21.01.2022 August is weed month. The month to get on top of all your weeds before Spring comes. Every September your winter weeds will go to seed as a survival mechanism and re- produce in 5-10x larger quantities next year. My favourite combo for buffalo, and couch lawns is Bow and Arrow and winter grass killer. Www.vanderlands.com.au If your on kikuyu, Rye grass or Fescue I would recommend just using the Bow and Arrow. These products are to be sprayed through a ...calibriated sprayer using a flat fan Nozzle. The reason for this is you need to hit the correct product rates to ensure a 99% successful kill. The flat fan nozzle helps lower the water rate and also gives the product a much better chance at sticking to the leaf because of its micro droplet size. 21.01.2022 Re- turfing is instant. You get to choose a new grass type, re- level the yard and start fresh with minimal weeds Rejuvenating and existing lawn back to good health is a much slower process depending on its condition. How ever this is super cost effective. From experience if you have a beaten couch or kikuyu lawn ( including Qld blue ) it may be worth bringing it back to life with some fertiliser, wetting agent, a top dress and maybe a de- thatch. But on the other hand if i...t’s old buffalo I would re- turf it as buffalo tends to be hard to bring back from the dead. This year I’m sure your left with worn areas from winter and the key to bringing them back is to eliminate any people walking on them, fertilise them weekly and give them some soil to run in to. All this happens in October. But do note warm season grasses such as Kikuyu, Couch and Buffalo will actively only grow when soil the temperatures reach back above 15 degrees and higher. 19.01.2022 This is a common problem in buffalo lawns and left untreated will eventually take over your buffalo lawn. It is always there but in summer it is hard to see because both grasses are a very similar shade green. How ever in winter (now) both grasses go dormant and they are a different colour. This is the time to strike. Hand weeding is an option but there is also a chemical that I have had great results with. 18.01.2022 It’s green, it’s lush, it’s Rye grass. This once lush buffalo/ couch lawn was hammered by floods, then workers and trades prior to winter. With no hesitation @clint.harris.cea jumped onto the Rye grass to give his son a yard to play on and save the mud and dirt coming into his house over the remaining cooler months. 16.01.2022 It top dressing time. This is a great way to reduce Matt and thatch, eliminate undulations, improve drainage and promote the grass to grow laterally. 15.01.2022 In new lawns, thatchy lawns and high traffic areas high winds will certainly yellow off the leaf and cause dry patch very quick. To minimise the damage water the lawn at least twice a week through this time of the year. I am finding that those on the winter foliar products have a stronger grass structure and are doing much better then others. Knowing couch goes dormant in winter I wanted to give this beauty of a property some colour over winter so I over sowed with Rye grass. Rye grass will continue to thrive over winter as it is a cool season grass. I will then grow it out in September and transition the Tiff Tuff back to full strength for summer 2020. 12.01.2022 Panic veldgrass. The name says it all. A bloody nightmare of a weed that can not be killed with anything that is safe to use on your grass also. This weed will need to be removed by hand. Do this before spring and you may get to it before it starts seeding and producing more plants. 12.01.2022 It can be done though when you cut costs with products you will have to increase your effort on getting all the little things right and also understand it will be a much much slower process. Firstly every lawn needs a granular fertiliser in spring time to recover from its 5 months or so of dormancy. Pro turf is the only product I’d recommend and this is because the technology behind the product ensures you are getting what you pay for . If you...r short on cash just invest in the proturf. All lawns need water and you don’t need a wetting agent how ever do use one and you can be sure to reduce your water usage, increase nutrient retention and have your grass still alive and healthy on a hot summers day. Seaweed organics. This also is a nice to have but without the promotion of new roots and the correct care for the existing roots your grass will struggle to promote new growth. 5 easy ways to improve your chances. 1. Rope off all weak areas to help with recovery. 2. Water every day. 3. 06.01.2022 To get the best out of your turf water 3-4 times a day for 15mins. Every week over the first 4 weeks drop a water per day and increase the time of watering. The key is to keep the roots moist. Next give the new lawn a boost with a foliar fertiliser. New turf has plenty of leaf and no roots so it’s important to use a fertiliser applied to the leaf so it absorbs it rather then gets missed by a granular fertiliser that only works if roots are present. 05.01.2022 To get the best out of your lawn you should do a mini renovation in spring time each year. This renovation is always 2 weeks post the October long wknd fertiliser. The renovation should include lowering the height of cut down 2-3 notches on your mower and a topdress. This will promote healthy new growth, minimise undulations, reduce Matt and thatch, increase water infiltration and improve your soil profile. Once you have done the topdress bring the height up one notch on the ...mower so it is no longer scalpy after you cut it and hold that height for the months over summer. It’s a parents best baby sitter and can be a fathers/ Mums proudest home DIY achievement. This lawn is my best mates lawn that has been not used for the past 10 years ( because it was to wet) With a kid on the way this was an urgent priority for him to get sorted. Problem solved with only my favourite job of growing the grass... left to do. I can finally picture the football being kicked around here in the future Mainline was 49m, then 13 laterals across grade totalling another 47m. 04.01.2022 Take it back 20 years to when I was 12 years old in transition from primary school to high school and you would of come across me with dads mower doing door knocks in Bateau Bay looking to make some some money. ( no idea what I was saving for but I was determined) I did this all summer along with picking up golf balls at the driving range. Yesterday’s turf Job was at my first ever customer 20 years ago back then and in a different location his lawn had thistles ( the spik...y weed ) taller then me and he laughed his arse off whilst having a beer and watching me try mow through them.
