24.01.2022 Fabulous research happening by the Autism research team.

22.01.2022 Temple Grandin is such an inspiration. On Fathers Day her story is a good reminder of the important role a parent has in the life of their child, particularly those that cant advocate for themselves. Thank you to all parents I have crossed paths with, for their continued belief that anything is possible and the persistence to make it happen.

21.01.2022 Thought for the weekend.

21.01.2022 This is definitely me today.

20.01.2022 I find Term 3 is when our little one's emotions are at their peak. - Curriculum is in full force - They are expected to know what to do - Structure and routine are juggled to fit more in - Fatigue sets in... Show compassion and remember that 'behaviour' is often a form of communication. Think back to a time when things worked well and implement the strategies that we know worked then. Communicate, build relationships, engage our children, create structure and routine and remember the importance of down time.

20.01.2022 As the end of year approaches this is a nice number revision idea for our younger kiddies. The added fine motor benefits, get my tick of approval.

20.01.2022 Such great initiatives happening around us.

20.01.2022 At this time of year it is common for anxiety to escalate. Concerts, award nights and extra school and social activities have started, transitions from one school year to another are well underway and the excitement of Christmas has hit. Take a moment to consider the behaviours your child is displaying and query what they are really trying to communicate. - Do we need to add more structure into the day? - Is more explanation or visual support required to understand impending change? - Does the demand level in one area of life need to be reduced to accomodate for increased demands in another?

18.01.2022 To all my beautiful followers, I haven't posted on here for a while, as we packed up our life in the Pilbara and travelled across the country to Brisbane. We are finally settled in our new home in The Gap, and it is time for Up to the Sky to re-establish in this beautiful neighbourhood. While it was sad to leave the wonderful families of the Pilbara, I take pleasure in reminiscing of all the time I enjoyed with your families and the milestones that your children achieved. ...It was a privilege sharing the fun, laughter and occasional tear with you. Hopefully I can share as much joy with the new families I am working with. For those who I am no longer near, please remember I am still available by phone and email should you need anything, even just a chat. For the new families that chose to share their children's journey with me, I look forward to getting to know you. Up to the Sky has a new email and website that you are welcome to check out at any stage. [email protected] www.uptotheskyot.com.au Take care and keep reaching new heights. Kim

16.01.2022 Looking forward to watching this tonight.

16.01.2022 Nothing wrong with any of these, if it keeps kids focused. #sensorykids

15.01.2022 As a parent we can often focus so hard on helping our little ones achieve all the successes in life, that we forget to check in on ourselves. Travelling this path with a child with special abilities and strengths can be challenging. From school meetings, to medical appointments and everything in between, it can be stressful and demanding. Take some time today, and everyday, to ask, are you ok?... Lets talk!

15.01.2022 What a way to start the work day.

15.01.2022 Fantastic news!

14.01.2022 Early Christmas present you say??? Nope, this is what my ten year old is wearing for Halloween.

14.01.2022 Now this may appear funny, but what a great way to practice this skill. #toilettraining #innovation

12.01.2022 I have had the privilege of entering the lives of some of the most amazing children with autism and I think this letter would hold true for so many.

11.01.2022 Everyday I preach strength based practices. Lets put the spotlight on the skills and interests of an individual, work around the challenges and just see the amazing outcomes. This is a must see!... #mindblown #strengthbasedpractices #differentnotless

11.01.2022 Truely beautiful. Inclusion doesnt have to be about adapting the world to match the person with special abilities, it can be about the rest of us stepping out side of the box. Lets break down the fences!

10.01.2022 October is breast cancer awareness month and Up to the Sky is a proud sponsor of the Paraburdoo Pink Ribbon Events. With 1 in 14 Australians diagnosed with breast cancer every year, the fundraising efforts of small towns like ours and the subsequent research and intervention that results, is more important than ever. If you would like to donate or participate in the Paraburdoo Pink Ribbon Events, then check out Pink Ribbon Paraburdoo for all the info.

09.01.2022 Collaboration is key.

09.01.2022 Im often asked, what is the number one tip you would give to help a child?. Well this is it! Life can be busy, but it is so important to slow down and take the time to build connections.

09.01.2022 Love this visual schedule.

07.01.2022 Positive behaviour support is such a big component of education and health care these days. Unless we discover the root cause of the behaviour, just like putting a bandaid on a wound, we will only be treating the symptom.

07.01.2022 The end result. #shethinksoutsidethebox #orshouldisayinthebox

06.01.2022 Special interests can so easily be mistaken as obsessions or weaknesses. However, if we nurture these differences, more often than not they can turn into careers, vocations, and inspire brilliance.

05.01.2022 Up to the Sky is proud to be supporting this fabulous initiative. Kim will be present to support Santa in making a calm and memorable experience for you and your little ones.... Dont forget to register your interest.

05.01.2022 Acceptance is grand! Do you know a #50?

04.01.2022 As Term 3 comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on what an occupational therapist does. I think about the fun and interesting things that your children expose me to and the milestones that are achieved along the way. And, Yes..... I do have the coolest job in the world! This week alone I have cooked, played board games, listened, drawn, gardened and even ridden buses. ... #adventuresofanoccupationaltherapist

03.01.2022 Ive discussed the importance of handwriting with quite a few people over the past couple of weeks. This is an interesting read.
