24.01.2022 Thank you Oasis Ball & Campaign Brief Awards for all you do for us. We can’t do what we do without the generosity and support you give us.

24.01.2022 VOTE NOW!!! IDEAS is a new initiative from the Salvos and is a place where you can you collaboratively suggest new and innovative ideas that will help us transform our communities. Not only that, you can vote for the ideas you like best and want to see in your community! Check out The Longest Shortcut to Adulthood, an idea from our very own Yuri DAmico!... In response to the increasing demographic of children and young people in care of the State and the inadequate systemic support in the leaving care process, TSS propose to take young people on a self-directed journey of experiential learning on a road trip from Perth to Cairns across The Longest Shortcut, a symbolic journey representing a young persons leaving care experience, signifying the longest shortcut from care to adulthood. In a pioneering effort to strengthen the Armys voice on youth homelessness highlighting young people experience in care, TSS would like to travel across the Longest Shortcut, giving voices to young people who are in currently in care or have been in care and giving them the possibility to tell what their care experience was like and their journey towards adulthood. 24.01.2022 Crossroads Wests - Transitional Support Service Team along with clients attended the NAIDOC Ashfield Family Day event hosted by the Town of Bassendean . The day exposed TSS to the beauty and importance of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, as well as allowed several of our clients whom identify as ATSI to connect and celebrate. The event hosted several stalls representing local and national agencies in the field of education, health and employment. We watc...hed the Spirit and Welcome dances, listened to stories, laughed with others, learnt about culture and of course tasted the delicious kangaroo stew and damper. Most importantly, we celebrated together as one the longest living cultures on Earth. Crossroads West would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we stand on today, the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation, pay our respects to the Elders, past, present and emerging. The TSS Team felt so blessed and welcomed in sharing this amazing day! #NAIDOC2019 #VoiceTreatyTruth #Equality #Inclusion

22.01.2022 Let me introduce you to Trish... "When I was 15yrs old I met a Youth Worker through The Salvation Army and it was life changing. Finally, someone encouraged me and believed in me when no one else would - not even myself. He gave me the hope that I could be a better person, that the bad experiences I had didnt have to define me or my future. This gave me the courage and determination to be a better person and do something better with my life. Hope. Hope is huge. So many young... people dont have any. This is why I became a Youth Worker. I want to work with young people so that I can hope for them until they can find the hope within themselves." Trish has been a valuable member of The Salvation Army Crossroads West team for the past 3 yrs. As a Mobile Youth Worker her role involves supporting young people between the ages of 15 - 25 who are disadvantaged and marginalised. What exactly does this involve? Eligibility assessments, establishing and monitoring case management plans for each clients individual needs, advocacy for young people, - whether it be ensuring they get access to the activities and support outlined in their plan, liaising on their behalf with external agencies like Housing Authority, Centrelink, Legal Services, Mental Health Services and much much more - and this is just the tip of iceberg! So...why do it? "Seeing the changes in young people through their involvement with our programme is beyond fulfilling. Being their to support them through the darkest moments of their life and helping them see their potential - that they CAN have a better future and achieve what they set their minds to - its an incredible journey. At times, Im their ears when no-one else will listen, a shoulder to cry on when theyve nobody else to turn to, but most importantly Im a voice of support, encouragement and hope. A voice that tells them I believe in you and you can achieve your dreams." "Its truly a privilege to have a front row seat and see young people achieve something they never thought possible." #Support #ChangingLives #MakingADifference #YoungLivesMatter

20.01.2022 @YourHelpWA is seeking support to help increase efforts to secure sustainable State Government funding for the community services sector to meet the growing demand. As many of you will know, the sector has been working with the State and Federal Governments to gain funding to meet the obligations of the Equal Remuneration Order (ERO), which is designed to deliver pay equity for people (like us) employed by not-for-profit service providers. The rate and extent to which our ser...vices are funded by the State Government has been lean at best, and is falling further and further behind what can be considered viable for many programs and organisations. Negotiations have been progressing with the State Government - but too slowly given this urgency and the need for our services in the community. As a result, the sector coalition decided to launch the campaign to seek public support and send a clear message to Premier Mark McGowan that adequate sector funding is urgently needed to support vulnerable and at risk people in our community. What you can do to help? LIKE, FOLLOW & SHARE the Your Help WA Facebook page and encourage your colleagues, friends and family to do the same! #YourHelpWA #Support #Community

20.01.2022 "What I aim for my book to achieve is for anyone who is in similar shoes to be able to find console in my writings and be able to recognise that they are not alone, that there IS support out there, dont be afraid to reach out." This is Blakes story, a raw and touching story of a young man who went down a dark path but found the help and strength he needed to get back on the right track and use the pain and heartache he suffered as a way to help others. "My name is Blake Edw...ard and I have written, edited and self published my first book Desolation Diaries with the first release being on July 13 2019. I was born on March 2000 and swiftly placed into the care of DCP as both of my parents were unfit to look after me due to their drug and alcohol abuse and subsequent mental health issues. My father committed suicide when I was 2, I was also in foster homes until I was 2. I lived with my Nan for 16 years before my depression and drug abuse lead to me going into detox and then a transition home at Crossroads West to help aid my recovery. My book was mostly written in 2018, where I had 4 suicide attempts and spent 6 months straight on a cocktail of drugs. I have been severely depressed for over a decade now and writing was my only escape besides drugs and alcohol. Desolation Diaries is years of pain gathered into 230 pages. My book promotes the fact that there is light at the end of the tunnel... even though it may not seem that way. I have kept it handwritten because I feel it keeps it personal as it is my story of pain and perseverance. I want to be able to connect with the viewer and distinguish myself from other authors. It also promotes others to follow a path of creativity. I kept my depression and suicide idealisation to myself for a long time and didnt receive help until as of late. My book offers insight to what it is like to have depression and constant suicidal thoughts, the rate of suicide is rising, the rate of depression is rising, what I am trying to do with my book is give a voice to those who didnt get the opportunity to. Everyone faces hardship, everyone has experienced a degree of pain, some more than others. If theres one thing I want for the viewer to take from my book its that you never know what someone is going through behind closed doors. Depression and suicide are glamorised by the media and Hollywood, this is my real, raw account, this is my story, this is the beginning of Fenrirs Revenge." Copies of Desolation Diaries are available at Planet Books! **For privacy reasons there are no pictures of Blakes face** #MakingADifference #NeverTooLate #Support

18.01.2022 Today is International Youth Day 2019! This years theme of Transforming Education highlights efforts to make education inclusive and accessible for all youth, including efforts by youth themselves. This years International Youth Day will examine how Governments, young people, and youth-led and youth-focused organisations, as well as other stakeholders, are transforming education so that it becomes a powerful tool to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.... Thats why our work, and the work of all the organisations around the world like ourselves, is crucial in making an impact and difference in the lives of the young people we serve, but, more importantly - its the support of the community and everyday people like yourselves that allows us to make a difference. 16.01.2022 Thank you Oasis Ball & Campaign Brief Awards for all you do for us. We cant do what we do without the generosity and support you give us.

15.01.2022 Child abuse is one of Australias most significant social problems. Last year over 32,000 children were proven to have been abused and neglected. The term child abuse includes physical psychological, sexual, neglect and exposure to family violence. Child abuse is rarely a one off incident and is ALWAYS harmful. Tens of thousands of children each year are psychologically and/or physically harmed each year or die from the impact of child abuse and neglect. Far to often that d...amage lasts a lifetime. Child abuse is known to increase risks of substance abuse, crime, homelessness, poor physical health, educational failure, poor employability prospects, depression and suicide. Given the size of of the problem, child abuse and neglect represents one of the greatest barriers and threats to the well being of Australian children, young people, and the next generation of children and adults. Thats why our work and your support is critical. Without you, organisations like ourselves cant help the thousands of disadvantaged young Australians who so desperately need our help and care. #NationalChildProtectionWeek #MakingADifference #Support #YoungLivesMatter #ForABetterFuture

13.01.2022 Thanks for the shout out Oasis Ball & Campaign Brief Awards! Look forward to seeing you again and seeing what amazing event you have in store this year!! Cant thank you and your supporters enough for all you do for us

13.01.2022 Its ok to ask for help!

11.01.2022 We will remember them.

11.01.2022 Did you know 1 in 6 young Australians aged between 15-24 are living in poverty? When thinking about young people experiencing homelessness we often hear the terms "street kids" or "runaways" but this is not the reality. Some of the most common reasons for young people experiencing homelessness are housing-crisis, family and domestic violence and relationship/family breakdown. Finding these young people and getting them the help they need early on is critical in breaking the c...ycle. Research shows experiencing homelessness at such a young age has a critical impact on their future as it affects their education, social skills, ability to find and sustain a job and more often than not leads them down a path of drug and alcohol abuse. Thats why our work is so important to us. We, along with many other Youth Homelessness Services such as Anglicare WAs YES! Housing, Mission Australia Youthbeat, Youth Focus, Vinnies WA Passages Youth Engagement Hub - just to name a few - make it our mission to to find these at risk youths and give them the encouragement, support, care and critical life skills they need to make a better future for themselves and the chance at the life they deserve. #HW2019 #MakingADifference #ChangingLives #Support

We are extraordinarily humbled that next year we celebrate 25 years of partnership between Crossroads West and the media/marketing industry - an incredible connection that despite the constant change in the corporate industry, we have a wonderful relationship that has nurtured and grown stronger and stronger with each passing ye...ar. 03.01.2022 Our Crossroads team at Kalgoorlie-Boulder and their residents have been having a wonderful time celebrating NAIDOC Week 2019! They have been making the most of all the activities that are happening around the community everyday. So far they have cooked a yummy brekky of bacon and egg burgers out the front of the local Court House for the people of the community. Theyve walked the parade and then proceeded to Kingsbury Park which was alive with activities such as cultural dan...ces, drum beat, face painting, creating tote bags, obstacle courses - the list goes on! All the residents at Crossroads got tickets for the fantastic film festival being held every night this week which includes films such as Sweet Country, Charlies Country and the amazing short films Yulubidyi and Undiscovered Country. Needless to say they are thoroughly enjoying every second of it and are looking forward to the rest of the weeks activities as they immerse themselves and relish the opportunity to be a part of this fantastic culture! #NAIDOC2019 #VoiceTreatyTruth #Culture #Equality #Support
