uses hand painted stencilling and vinyl lettering to communicate a powerful dual edged meaning. The work also was awarded an Ergon Energy Award and caught the attention of the director of Northsite Contemporary Art Ashleigh Campbell who is keen to support Raymond connecting with local artist Darren Blackman who Raymond researched in the development of his work. Raymond was interviewed during the LIVE STREAM of the launch of ENERGY and spoke about how his work takes the language of the COVID era and parallels the language with the way colonialisation continues to impact silently and almost imperceptibly (asymptomatically) in Australian culture. We look forward to watching Raymond develop his arts practice with the mentorship of local arts institutions like TAFE and Northsite there to support him. Raymond’s work and the incredible work of another 121 students from schools all over FNQ can be viewed at the TANKS Art Centre in Collins Avenue in Edgehill. The exhibition is open 7 days a week for both weeks of the school holidays. Take the time to have a wander through and see this work and the innovative and creative responses by other young creatives - you won't believe the talent and Raymond's work is evidence of this!
