24.01.2022 Screenworks and Screen Queensland are inviting all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders with an interest in screen stories and filmmaking to come along to our information evening to find out more how they can receive free training as part of the Make It In FNQ: Creating Screen Stories initiative. Make It In FNQ: Creating Screen Stories is a free, six-month program of Indigenous-led storytelling and concept development workshops, open to emerging FNQ Aboriginal and Torres ...Strait Islander participants. Come along to find out more about the program. You’ll hear from Douglas Watkin (Content Director, Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Program, Screen Queensland) and independent film producer Dena Curtis of Inkey Media and actor, writer, producer and director Aaron Fa’Aoso of Cairns based production company Lone Star and be able to ask them questions and pass on your suggestions. 22.01.2022 | Each year the films submitted to Understory are judged by an independent panel of industry professionals. 2020 sees yet another outstanding jury to assess the films, and today we're profiling . . Jas Shennan trained in fine art and stage design. After graduating from the London Film School, he worked at the BBC on documentaries and dramas, before emigrating to Australia. ... Jas has worked extensively as a director, producer, cameraman and editor on various TV documentaries, dramas, reality shows and in the corporate arena. He believes that after nearly 50 years of being continuously involved in television production, it’s time for him to pass on his broad knowledge of storytelling to the next generation of digital media artists.

08.01.2022 Wowsers! Screen Queensland together with Screenworks are delivering two initiatives in FNQ, partnering with NITV and ABC Australia! Both programs aim to create career-changing opportunities for the local filmmaking industry in FNQ, and lead to more local stories and productions happening in the region. ... : This initiative will offer $4,000 of funding to three FNQ filmmaking teams to produce short films about significant personalities in the region. Each selected team will work closely with a mentoring producer from the ABC to refine their shooting scripts, production planning, rough cuts and final edits. Applications for Authentic open 19th October. : Led by Queensland-based film producer Dena Curtis of Inkey Media, this program is a free, six-month program of Indigenous storytelling and concept development workshops, open to emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants. In 2020 Council has again engaged an exemplary jury to assess the films, and over the next few weeks, we will tell you a little about each judge, kicking off with . With a professional career spanning a number of disciplines including filmmaking, academia and paediatric intensive care, Dr Jan Cattoni has managed to weave these div...erse disciplines into a kind of hybrid career in ethical filmmaking, often working with vulnerable individuals and marginalised communities. Jan’s broadcast credits as a writer and director of short drama, documentary and factual series, include work for ABC Australia, SBS Australia and RTÉ (Ireland). After moving back to FNQ a decade ago Jan has worked in many remote locations producing content and mentoring emerging Indigenous directors. In this environment, Jan has been able to explore participative filmmaking, community scripting and improvisation, and as a result, produced a large amount of broadcast & commissioned content which has attracted numerous awards. Jan has a Doctorate of Visual Arts from Griffith Film School and currently teaches Digital Media at CQUniversity Cairns. Thank you for being part of our esteemed judging panel, Jan

The AUTHENTIC program will support FNQ filmmakers to profile local personalities in short documentaries for ABC Online exhibition. Selected filmmakers will be provided with a grant of $4,000 and will work closely with an appointed local ABC Producer to develop their idea before filming and exhibition on ABC online platforms.... Today we bring you the fourth and final profile, highlighting Australian film director/writer/producer . Rolf attended the Australian Film and Television School, (aka AFTRS), graduating in 1980. ... Since then he has directed fourteen (yes, you read that correctly ) feature films, writing ten of them and co-writing another three. He also generally produces the films he directs. Works include (Jury Prize, Un Certain Regard, Cannes Film Festival 2006 and Australia’s Best Foreign Language Academy Award nomination) and (both in Official Competition, Cannes Film Festival) ’ (Competition, Berlin Film Festival) (Special Jury Prize and four other prizes, Venice Film Festival) The third of Rolf’s collaborations with renowned Aboriginal actor David Gulpilil, ’ , won Best Actor in Un Certain Regard at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival and was Australia’s nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2014 Academy Awards. As a practitioner, Molly makes documentaries and websites, including the feature documentaries and (both part of the Country Suite of projects attached to ’ ), and the multi-award winning . Molly's current work is the feature documentary, . With an MA in Commercial Law and an MA in Media Arts and Production, Molly also has extensive management and consultancy experience including with the NT, SA and NSW state governments, AFTRS, the AFC and Film Australia. Other roles have included General Manager with Beyond Online and working at the ABC producing, designing and creating content and policy across platforms. Molly has taught as an adjunct professor and is a published industry commentator/broadcaster. With a career as diverse and accomplished as Molly's, we are undoubtedly lucky to have secured her for our judging panel - thank you, Molly!
